I would NOT hold an event here. We came in this weekend for a wedding. When we arrived, it was clear the courtyard where the wedding was taking place was not taken care of for months. Weeds over 5ft tall over run all the garden beds. Weeds of about 2ft where coming through the stone pavers. The fountain that is the main focal feature hadn't been cleaned since before winter. It was toxic and fulled with dead animals. While the guy running the place did take care of cleaning the fountain the night before the wedding, he did nothing about the landscape. The wedding party and some of their guests, weeded and cleaned the courtyard. When the owner was confronted, he said "if I would have known you wanted it weeded, I would have hired someone, but you didn't tell me." I dont know about you, but basic landscaping is common sense for a place you are hosting weddings. Also, I was there in April with the couple. We specifically asked about what would be done for the courtyard and he said that it would be cleaned and a beautiful garden would be in its place. The courtyard was anything but. When we went o the inside event area, there where piles of spiders and bugs everywhere. Again, the weeding party and guests, are the ones that swept and vacuumed the whole event. When asking about the promised, tables, chairs, linens, and so forth, we were directed to where they were and had to get them ourselves. We put them together and set up everything with no help from the venue. All the table cloths were stained and the cocktail cloths had holes. The guy had no problem telling us how careful we had to be not to ruin all their stuff even though everything we were given was junk. We even had to vacuum up stuff from the ceiling falling, that he tried to say we spilt. The carpet had bleach stains everywhere and he repeatedly got upset about the possibility of people spilling on it. He was always in the way but never helping with anything. We had to ask for things multiple times to get anything accomplished. When asked for trash bags, it took over three times. He had to leave to buy them and we where only given four to take care of a wedding of over 80 people. He was all over every guest telling them how he was the owner and he would help, but never followed through. All help came from the wedding party and guests. He finally left at the start of the reception but came back at the end. He was dressed in a kilt and had no problem helping himself to the liquor that the bride and groom paid for. The bride and groom not only paid for the event but they had to book every room in the B&B. He made us close off all the rooms even though they were paid for. If you want your event to run smooth, DO NOT go here. It was so...
Read moreI absolutely love this place and am already looking forward to future stays. Although it’s classified as a bed and breakfast, it definitely has more of the vibe of an inn. Upon arrival, I wasn’t sure how to get in so I called and was greeted by the man whom my suite is named after, Grant. He walked me through entering the code and gave me a verbal tour of the building, the lovely sitting rooms etc, staying on the phone with me until I entered my room.
Highlights: I haven’t used a key in awhile, even the Tesla rental has a key card. There’s something special about using an old fashioned key to open an lock your room. The suite has plenty of space, and no, you do not share a bathroom with other guests :) As you can see from my pictures, the room is inviting with all of the right touches and comfortable too. The shared spaces are my favorite, so well designed and, again, inviting. The breakfast is plenty of food and you select your options the night before and leave your selections in a basket in the Ledgestone Mansion (I am staying in the Mary Sachs House) The view of the river is so peaceful and there’s a paved sidewalk that I highly recommend for a morning walk or run. If you go in the opposite direction, down a block, and take the right at the light, you’ll find a community pond/lake with a trail around it. There are a couple of red chairs facing the river if you want to take in the beauty of nature while in a small city. There are events in the Ledgestone community room at times. I arrived on a Saturday and they were hosting an art gallery/reception/fundraiser/refreshments. I had dinner plans and couldn’t attend but it looked lovely. I ran into the owner tonight and she was delightful- very friendly and welcoming and wanted to make sure that I had everything needed. I am here for business but recommend coming when you have time to relax and enjoy the property. The bed is super comfy, especially the cozy throw. Love having robes in the room. Many places did away with this extra during the pandemic. The water pressure is great.
Recommendations for guests- if you have mobility problems, request a bottom floor as there’s not an elevator. If you don’t, request upstairs and get a few extra steps in :) The rooms aren’t serviced, probably because of Covid, so use the kitchen trash for large items The room has bottled water and you can bring extra beverages to keep in the shared kitchen space. There aren’t stores in walking distance that I would recommend, so bring a few additional bottles of water to have in hand.
Enjoy your...
Read moreWow were were robbed! Sadly this was a most disappointment stay. We had been traveling for 3 weeks, and this was the 2nd worst hotel we stayed in. Especially for the high price. We stayed in a sleepinn for 1/4 this rate that was better! We didn't receive the breakfast we ordered, instead the inept man made scrambled eggs and potatoes because "his staff didn't show." I know why. read on. We never received the welcome/intro email. And when I called the attendant for instructions he made it seems like he couldn't be bothered and I should have read email, but they never sent one. And so we get poor directions form him over phone that ended up being confusing and inaccurate. He said inside the main door I'd find our room key, etc. So when we arrived we went to the a door, which opened (and should have been secure). Big security problem. He came out and showed us the actual entry and he was carrying the room key he said would be inside lobby (disorganized). We get to the room and no welcome letter, no info on wifi, etc. So I had to call to get wifi login info. We were planing on doing laundry, and, of course, they no longer have laundry facilities available. Also our room had a portion curtained off and he said don't go in there. What! In addition the room was freezing cold. The only thermostat was for the entire floor and so idiot keep putting it on 68! We tried to meet half (we wanted 78, so 73), but it kept being set to 68. There was a loud 50+ person party next door that the Inn personnel did nothing to quiet. We slept poorly. There were 3 empty picture hangers and the water fixtures were installed in reverse (should close clockwise)--so odd and foolish, There was also mail left at front of building from months ago, lying at the front door outside. We should be refunded our exorbitant fee for such a valueless stay. We recommend you look elsewhere for a stay...
