Staff rating: 5 stars, the owner Eric was great, really wanted to make sure we were happy while here. They even played Game 6 at the big rec hall for us which was BYOB (no glass containers).
Activities: 4 stars, there seemed to be a list of kids activities so good for families, there is a pond to swim in, fish in, and rent a boat (canoe, kayak, row) for a very reasonable hourly rate. Also there was a volleyball court on the beach. Skip the mini golf though as it is really beat up.
Seasonal people/regulars: 4 stars, while some wanted to be helpful (telling us where things are because they could tell we were lost) or just saying hi and smiling, my first interaction was with a guy who told me to "smile girl, it won't hurt"... which 🙄 just, can we please stop this? I think I can speak for every woman that has ever been told this: STOP IT mind your business. Kids also ran through our site and almost ruined Game 6 for us as they came in unattended and obnoxious. Otherwise, people kept to themselves and there were no parties late into the night past quiet hours which indicates people are respectful of the rules for the most part.
Amenities/Sites: 3 stars, I was shown a few other sites when I expressed concern over our assigned site (66), and they were all the same size, not exactly big but also not the smallest we have seen (although they were small enough, and a lot of one-way traffic roads so that you are only allowed one vehicle at the camp site). None of the sites we were shown were private/wooded sites which is what my husband and I prefer. There were some weird ones that had mulch on them? 91 and 92 I think. The firepits were ok... ours faced the road which is not ideal, and also I wish they had a grate on them for cooking/heating water. Our primitive site did have running water shared with another site which was nice, and there was a short path that cut through some thin woods to the bathroom/showers which was also convenient. Showers were coin operated, one quarter for 5 minutes, but the first 90 seconds is the water heating up so definitely bring at least two quarters! Overall, this is not a big campground so nothing is really all that far from you no matter where your site is located, which is weird then as to why there were so many golf carts... and I don't mean staff-operated ones...
Camp store: 3 stars, expensive if you need something in a pinch like propane (one small Coleman can was $9), ice and wood was reasonable though, and it is kept inside protected from the elements so the wood is always dry when you purchase it.
Location: 2 stars, Brewery right near by which was great, Dunks was right on the corner, but other than that there is nothing around... except for the highway literally above our heads as we are tent campers and their only primitive sites are along the highway. I expressed concerns about sleeping right when I got there, so the owner, Eric, showed me other sites (again, very hospitable staff) but it didn't matter where in the campground you went because the sound of zooming cars was inevitable.
I would give 4 stars if I was RV camping because those sites are actually on the pond and have beautiful scenery, but the sleepless nights is what makes it 3 stars for us. If you aren't a light sleeper this would be a good place for you! Also if you sleep in a camper you probably won't hear the traffic, but if you are tenting like us then this isn't the best place around here for you. Definitely good for families though and pet-friendly! Maybe one day when we have our own camper we will return, just because of how great the...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about the campground. We are full-timers with a lot of young children, and have been to quite a lot of RV parks. This one was very mid. I was skeptical going in based on the reviews, but I’m glad we tried it out. We have considered moving to NH in the past so it was fun to check out the area at a reasonable price. The people outside of the campground were so friendly. That’s why I was surprised how unfriendly the staff seemed to be. I work full time and had someone bang on my door mid-day to tell me we couldn’t have fires (we did not have one going nor had we had one previously) and was not the most friendly about it either… There has to be a more effective way to spread communication (aka text messages). Every small conversation had with staff was just a bit rough and not necessarily friendly. Most of the campground seems to be permanent residents and they weren’t really up for socializing with others. I get it, no judgement. I just wouldn’t come back if we are ever in the area. We would probably prefer a more family-friendly location for our next NH stay. Overall it was OK and we did enjoy the Granite State and being close to Boston. We were in site 1, and I would recommend finding another site if you have the option. As for some of the negative reviews about road noise, there definitely is road noise, but that’s the price you pay for convenience of location. We didn’t really hear it too much at night and it didn’t...
Read moreWe travel full-time and have the past 3 years. This park has it all: great location, welcoming atmosphere, friendly faces, and activities! The park has well-maintained gravel spots with a lot of tree coverage. We didn’t have an issue with our T-mobile cell coverage or Starlink. We were in site 93. Everyone, staff and fellow campers, were kind and welcoming. We even had someone gift us fire wood. We arrived on October 12th- just in time for their Halloween events. We decorated our site and had trick-or-treaters. There is even a site that has a haunted house- so fun! During our stay, we were able to visit so many areas! This park has a GREAT location. You’re 10 minutes from downtown Henniker, about 15-20 minutes from Concord, an hour from the Maine state line, an hour & a half from Boston, and an hour & a half from Salem. The park also has a playground, horse shoes, a ‘beach’ area, and fire pits at each site. After a week stay, we wanted to extend an additional week. The owners were so gracious in allowing us to extend and stay in our same site. One note, beware of the dryer heat (specifically the lower right one). I dried a load on high heat, thinking nothing of it, and a few pieces of clothing were messed up due to how hot it got. Likely a user error on my side, but heads up. It was bittersweet leaving today because we enjoyed our time at this park so much. We are absolutely considering talking with them about a seasonal site...
