We stayed at Settler’s House, which is a nice distance from other buildings and has plenty of living space. We didn’t need the upstairs rooms, but it’s a nice option if you have more than 2-3 people; we paid an extra $10 a night and our son camped out on an air mattress we brought. There is a good amount of space and equipment in the kitchen, and we were nicely surprised to find some tasty and healthy snacks provided by hosts Terry and Deborah. There is a dining room if you enjoy formal sit-down meals, but we were fortunate to have good weather, so we generally grabbed our food and ate outdoors. ||||Oberlin is a quick drive or a nice bike ride from Riverdog, and there’s plenty to eat, drink, and do there. There are also several wineries in the area (some have weird hours, so plan ahead). There are great nearby parks. If you’re from out of the area and want to cover a lot of ground, you can easily do day trips to Cleveland or Cedar Point. Northeast Ohio has something for everyone, and you can surely find off-site activities that are up your alley.||||However, Riverdog Retreat is a place where if you really want to relax and unwind, you can bring provisions to the house and just “be” without having to go anywhere. Do yourself a favor and take some time to actually enjoy this special property while you’re there. Explore the grounds! Walk around and listen to the birds and smell the grass. Hike down to the river. Grab some wood and take it to one of the firepits. Walk the trails. Pet the friendly hounds and cats. Visit the gallery- several times! The place abounds with creative works that were made with great care and skill, and you will keep discovering new pieces when you return. ||||Many thanks to Terry and Deborah for the kind hospitality, and for making this unique retreat available for creating wonderful...
Read moreI have stayed at Riverdog Retreat four times now and when I leave I'm always thinking about the next time I can go back! This B&B has a relaxing, peaceful feel and even with all the houses and suites booked it doesn't feel crowded. I always feel like my guests and I are the only ones there. Very friendly dogs and cats that live on the property or come and go with the owners and all are very friendly. This retreat is off the beaten path but you can get to down town Oberlin in just 10-15 minutes for grocery shopping or checking out various eateries and shops. Various hiking trails throughout the beautiful acres of this property (maps provided) and the Vermilion River runs through that provides a tranquil, trickling sound. Deborah & Terry, the owners, make you feel very welcome and have thought of everything for you so you can just show up and relax! Each dwelling has a book that can answer all your questions about local things to do, places to eat, adventures to go on, wineries and much more. The owners are local artists and their studio is onsite with a gallery that guests have access to 24/7 for viewing their unique, beautiful art, connecting to Wifi or using the telephone if you don't get cell phone service. Breakfast items are provided such as fresh fruit, organic milk and cereal, tea, coffee, and homemade bread. Another perk that you don't have to travel off the property for is live music. Almost every Saturday night there is live music onsite for your enjoyment. I feel so very lucky to have stumbled upon this little piece of heaven and it's a great getaway to recharge the batteries! I've come both for a romantic weekend away with my fiance and girl's weekends with my friends and family. I promise you won't be...
Read moreDeborah and Terry have created a truly unique experience for their visitors. The rustic property is secluded, wooded and quiet. You will find over a mile of walking paths with river views, native singing birds and other wildlife. We stayed at the Cedar House, which was beautifully decorated with craftsman style furnishings, a comfortable bed, and a full kitchen stocked with essentials. The living room was cozy and warm with a gas fireplace, perfect for our winter stay.||||Beyond the relaxing accommodations, Terry and Deborah let us enjoy their expansive art gallery as a common space to work. Their prolific artwork is scattered about the whole property, including in the homes. We really enjoyed being surrounded by their creativity.||||To top it off, we took a few small steps over to the gallery one evening for an awesome live band performance. The gallery and music venue was open for offsite visitors, and they had a nice turnout of around 75 guests. They had plenty of appetizers and brick oven pizzas on site, made to order. In the summer they hold concerts outside in one of their charming barns.||||Riverdog was a retreat; different from any other weekend trip I've had. Our hosts were so welcoming and accommodating, and they've created a lovely environment for themselves and their guests. I look forward to visiting...
