Stopped here on our way from FL to MN in our Class-A motorhome. This is a very rustic campground, with power but no water or sewer. That part’s OK with us, but this place really needs some undergrowth cleaned up. (The campsites are very tight as everything in between is so unkept). The park itself has awesome biking trails, which is why we picked it, but that’s where the good part ends. We had reservations for 3 nights. On our 1st night, about 10:00 at night, a pickup with a tent-topper pulled in next to us, and a conversion van pulled in across from us. BOTH of these “campers” then left before 7:00 am. THEN a small sedan pulls in right across from us, nose tucked into the woods, and the guy starts playing loud rap music all day long from about noon on, never leaving his car, but he pulled out every couple hours and then came back each time. Finally about 6:00 pm I went to the front gate desk (it was Sunday so they were still there) and told them my wife and I were concerned about “non-campers” using the campground, maybe for illicit activities, and others coming and going at strange times, likely to avoid paying for a campsite. They (there were 3 employees in the building) said they would “tell someone to check on it”. NOTHING was done about it. The guy across from us proceeded sitting in his car ALL NIGHT LONG with loud rap music playing. It was so loud we could hear it through our RV walls, which was strange because it’s pretty well insulated and we never hear anything outside normally. He finally turned it off at about 5:00 am. In the morning, exhausted and disgusted, we packed up and left 1 day early. Their office isn’t staffed on weekdays so we had no chance to ask for our $ back on the last day. This park is a homeless haven. DON’T STAY THERE....
Read moreI haven't had such a good, peaceful and enjoyable camping experience in a really long time. We stayed in a tent, part of a group of campers, some of who stayed in campers, some tents, and some converted buses. Some of us enjoyed a 7 mile hike, others concentrated on kayaking, and although it was quite chill by night, being twelve days before Halloween, the experience was truly memorable. One of our most exciting activities was a nightly kayak trip. Two days after full moon, and wind-silent, our photos resulted in unreal clarity and reflections. The staff at the store was friendly and helpful, but the ice ran out kind of quickly. That was the only little pity. The fact that they sell wood was a big bonus! The best characteristic about the park is it's silence. Early morning, and night time, greeted us with the peaceful sounds of nature. I could live there! We will be back, and if you are a camper/kayak trip lover, this is a great destination. It won't offer you rocky views and cascades, but relaxation, resting, and peace is abundant.
Then I'm Summer, 2025, we took another trip there, and a great choice that was! For the photographic eye, there is so much opportunity, especially in the details that many miss.
Again the camp store and concession store's staff were super friendly and helpful. We stayed 4 days this time, from Saturday to Tuesday, affording us a glimpse of the camp in full days and quiet days. The quiet ones were the most pleasing, as there was peace and restful time. We kayaked a lot, caught two fish(hahaha), and slept in our little two person tent. Money well spent! We left rested and blissfully restored for the rest of the...
Read moreEnjoyed a couple nights midweek at a mostly empty campground. If you are camping you will want to enter off route 173. Google maps wanted to send me to the park office on Harlem and has it labeled the permit office, but that is not the permit office for camping. Lots of hiking opportunities, got 30,000 steps in exploring everywhere in one day. A few trails a closed and we had to change plans while out on a trail. Disappointed the Lone Rock trail was mostly closed. You could get to the rock, but just past it there was a long staircase that was closed. Other places trails are closed for construction or unknown reasons. South side of park is fairly busy even during weekdays. Around campgrounds is quieter midweek. If camping you might prefer the sites over 200. 100-200 are closer together and tend to attract a higher percentage of louder campers. We didn’t know this and chose it to be closer to the flush toilets. Most bathrooms are outhouses. Will choose differently next time. Lots of great trails and...
