This was my first tent camping experience at the beach. I was reluctant to stay here without electricity or a hot shower, plus no shade. Bathrooms are on-site, but again no hot water for hand washing. On the positive, the drawstring, cool shower turned out to be one my favorite parts of the day. It was refreshing and invigorating after a hot day in the sun. The location was perfect as we did lots of kayaking in the Pamlico Sound. I loved waking up to see the lighthouse and walking on the nearby beach at sunset. The cool evening breezes made sleeping a breeze as well. We splurged on an off-road vehicle pass so we could drive on the beach and follow the dunes. We had one stormy night so I definitely recommend sturdy stakes as the wind can be strong. Our dome tent did fine, though it was a little damp from the heavy rain. It dried out quickly with the sun and nice breeze the following morning. We cooked every meal onsite and truly enjoyed the open air dining within our screened tent. Insects were not an issue but I would still recommend repellant spray as a safeguard. This is also a great location for biking and surfing. If you love the outdoors and don't mind roughing it a few days, this is a wonderful place to camp and reconnect...
Read moreHorrible location. It’s really far from the beach like a mile walk, so you have to drive there. Most of their lots had standing water where you would set up your tent. The grass was knee high so it had not been cut in a while. As soon as you stop, mosquitoes are everywhere. It’s not just a few, it is an infestation. Not many people camp here because of it. You will find plenty of spots open to tent. I suggest not even wasting your time going here. Bathrooms are filthy and those to are infested with mosquitoes. I went to the bathroom while deciding if I want to stay and set up camp. I wasn’t in there for more than 30 seconds and mosquitoes were all over me in the bathroom. Horrible place to camp. If you want to camp at the woods then go to the woods. Don’t camp in the this place it’s more woods than beach camping. I ask for a full refund for the two days I reserved. It is a super hassle. You can’t call the park directly, you have to talk to a second party who talks to the park for you. Huge waste of tax payers money. If I don’t get a refund, I will call visa and demand it. Stay at Oregon inlet instead....

Read moreThis was a really nice spot to stay. They have tons of availability. There are so many open spots in a quiet area, far off the road. It's well kept. They had shower houses and bathroom houses throughout. We booked online before seeing the spot. As we arrived, a park police came over and asked if we liked our spot. He noted that it hadn't been mowed in a bit and that we could pick any spot we wanted. So we drove and picked a better spot. I wanted to note how caring he was. We actually saw a snake in the higher grass spot before we moved, so maybe that was a good call. You can easily drive up and on the beach over here if you have permits. We chose to walk, which was a bit of a hike , but a scenic one through one of the many national parks. One thing to note is that there were so many mosquitos. We had everything to repel them, and nothing worked. They were brutal. I got eaten alive. And somehow, they kept getting into our tent all night. So protect yourself if your blood is as yummy to mosquitos as mine. Also, to note $20 to stay the night and $10 if you are a senior. So quiet and would recommend this place to anyone over the...
