I have been camping dozens of time with wife and kids, and without a doubt, this was the most awful campground we have ever visited. I will never go back, and I would advise anyone considering this place to look elsewhere.||||Firstly, they don't tell you when you make the reservation that the main access road is only open for one hour per day in the morning (for departures) and one hour in the late afternoon (for arrivals). If you don't arrive within that one hour window, you are screwed. In my case, we hit traffic on I-80 and arrived at 5:30 pm. The staff would not let us use the access road. They offered me a wagon and told me I would have to use the wagon to bring all of my family's camping equipment to our tent site, one tiny wagonful at a time, nearly a mile from the main parking lot. I was alone with my two small children, but the staff had no sympathy for me. After four round trips with the wagon, and with the kids crying and upset because they had to follow behind me each time, I finally got everything back to the campsite. I had to pitch the tent and start dinner and the campfire in the dark. It was hardly a fun family adventure. My kids hated it and wanted to leave the next morning.||||Adding insult to injury, as other reviewers have pointed out, the staff at this place are unprofessional and unhelpful, and frankly a few are downright scary. Some of the young men who maintain the grounds don't seem like they have much experience interacting with other humans. One said, "Come back later. I'm busy" when I asked about where I could get fire wood. Another yelled at me to "get away from there" when apparently I walked too close to his parked pick-up trip while going to the parking lot. They all seemed very irritable - like they just wanted to be left alone. ||||Just to clarify, the AMC volunteers who came in on Saturday were friendly and helpful. The regular staff of the Mohican Center, however, were just the opposite. They make this place not worth the visit.||||My advice - don't waste any time on this poorly managed place with a rude and unhelpful staff. It's definitely not a good option for family camping. There are plenty of better campgrounds in the...
Read moreI booked this for a friend and myself for the evening after a day at the Camp Crystal Lake Friday 13th set tour to fit in with the theme.||||Trust me - the kids in the movie had a better time.||||We knew we had to bring our own towel and bedding and that the toilets and showera were standard campsite 'shared'but there was no indication that our "cabin" would:||||1. Be part of a duplex with a poorly fitting connecting door.||2. Have a table but no chairs.||3. Have a coffee maker and microwave but no cups or plates or cutlery or no way of washing up.||4. Have no curtain or blind on the (75% clear glazed) door.||5. Be a half mile walk from the car park on a stony track (I am disabled). There was a sign stating words to the effect "Access may be allowed in specific circumstances".||||The shared bathrooms consisted of two showers, two cubicles, one sink and one urinal for all male guests. There were no paper towels apart from the ones with blood on them in the bin.||||By 7pm one toilet was blocked and one shower was filthy. They stayed this way until we left the next morning.||||After checking in and being unimpressed we went to reception and noted the lack of cutlery and plates etc. We were begrudgingly handed disposable versions of all (not great for an eco-styled business). ||||We were told that it was known there was no curtain and it was "on the list" to be fixed but no one had minded before. ||||They seemed surprised we were annoyed there were no chairs.||||I had to virtually threaten a lawsuit to be allowed to park closer to the cabin - despite there being two cars parked outside our cabin already. Being disabled didn't seem to the the right circumstances to normally park nearer.||||Whilst in reception we also noticed that there were two men in the waiting area who had been there when we checked in half an hour earlier. One of them had injured his ankle and they need a cab to their car. The staff wouldn't help them so we drove them in our hire car.||||If it had been cheap we would have made allowances. But it cost more than the suite we had in a 4* hotel in DC the night before...||||Too much money, not enough facilities, disinterested staff.||||Lovely...
Read moreThis was a first time camping visit for my wife and I and we instantly said we would be back. I grew up in New Jersey and did not know there was this level of wilderness. We saw a lot of bear prints so you need to be really careful to make sure you have everything needed in the bear box including things like toothpaste. Each site has its own bear box so it is convenient. We wish we could have spent more time here to do all the hikes in the area. Really pretty in the campground and the surrounding area. Bathrooms were good for a rugged campground, but they had $5 showers at the camp store if you want a better one. We had no phone service, but there is decent wifi at the camp store.||The staff was really friendly the whole time. The campground is miles from anything else and the road is a bit rocky and rough. The day we were leaving, we realized a car tire had gone flat, but it turned out to be a tiny metal thing. When we asked at the store where to go to get it fixed, Levi, the assistant manager said he would just lead us into town to go to a good place. After getting our spare on, the drive out was about 20 minutes. Levi not only guided us to A Tech Automotive, but went in and asked the employee if they could squeeze us in. He said they were swamped, but still they patched our tire and we were on our way in about 20 minutes. This could have ruined our day if Levi had not done this for us.||We...
