My husband and I stayed at the Abbe House the second weekend of September this year for our yearly anniversary trip. What we expected to be a welcoming stay and wonderful experience was not at all what we expected. I had some issues with getting emails back from the owner when I had questions about our reservation, and he was very short with me on the phone, not really offering much information about the place. I spoke to him a few times just to make sure our reservation was saved because he did not send any confirmation of our reservation. He told me to call him when we were on our way there. I tried calling the number I had saved in my phone for him, and it said the number had been disconnected. By the time we drove up to the gate, I was worried that something was wrong, and I tried emailing him. There was no speaker button at the gate, just a number pad to enter the passcode. My husband decided it would be best to drive around the gate since we were getting no response and there seemed no way to contact the owner. Not only was I very embarrassed because I tried to talk my husband out of it, but I realized that the phone number I had saved in my phone for the Abbe House was the wrong number and my email would not send because my phone’s service was not working at the gate (had no bars). Even if I had found my earlier mistake, there would have been no service on my phone to call him at the gate. So I was quite embarrassed when we walked in, and I had hoped for understanding in the series of unfortunate events, but the owner made me feel awful about what had happened. I understand he could have been a little perturbed by the commotion, but since we were about to pay him money, he could’ve shrugged it off and let it be - as an unusual event that doesn't happen every day. So, I tried to forget about the embarrassment and just think about our anniversary trip because it is very important to me. We paid the money and went upstairs to pick out our room (yes, we were allowed to pick it out!). We stayed in the Magnolia room, and it seemed pretty nice. We did not stay for supper, though I am sure it was probably delicious from the remarks of the other people who stayed for supper. We wanted to roam the town for the one night we would be alone together without our baby. When we came back to Abbe House, we walked the beautifully kept property and just relaxed. We started to go up to our room, but it seemed someone kept turning the lights off to the hallway upstairs (every time we turned them on they would be off the next time), so it was a little difficult roaming around in the dark. We settled in our room and could hear other people coming upstairs through the wide crack under the door to our room. We found beer bottles behind the chair in the room. Otherwise, the room was clean and comfortable, and we had time to relax. The next surprise was when I tried to take a shower the following morning. The shower head was manually attached (rigged) and I could not adjust it. Needless to say, I am a short person and I had to stand on my tip toes to reach the spray. So, having to take so much time with the shower and trying to look good for my husband, I was a little late for breakfast. It was delicious with eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, and coffee. I felt I could get past all the flaws if everyone was so friendly… but right before we left the owner made us feel uncomfortable and embarrassed about what happened the day before. We could have pointed out all the flaws of our stay, but we decided to get out of there and try to spend the rest of our very small vacation on things that would make us feel good (like visiting Jitterbug Café and the various shops downtown). All in all, I can’t say that someone else’s experience would not be a good one, but we will not be returning.

Read moreOur second time at Abby House Inn was just as good as the first time. We drove in on a Tuesday evening of Spring Break expecting to see it full except for us. But it wasn't! We were their only guests. What's wrong with everybody? Abbé House has excellent hosts, wonderful breakfasts and comfortable rooms. ||Dan and Debbie are the hosts, and they make you feel as if this is your home. Dan welcomed us at the door when we first arrived. Debbie gave us access to the refrigerator so anything from our car could be kept cool. She also helped us find all the antique and second-hand stores (there's quite a few!). Each day she was willing to spruce up our room should we desire it. Both are warm and friendly to adults and children. ||The rooms are tastefully decorated with queen beds, ample seating, and Roku streaming on the television. I can't remember how many rooms, but each has an en suite bath with a tub that has jets! And speaking as one with Lupus, the tub was one of my favorite perks. The beds are queen-sized and so comfortable with 4 fluffy pillows. They also have a movie room with a big screen and ample DVD for children and families.||Debbie makes wonderful breakfasts--to order! She also provides various juices, a Keurig with a variety of coffee flavors and strengths, fruit, tea, hot chocolate, oatmeal and Fruit Loops for children. The coffee bar is always open, BTW. We also had opportunity to eat in their cozy dining room with a 2-wall fireplace or al fresco under a nice, airy porch!||I can't imagine why no one else was here with us this week. Kind hosts, comfortable bedrooms, really good food, and quiet atmosphere. What's...
Read moreOn our way to a family reunion we chose the Abbe House Inn for a night because the website description sounded nice. The location of this inn was in a beautiful area by Little Red River and Greers Ferry Lake, AK. Debbie one of the owners was super friendly and helpful from booking the reservation to arranging for chef Mark to make us a dinner when we arrived. It was fabulous. Chef Mark and Stacey his partner were friendly and we enjoyed chatting with them after the dinner. |||| We chose the Spring room to sleep in from the pictures on the website when we booked the reservation and we were not disappointed. The room was well appointed, spacious and the queen bed (although described as a double on the website), was very comfortable. This country inn was very clean too. The next morning we went down for breakfast and the dining room was stocked with coffee, tea, cereals and delicious muffins. Debbie then cooked us a breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast. During breakfast we had a lovely conversation with another couple who was celebrating their anniversary there for a few days. We had never been in this area and we are intrigued by it. We plan to return for a few days getaway to explore the area and stay at...
