My wife and I are wanderlusts from Michigan who yearned for an intimate destination wedding. We wanted a cozy wedding near the mountains at a venue that didn't break the bank. Weeks of searching online led us to Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast.

Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast is a 1750s log home that sits on a 100-acre farm outside Harrisonburg, Virginia. The house retains its original rustic charm, with hand-hewn beams and bluestone chimneys. The owners have made tasteful renovations over time, too- digital thermostats, glass walk-in showers, and WiFi. There are wide-open views around the B&B. On any given morning, you might catch a glimpse of a cow, a deer, or the friendly farm cat, Maple. There are lovely rolling hills in the distance. It's quiet and peaceful. You'd never realize that a city of 51,000 people is only ten minutes away.

It was everything we'd hoped to find. Since we only anticipated about 40 guests, we qualified for Silver Lake's intimate wedding package. That package allowed us to rent all six of the B&B's guest rooms for our wedding party and parents. We were able to hold our wedding ceremony and reception on-site. Weather permitting, the ceremony would be held outside in front of a beautiful arbor overlooking the hills. We'd have our reception under a large tent in the backyard.

After confirming the cancellation policy a few dozen times, we booked before we ever set foot on the property.

The owners stopped responding after we signed a contract. Weeks went by. We repeatedly left voicemails and sent e-mails, and no response. Finally, our wedding planner had enough and visited the venue. That's when we learned the owners we booked with had sold the B&B. The new owners were taking the reins and would contact us soon.

Undoubtedly, this was an anxious time for us. In hindsight, it was the best thing that could've happened.

The new owners, Ben and Hannah, contacted us a couple of weeks later. They apologized profusely for the confusion and promised us an extraordinary experience. They delivered on this promise in spades!

Since taking over, they made many improvements to the property we enjoyed for our wedding day. We're grateful for their efforts and excited to see their continued progress! Ben recently refinished the front porch. It's a welcome and comfortable place to sit in a rocking chair on a chilly morning with a cup of hot coffee and a book. Their dining room features a giant, exquisite dining table that Hannah artfully decorates each season. It's a perfect place to enjoy a hot, filling breakfast and forge new friendships. Lastly, there are guest books in every room and the main dining room. We enjoyed reading about previous guests' stories and experiences. Hopefully, future guests will enjoy reading about ours!

Ben and Hannah worked seamlessly with our wedding vendors to arrange on-site visits and discuss logistics. They communicated constantly and accommodated every reasonable request. We are so grateful that a twist of fate allowed us to meet them. They politely stayed inside for our wedding ceremony, but we insisted they join us for our reception under the tent in their backyard. They cooked and cared for us for days; the least we could do was offer them the same treatment.

We are still determining when we'll return to Virginia, but we will undoubtedly stay at Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast when we do. We know we'll leave with full bellies and hearts. Thank you, Ben and Hannah, for letting us into your home, treating us like family, and providing an unforgettable...

The Silver Lake Bed & Breakfast is an absolutely STUNNING place to stay AND host a wedding! My husband (then fiance) and I needed a place to host our small COVID wedding this past June. Katie and Ryan (the couple who runs the place) were so incredibly accommodating and willing to work with us! They offered us three beautiful locations as possible ceremony sites: one on top of a hill beneath an arbor with the mountainous landscape in the background, one in the front yard framed by gorgeous trees and the house in the back, and one inside the house with wooden detail and old fashioned decor. We were able to set up a table for light refreshments and have our guests mingle on the wrap-around porch outside. Katie and Ryan were always available to help but also gave us our space to arrange things how we wanted. We stayed in the Homestead Suite that night which was SUCH a treat! There was plenty of space for all of our stuff, an amazing whirlpool tub, and gorgeous views from all the windows. The next morning, we were awoken to the smell of a delicious breakfast at the perfect time! We love the idea of embracing community and eating with others, but unfortunately, no other guests were there during our stay. We would have loved to get to know other travelers and are grateful that Silver Lake offers that opportunity! We would DEFINITELY recommend Silver Lake Bed & Breakfast for an overnight stay or hosting a...

A Hidden Gem!

Right outside Harrisonburg, VA in the Blue Ridge Mountains is one of those hidden gems so many travelers are looking for: Well I found it! Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast in Dayton, VA.

My wife and I just spent 4 days and 3 nights there and all I can say is: You better book your dates soon, because this is NOT going to be a hidden gem much longer.

First off, it's a beautiful place. It's a fully renovated (2013-15) farm house from 1750, that also happens to be on working farm. The setting overlooks not only beautiful farm land, but the Blue Ridge Mountains themselves.

Ben and Hannah, the young couple who run Silver Lake B&B, couldn't be nicer and more accommodating. In addition, they're locals who grew up in the area, and have a wealth of knowledge about places to go; things to see and do; and the best restaurants. We followed their instructions and recommendations to the tee and couldn't have had a better time.

The breakfasts are terrific and Ben and Hannah are extremely flexible taking care of any and all dietary needs. BTW, when you're there, ask Hannah to make her French Toast Casserole for breakfast one day. You will not regret it! It's a treat!

We just got home an hour ago and are already planning our next visit. ...

Unforgettable B&B, one of the best we've stayed in VA. So calming and peaceful a location, but the real gem is the renovation of the B&B. It's stunning and charming, with beautiful antique furnishings and decor. Well sized and comfortable room, huge soaking tub and everything is clean, yet homey. The owners are the nicest and made a fantastic hearty breakfast - to include gluten free!! Location is central to Harrisonburg, Luray Caverns aren't far (40min) or a cute town 10min that has amazing spot Cracked Pillar for dining and Grammies for icecream. Perks are walking down the road a ways to meet cows, goats and chickens. Or just sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs to watch the sunset. Don't forget to pet Maple the friendliest barn cat that adopts every guest. Will be recommending to everyone!

This place is so close to perfection. The location and view are spectacular. Some beautiful sitting views and decor inside is so lovely. The soaps and creams were a beautiful touch, the bed and room were cozy. The service was friendly, and our door greeter Maple was such a joy. The dining area did have a fridge and fruit we could have; so a late night water, soda or apple was great and gave that home feeling. I would have two improvements, however. There is little noise buffer, so we could hear the room above us, too well. The creaking was loud from the floor and beds. Secondly, breakfast. Our breakfast was very basic. Two scrambled eggs with 1 slice of bacon, a parfait and a puff pastry. The parfait was so good but the rest of the breakfast was lacking.

The bed and breakfast looks beautiful on the outside and we fell in love with the beautiful kitty Mable. Our room the Garden Room was just not what we were expecting. The first thing I noticed when I went into the bathroom was the used bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash for us to use for our stay .I went to take a shower and the water was not draining it was just staying at my feet the whole time and a piece of something black came up looked like an eyelash.. then we went to breakfast. For breakfast scrambled eggs with peppers and 1 piece of bacon and a breakfast bowl and we all sat there eating with no napkins . We were so disappointed in everything that we left to go home early because of the cleanliness of the place
