On arrival, we were excited as the property was very clean and seemed well organized. The check-in process was very easy as we were in and out within 5 minutes. The guide to our lot was very helpful, and we genuinely appreciated her assistance.
Our first day, we took the opportunity to explore and ended up at the pool for a few hours, considering the weather was nearly picture perfect.
While I understand things get busy during a holiday weekend, the chaos that came with evening and the following days was absolutely inexcusable.
The pool area on Saturday and Sunday was completely overcrowded, to the point where it was borderline unsafe. If you weren't there at 9am, you definitely would find yourself sitting on the ground as seating is very limited.
With the holiday weekend, the staff should have known how busy it was going to be and should have had someone there to help control the chaos. Between the overcrowded pool (they only have one), the annoyance of drunk people playing 5 different raidos at once, the kids jumping over people's heads in a crowded pool, it was not at all a "resort" feeling.
As for the tiki bar, we watched bartenders literally say " I'm keeping track in my head" to their friends as they were charged $30-$40 for what should have been a $200 bill.
To the management staff- Your bartenders are stealing.
Additionally they have park "rules" yet we watched so many kids driving recklessly on golf carts and common courtesy went out the window with the party people blasting music until whatever time they wanted.
With the late night music, and the park being so close to some dirt bike trail that all you hear is engines reving all ours of the night, we ended up leaving our second night, cutting our stay shirt, so we could get a good night's rest elsewhere.
I'm all about having a good time, but this place was a mess in terms of the control and how it was organized.
As an added note to the management staff; we tried calling to talk to avoid the lengthy review, but nobody seems to be available when calling.
Update 7/7/24- We tried The Resort at Canopy Oaks, again, hoping for a different experience.
Staff Compliment! - I can't remember he name, but the lady at check-in is a sweetheart. She's warm and welcoming and has the eagerness to make every guest happy! It's the little things in life!
It's still a mostly family oriented environment but still simply lacked the oversight of management, and consistency around amenities and public spaces.
Our site (339) was stellar in terms of cleanliness and location. All of the sites are easy to back in to and offer the same amenities, unless you upgrade to a premium site which offers a upgraded fire pit (no burning allowed this time of year) and an added grill area. Our predominant issue with the site was the mosquitos! It's apparent that the current management is not investing in the property and much of the property is becoming unkept or maintained. From the broken gym equipment, to grass that was knee deep in many areas (mowed the day before the holiday), to the unstable WiFi (1-5mbps down, 2-3mbps up). It simply isn't being maintained as it should. The WiFi was our #1 complaint, which was a property wide issue. Go figure that this was the reason we came here for a week, being I work from the road occasionally and had depended on the property to support this (we did't have any issues last time). I chatted via text with the property, where I was told to contact their support desk, which conveyed it was a property wide issue. The property new this as even their equipment didn't work either as it was mostly down over 4 days but still had me waste my time by calling support for no reason.
We do have hope for change! Our second from last day here, I was informed via an unsolicited call from their NEW MANAGEMENT CEO around the review I left a year ago! Wow! What service already! He informed me of changes coming and the definite need for it. I have high hopes that if/when we return, the property may have a better handle on the...
