This was my wife and I first trip to the Big Island. Our second stay on our trip was to the Kane Plantation Guesthouse Bed & Breakfast. located on the west side. The fun here starts with the winding road which which leads to the resort. The road stretches along the mountain side and between rows of fruit trees and a few residential homes. The road is definitely bumpy in some spots, however, this added a little adventure to the ride. (drive slowly) After reaching our destination, the entrance to the plantation contained several huge plush trees, forming a lovely canopy over the roundabout entrance. We parked in the covered parking spots, listed for visitors. On our arrival, we were immediately greeted by David, one of our host for the week. David gave us a really heart warming welcome and greeted us both by our first names. He handed each of us an umbrella to keep us dry from the current rain. David then guided us down a wooden deck platform which led to the main area of the guesthouse. He gave us a tour of the main area while pointing out the small ice machine, towels for the hot tub or for using during a trip to the beach, the sauna, the hot tub, a few lounge chairs on the deck and a nice size wooden table with an umbrella and chairs. He then showed us the dining room area, which was a large screened in room with plenty of tables and chairs. Adjacent to the dining room, was lounge area, with a cozy couch and several other chairs. This room contained a small bar area, providing a variety of alcohol along with several mixers and of course cocktail glasses. David advised us that all the amenities were available 24hrs a day. ||We were then shown our suite for the next six nights. We had chosen the Kanaloa Suite, and could not have been more pleased with the room. The main section of the suite has a fairly large living room with a seating area, a television, a dining table with chairs and a buffet cabinet which contained a small set of dishes, silverware and glassware. On top of the cabinet was the coffee maker, hot water kettle and a variety of coffees, tea bags & sweeteners. There was a bowl containing a variety of fresh fruits and a basket containing a variety of chips, cookies and nuts. This area of the suite had windows completely along the front side, with views of the plantation and a view of the ocean water in the distance. From here was a large sliding door which opened onto the lanai. The lanai contained several seating options including a hammock and was stocked with a variety of reading material and games. A perfect place to sit, relax and enjoy the views. The other side of the lanai had a second sliding door which opened into the master bedroom. The bedroom was just gorgeous and also had views over looking the plantation and the ocean waters. The sun sets were simply remarkable from almost anywhere on this side of the property. The bathroom was extremely spacious, with a nice size walk-in shower, a large sink counter and toilet area. If you stepped outside the rear bathroom door, you would find the outdoor shower located on the deck. It was very private and super relaxing to feel the nice breeze while showering. ||Our host for the morning breakfast was Cal. He also gave us a heart warming welcome and gave us a complete overview of the breakfast spread. He explained the different varieties of fruits, fresh breads, jams and jellies and granola. In addition to the above items, breakfast each morning consisted of a different daily entree. The meals were always delicious and perfectly prepared each morning. The breakfast also included a morning smoothie, fresh mango juice, coffee, tea and water. A perfect meal to start your day. ||We had a chance to meet our other host, Michael, on several occasions during our stay. He also assisted with the breakfast service and was always pleasant to speak with. We learned so much about the plantation and the Kona side of the island from him and all of our hosts. ||We had stopped by the plantation one afternoon, in between plans. During that time, we meet Jim, who was cleaning the rooms and restocking the drinks and snacks. He greeted us and introduced himself. He offered to give us a tour of the Kane Suite, which he was in the process of cleaning for some arriving guest. He took time to give us some history of the plantation and the actual guesthouse itself. He made sure that we were completely satisfied with our room and if we required anything else that would improve our stay. ||Our stay here could not have been more pleasant. Each evening when we returned to the plantation, we drove through the small roundabout, which featured a water fountain and was lit by several tiki torches. The walk way leading to our suite was also lit by several candles and the sound of relaxing music, playing from a few speakers near the dining room. Our room was incredibly clean, the blinds were closed nightly and more relaxing music was playing from our tv speaker. Every evening there were two freshly made cookies, hand wrapped and placed on the coffee table. Fresh flowers were placed on the bed along with wrapped chocolates. New containers of bottled water were placed on each night stand, along with lens wipes for our reading glasses. Fresh flowers were placed throughout the suite and a welcome home vibe was felt every evening. ||What really made this location stand out above and beyond any other vacation spot we have ever been to, was the warm and heart felt welcoming we received. Not only on our arrival, but every interaction we had with any of our host made us feel so welcome. David, Michael, Cal and Jim are four of the nicest people we have ever met. Their daily greetings were sincere and they seemed to also be just as excited to see and speak with us as we were to be there. They were always interested in hearing about our daily adventures and were always willing to provide suggestions regarding the different sights, beaches and local dining places. They made us feel like part of the family on every occasion. Thanks You all so much and we hope to have the opportunity to visit again...
