We stayed in the Ohia Forest Studio Cottage for one night while we were visiting the national park. It was a perfect quiet getaway in the forest. They welcomed us personally and showed us the features of the cottage, and left us local chocolates as a welcome gift. The cottage was very cozy and charming with the natural wood, and decorations. We really appreciated the small, but fully stocked kitchen, and table and chairs, when the food truck we were planning to eat at was closed. We were able to heat up leftovers we had and make a meal. The bathroom was small, but functional. It helped to have the window open for air flow. The main bed was very comfortable. There was no AC, but there was a ceiling fan. Our son slept up in the loft, which was a fun space for him. Our only complaint was that it would have been nice to have a fan in the loft. My son was too warm and had trouble sleeping. We didn't walk around the grounds because it was raining most of the time we were there, but the setting was private and beautiful. Read moreAlii Kane Cottages is a collection of cottages located about 6 miles from Hawaii Volcano National Park. This property is located off of Highway 11, nestled amongst lots of trees. We stayed 1 night after booking a cottage from booking.com @ 160$/night.||The owners are very responsive and they emailed me a couple of times before the stay, informing me on how to get there and providing additional information regarding the stay. When we checked in late evening, the owner came by and explained various amenities in the property.||This is not meant to be a luxurious stay by any stretch of imagination. We had changed our existing itinerary and suddenly needed a place to stay close to Volcanic National Park and this fit the bill, both in terms of distance as well as value.||It gets very cold at night and the owner provided 2 different types of heater as well as an electric blanket for comfort.||Thumbs up:||Quiet surrounding among lots of trees and very close to Hawaii Volcano National Park||Thumbs down:||Dining establishments are very few and require driving for at least 10-15 minutes.||for more reviews check out...
Read moreI am so glad we found this wonderful, cozy cottage in Volcano. It has every amenity you could think of and is still woodsy and quaint. The owners, Mike and Susan, are friendly and helpful. It can get chilly at 3000 ft. elevation, but the bed has a warming pad that can be set to the preferred temperature on each side! The property is 4 acres so you feel very secluded, even though there are two cottages and the owners' home. Plus, you are only 5 miles from the national park entrance. The kitchen is fully appointed with a refrigerator, full stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc. The front porch has a beautiful big propane BBQ too. Susan provided us with delicious Ka'u coffee and local chocolates. And if you prefer to go out, the menus from all the local restaurants are there for your choosing. It is amazing that this place is so affordable. ...
