Never stayed at a real Bed & Breakfast, so we didn't know what to expect. IT WAS PERFECT! Bill & Barb are amazing hosts. Big front porch with 2 very generous porch swings as well as other comfortable seating. The entrance allows you to feel the warmth. The rooms are upstairs which allowed us to enjoy the setting. The house is filled with amazing photographs - didn't want to miss a one. We stayed in the Mackinac Room in a very comfortable king-size bed with the perfect pillows - I slept through the night for the first time in over 4 weeks. There is a sitting room where we enjoyed coffee and the view! The best part was breakfast!! We sat at the counter in the kitchen, talked and watched as the phenomenal breakfast was being made. Usually I have 2 cups of coffee - I had 4! I realized how comfortable I was and wished we had more time. Can't wait to go back and when we do, it will be for no less than 2 nights. Bill & Barb provide a very warm and relaxing atmosphere. We stood on the back deck, coffee in hand and watched the deer and birds. It's BEAUTIFUL, quiet, and peaceful. Bill & Barb - thank you for true hospitality, good conversation and a truly exceptional breakfast! The taste of your homemade bread still lingers!! You will...
Read moreWe booked this inn, not even knowing it was a B&B. It was just a stopping place for a night on our way to the UP with a great price. It turned out to be a lovely surprise. Our hosts were friendly and accommodating. The setting was on 40 acres with some mowed trails in a quiet rural area with an Amish horse farm nearby. The home had some antiques and amish quilts and nice gardens. Breakfast was good with a relaxed atmosphere where we enjoyed talking with our hosts and other guests. We sat on the shaded porch, played guitar and read books. We drove into town and visited the Cops and Donuts shop which was fun. The only thing to be improved would be more supplies in the bathroom, plus I didn't enjoy the long stairs down to the bathroom from our room. Our room was a little stuffy with the door closed in spite of using the ceiling fan. I wish I had asked for the central a/c to be...
Read moreLet me start by saying I've stayed at just about every hotel, inn, travelodge, etc. in Mt. Pleasant, Clare, Harrison and Houghton Lake in the last 30 years. If you're looking for a GREAT place to stay, the Sweetfern Inn is it. Every part of the experience was very pleasant. The rooms are neat and very clean. The food is excellent and the hosts, Bill and Barb, are genuine good people. If this is your first trip to this area or Michigan stay here and you will experience firsthand why people say Michiganders are some of the nicest folks...
