All the highly rated reviews are right. This place is terrific...clean, comfortable, cozy, and convenient. For me, getting a good nights sleep is key and typically the ac/heat unit is the challenge. Not here. It is very quiet, doesn't startle you when it kicks on/off and keeps a constant temperature. My room was one of the smaller rooms but even with two of us was plenty big enough. The unique layout of the room actually makes it feel even bigger. A little bit of road noise mainly during the day (not much though!) can easily be ignored or there was a dream machine that took it away. The bed was very comfortable and felt like home. I was surprised to see how nice the common eating area was with a stocked refrigerator and cabinets with all the breakfast foods you might want. A large sitting area off to the side made for a nice place to relax at night by the fireplace and play some cards or read a book. There was an outdoor firepit area that I didn't use but looked awesome. This is a family run business and Julie, the owner, could not have been more friendly. I even got to have an extended chat with her dad, who bubbled with enthusiasm. The Inn is close to plenty of outdoor adventures including Gorges State Park and several of NC's famous waterfall attractions. Sapphire Valley Resort area and the surrounding Cashiers town was just a short scenic drive away. In summary, there was a sign in the eating area that read, "Come as strangers, leave as friends". That could not be any more true. I'll be...
Read moreTrip from Sapphire - Cashiers - Highlands over a long weekend ... the Brook Trout Inn was our first accommodation along the way, and we couldn't have asked for more. (We'd never been to this area of NC so didn't quite know what to expect.) This place is directly off the main drag, and is run by a husband and wife with a small team to assist.
Julie (the owner) was as sweet as pie, and each morning greeted us in the dining area, offering to prepare our bacon and eggs in any style. This was probably the best aspect of our stay. She was happy to talk with us endlessly, and quick to make an outline of all thing things we could do during our stay. The continental breakfast area was always available for guest use, we really loved that; we played hours of Uno there of an evening.
The property is close enough to the main road that you can hear traffic, but the noise was tolerable, and it was not constant. This did not bother us, and would not deter us from another stay here, ever.
I fail to understand any review which is four stars or less, people will complain about everything.
The accommodations were priced just right ... we stayed in high-season (July) and were quite pleased by what we paid.
The Brook Trout Inn exceeded our expectations...
Read moreThe Brook Trout Inn is a precious place to stay run by Julie and her incredible family. The property itself was completely redone a few years ago and they did a wonderful job updating it and creating plenty of cozy spaces. The beds are really comfortable, the linens are high end, the shower is beautiful and the kitchen area has everything you need to make a great meal. They provide eggs, bacon, bagels, toast, orange juice, oatmeal, etc. if you don't bring your own food to make. There is a huge extra space for sitting with a lovely fireplace and all glass windows to overlook the property's beautiful trailed forest. Julie is an incredible person who is really helpful and her dad Jim is always on hand to lend a hand with anything you need. There are plenty of trails behind the property to take your dog on and a ton of nearby places (Gorges State Park) to get serious about hiking and waterfall viewing. The Inn is close to so many restaurants and the grocery store in town. It's halfway between Brevard (about 25 mins) and Highlands (30 mins) making it the perfect location to explore the Sapphire area. We could not recommend this Inn more and we will definitely stay again. Thank you Julie...