Read moreWe stayed at Resort at Canopy Oaks from January 2 to April 15, 2024. For a resort that is remote and a 1 to 2 hour drive to a beach they manage to provide enough fun to make us want to return for more. The friendliness of the staff from check in to check out needs to be mentioned, again, and again, and again. I have never met nicer, more helpful people in any other resort. Kudos to whomever is doing the hiring. The lot sizes are bigger than we have ever seen, some equipped with fire pits, bbq’s and paver stones. Garbage is picked up every day, Sunday included, The resort grounds are amazingly clean. The buildings that house public washrooms and laundry facilities are also extremely clean. Well worth mentioning - the price can’t be beat. Believe me I have looked and looked and looked. My husband played Pickleball most mornings and golfed with the group created by guests at the resort a couple of times a week. He was kept even busier with Yoga on Monday evenings, Bingo 3 times a week at the Tiki Bar, live bands on the weekend, food trucks, and planned events. I’m happy with Yoga 3 mornings a week, Bingo 3 times a week, live bands on the weekend, food trucks, planned events, and reading. Having said all the above there are a few things that could be changed to make the stay that much better. Observations: The size of the gym is far too small for the number of guests trying to use it. My husband eventually gave up and set his exercise plan aside. I didn’t even bother trying. This is unfortunate and it could certainly be avoided. They have now moved the gym to the other side of the Clubhouse, into an even smaller area. Right beside where it is currently located is a room that would accommodate the machines and mats. If the wall was removed between these rooms a nice sized gym could be created. There is also a huge need for more equipment and newer machines. All 3 of the laundry areas should be equipped with stacked machines. This would provide room for at least 2 more washers and dryers in each area. There also is an overwhelming need for a dedicated washer and dryer for all things D.O.G. Speaking of dogs, a dog wash station would be greatly appreciated. Simple enough to install where there is already a source of hot and cold water I think and being able to keep my dog clean is a high priority when living in an RV. A minimal charge of say $10.00 would not be unreasonable. Again – a dog need. Large dogs need room to run. The large dog park could easily be doubled in size. Move the fencing back and voila all large dogs can run and run and run. Currently they just get going and must stop. The posted hours of front gate, Store, Deli, and Tiki Bar need to be adhered to. I heard many stories of the Store closing early or not allowing transactions other than cash because the day end report had already been run at 4:45. The Tiki Bar was shut down tight for a few days. We were shut out at the front gate at 8pm twice. Build a gazebo at the Pickleball courts for players to sit in the shade between games. Better yet, remove the gazebos at the pool. I never saw them used once and they take up an enormous amount of space. They can be moved to the Pickleball courts. When moved add more, lots more, lounge chairs. On a beautiful day when the park was about 2/3 full there were 29 lounge chairs at the pool and not one available. The chairs can easily be placed in 2 rows to more than double the number. Hire a professional pool cleaning company to scrub the walls of the pool and properly adjust the chemicals to remove the ‘slimy’ feeling of the water caused by suntan lotion. People were writing in the dirt on the top of the walls (ewww gross). Reduce the rate as of April 1st. Amenities we paid for, daily Tiki Bar, Bingo, bands, D.J., Arts & Crafts, etc. stopped yet we were charged the same amount. I guess that’s all. We’ll be back in January and are thoroughly looking forward...
Read moreApologize for the long post: Let's just say I love the resort, however, the management is another story...I am writing about a recent incident which occurred during my extended stay at Resort at Canopy Oaks. This is not my first stay as I have been a guest for several years in very good standing. I love the resort and most of the people that work there, however, it is poorly run by the GM and Management staff. In all their advertisement, they call this a "luxury resort" and the conditions of RVs, Campers, have to be in good condition, however that is not true and pictures do not lie. On March 12th, we noticed that the camper next to us was leaking from the holding tanks. I reported this to the GM and said it will be taken care of right away, which didn't happen. Also this camper does not meet the "luxury resort" standards as there is green mold under the bottom of the hangover above the driver's cab, the septic connections were hanging down almost touching the ground. At 9:30 am the next morning the problem had still not been resolved, come to find out this is a "pet" employee and she never said anything to him. I again went to see the GM in her office and after a brief conversation asked if because the problem had not been resolved would the Board of Health need to be notified. She asked if this was me threatening her. I replied, no but because this is a health concern, I would like it taken care of right away. Several hours later, after I notified the Board of Health and employees notified me the residents had been notified of their arrival, the entire site had been cleaned. The woman from the Board of Health called me after her visit and told me she had advised the tenants to put kitty litter to dry up the residue left behind from the leakage. She also told me the tenants had informed her the connections were not secure and so they had secured them and therefore, there were no visible signs of leakage when she was present. The next day, the GM called me to her office. At this time, I was informed even though we had been repeat guests in good standing they would no longer be allowing us to return in 2024. It should be noted at this time, we had paid our deposit for 2024 on February 27, 2023 and I have not been provided with any written notice of the cancellation for my stay in 2024. Also, when asked for the reason I was told it was because "you yelled at me and ruined our reputation". I would like it noted, I did raise my voice because I was upset the issue was not resolved in a timely manner, but I did not yell, nor was I aggressive. I also asked for documentation in writing as to why we would not be allowed to return. She told me she did not have time. Upon our departure, March 16th, the brown/black leakage was back and had turned the kitty litter pile the same color. Also, the condition on the outside of the camper (mold) was still present.
The funny thing is, the leakage is still happening and she had the employee leave the resort with his camper for the week when the new "proposed owners" where visiting. I have also heard that she is now make false allegations against me and my husband, being aggressive, threatening, which is 100% untrue, this women is trying to cover her behind with her upper...
