This experience was a poop show from the get go.|We were not told to “register” when we arrived. Even if we had known where to register (it was in a saloon adjacent to the campground) We couldn’t have stopped there anyway due to lack of parking. ( We were towing a 5th wheel).|A resident of the park (she was the ONLY positive in a negative weekend stay) saw us looking confused and flagged us down. It wasn’t her job but she helped us find our campsite. However, when we finally did locate it…we couldn’t believe our eyes. It was not wide enough for an RV, especially one with a slide on one side and an awning on the other. On top of that it wasn’t paved or graveled. It was grass. There had been 2 days of rain prior to our arrival so backing into that spot was likely going to get us, at the very least, super muddy and at worst, stuck. There was trailer on one side and a drop off on the other. |The management would do nothing to mitigate the situation. According to her there were no other available sites. We were in a bind because we had chosen the campground due its proximity to family in Red Wing. We didn’t have the time or the desire to find another campground at this point.|We decided to try to make it work since our choices were limited. After backing in, we realized that the water was located about as far away as it could be to our control box on the camper. We had to go to a hardware store and buy another hose to make that stretch. I wish I had taken a photo. Our awning, not even extended fully was 1 inch from our next door neighbor. I’m sure they were about as pleased as us.|The sites were all too narrow and later on that evening they put another camper on the “road” to move out of the campground. In other words, we were stuck there…no room to move forward or backward to leave.|Just to make this stay even worse…the campground sounded like a frat party ALL NIGHT. Lots of noise. LOTS. Typically a campground has rules for quiet time (after 11 is normal). Nope. Not this place. Party all night if you want.|I can not under any circumstance recommend ANYONE stay in...
Read moreVisited your campsite with another family over Labor Day weekend, we had two sites. Stayed from thursday to sunday. There were four adults and six kids ( 2,2,5,6,7,11). The sites we had were pretty nice, level and clean and plenty of room. The area is very scenic for camping.
The staff was friendly and laid back. The food at the bar was decent (average bar food) and priced right.
The bike trails that were near by were nice and a visit to red wing to the barn bluff was great.
There were a few disappointments though. The flies are terrible due to the horse campsites I'm sure. The pool is closed until 1pm on friday which is odd and the pool was not heated. The pool area and shower house by the pool need some TLC.
The playground is small and simple, not any kids activities which I was surprised for a campground over a holiday weekend.
The kids did locate an empty water bottle with two hypodermic needles and a burnt pop can near by during a scavenger hunt which was alarming.
If you are looking for a place to camp, ride horses, go to the bar all within walking distance this place is a 5. If the owners put some money back into the place and aimed towards some family activites (maybe that's not their goal) that could do wonders.
Goodhue County Sheriffs Office patroled thru and stopped by ,they showed off their K-9, very nice...
Read moreAlot of the HVC campground is for seasonal/permanent sites. The main area for daily camping is open but has some smaller shade trees. These were water & electric sites, fairly level and grassy (not graveled) with picnic tables and fire rings. There is also a separate horse campground. There are 3 sets of shower/bath rooms. The ones closest to us were older and had a single shower & sink, maybe 2 toilets. A dump station is available or pumping at your site for stays longer than 7 days. ||||There is a trout stream and a paved bikepath next to the lower campgrounds that runs all the way to Red Wing as well as hiking and horseback riding trails. A swimming pool is located in the seasonal campground. Also a old barn that is home to two ponies, several cats and chickens. ||||HCV's Old Western Saloon at the campground entrance is where you register. Very handy walk for a cold draft beer, lunch or dinner. Menu has a good variety of appetizers, sandwiches, buffalo or California burgers, pizza, soups, or main entree specials like roast beef, baked ham, steaks, Friday fish fries, etc. See their website haycreekvalley for info about campground...
