Very Disappointed in the fact that we had reservations at their campground for Labor Day weekend. We are 7 days out and getting our camper ready, however we can’t get our slide out working, and I was willing to get proof from a notable camper repair place that it is truly broken, and that we aren’t trying to cancel for any reason, which I told the manager I understand this probably happens. However, I would provide evidence, showing this to be a true. Even when I was being very polite, and courteous, the manager Lynette was extremely rude and unprofessional. Even hung up on me. She said, the cancellation states, you have 14 days to notify us of any cancellations, which I also said I understood and yes did read, and agree to, when we agreed to make reservations there, however, even when I could provide physical proof to provide proof and told them I could send a statement or have the repair facility talk to them, they still were unwilling to help, incredibly rude and said that’s just to bad. We will be charging you the entire 3 day stay, whether you show up or not. I would not recommend anyone staying there ever, as they are unwilling to work with customers, and have little to no respect for people, as it was clearly evident in the way they communicated with me. Again, would not recommend HolySmoke campground, with the current management. 08/23/19 There are plenty of other campgrounds we have stayed at, that we have enjoyed in the Black Hills. We will no longer be supporting this campground in the future. Very disappointed...

The owners of the hotel are completely inflexible. We had a family reunion. We rented out all of the cabins for our 80 person gathering. One of the cabins which had its own entrance was large enough for everyone to gather for dinner, but the owner refused to let us all eat there. We had rented the picnic shelter on the property, but it was cold and rainy. It seemed like the owner has a lot of distrust of her clients who stay at the resort because there are signs everywhere which make clear how much you will be charged if you dirty or lose any towels or kitchen items. (Most of the kitchen. items look like they came from the dollar store) There is a list of all the items that the kitchens are supposed to have, but you should check to make sure you have the items because you will be charged for them when you leave, even if they were never there to begin with. Honestly, the cabins were not very well equipped with things for eating and cooking. My biggest criticism is that the beds are rapped in plastic. They were super noisy and uncomfortable. Although, this resort has several cabins, it should not be an option for anyone having a reunion because there’s no place for a family to break bread together. It was ironic because our family was originally in the hotel business and was known for hospitality. I don’t think the owner cared at all if we had what we needed or we were comfortable even though she made between 20,000 to 30,000 dollars from or family. She should get out of this business. Do...

We had a reservation for cabin 23 (end unit), however when we checked in the woman at the front desk said, no you booked cabin 22. When my wife pulled out the confirmation and showed her that we had indeed booked cabin 23, NOT 22, the woman finally stated that they moved our reservation to another cabin because a guest that was good friends with the owners wanted our cabin that WE had reserved!! So they unilaterally moved our reservation after we booked and confirmed it. GREAT WAY TO TREAT YOUR GUEST!! The woman at the desk was also complaining that their business was down and blamed it on the economy, however treating your guests like this certainly could explain it. The woman at the desk also stated that cabins were basically the same, if that was the case why did the owner’s friend want cabin 23? Furthermore, the queen bed mattress was shot and should have been replaced along time ago and the blinds on the front windows were broken and several were missing, so you couldn't see outside and it was very dark inside without the ability to let in natural light. Renter’s beware - we will not be returning to this facility and do not support or tolerate such shady business practices….

Post comment - my wife and I both heard you describe the situation for moving us was “friends of the owner” and we confirmed this by direct subsequent conversation with the guest in 23. Regardless of you owning what you said is on you - we stand by our...

My husband and I have been staying at Holy Smoke Resort for over 16 years. Holy Smoke Resort is our home away from home. We have traveled here with our parents, friends, kids etc. and it never disappoints. Danny and Lynette have always made us feel at home and apart of their family since day one. If we ever had a special request whether it could be met or not they always tried their best to accommodate. We travel in our big rig and with our yellow lab and this campground fits us perfectly. We have had friends and family stay in the cabins and they also have had a wonderful experience. The resort provides all the necessities and you just cant put a price on the way you feel when you are here. The way this campground is nestled in the mountains is so cozy and quaint but also close to all the attractions we absolutely wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

Stayed 2 nights 5/23. The campground IS very close to the main road but the campground is below the road in a geographical bowl of sorts. The sites are heavily graveled but not wide enough. We are in an Airstream w/ no slides, had a neighbor roll in with a slide, if we had an opposing slide- it would of been REAL close. There are picnic tables but the sites are too tight to enjoy them. When it rains, as it did, you feet have to walk in dirt (or mud In our case as it rained while we were there). There are no frills such as bathhouse, laundry etc. There is a small fenced dog park but we walked around the perimeter of the (appx. 36 site campground). It was very pretty and green, lots on pine trees. Close to Keystone and MT Rushmore. There are LOTS of really good RV parks in the Black Hills. Didn’t regret we stayed here.

Holy Smoke Resort was perfectly located for our trip to the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore since it was only 4 miles away from the entrance to Mt. Rushmore. Besides the geographical location, though, our cabin was also situated on a grassy hill with lots of pine and birch trees. We had a wide wooden porch overlooking the property, and it was the perfect place to enjoy a cold beer in the evening and our breakfast and coffee in the morning. The single room cabin was charming with its wooden beams and the quilt on the bed. Clean, comfortable, safe, and quiet, even though we left our windows open at night to enjoy the cool breeze. The kind lady who greeted us upon arrival was warm and welcoming, too. Highly recommended!
