Sherwood Forest Campground — Hotel in Hillsboro

Sherwood Forest Campground has been a favorite with our family and friends. Due to illness and death of parents last year we were unable to get away. This year we happily packed up and headed to a favorite spot to get away and enjoy some beautiful lake scenery. ||||However, when we got there we found out that all of the lake view sites are now only for long term rentals. The majority of the campground is long term now, with only a handful of camping spots for weekenders. Those spots have no view of the lake, are in the middle of the permanent sites, and quite frankly feel like being in a fish bowl for the long term campers to ogle. ||||While we were there one of the neighboring long term campers pulled a pickup truck on the grassy area near our site, popped the hood and proceeded to do auto repair while drinking and cursing loudly. ||||My husband and I felt like we weren't really wanted. I'm guessing the few sites they had available for weekend rental were only there to keep the legal distinction of "campground" in place. ||||The bathrooms were still nice enough, clean and in good working order, and the grounds were still kept well. Although most of the lawn mowing was by the long term renters who were grooming their own little lawns with flower beds, storage units and pole type "two car garages" for their golf carts.||||We had a pleasant enough weekend, but when we were packed and ready to go we both agreed that it was time to find a new favorite camping spot. It was a sad feeling, but Sherwood Forest just isn't a campground for weekend...

We stayed here during a beautiful fall weekend in late October. Our experience could not have been better.||||The hosts were incredibly welcoming and genuinely glad to help make our weekend as enjoyable as possible. We went during Halloween weekend, so the campground was decked out in fun Halloween lights and decor. It was very obvious they wanted to go the extra mile to make sure everyone had a great time.||||While everyone was having a good time, the hosts do a great job of keeping everything under control. Our neighbors were having a large gathering next to us, but not once were they too loud or boisterous. Everyone was very respectful of each other.||||The best part for us (besides the exceptional cleanliness and maintenance of the grounds) was that there was enough privacy to do our own thing at our site, but we could still visit with our neighbors since everyone was so nice. The long-term renters were the best. We felt like they were hosting us in their own home away from home. We got along so well with many of them, that we are even considering a full-time site for next season.||||I cannot say enough good things about this campground. It's clean, it's inviting, it's in a beautiful location, and the people are just great. We are already counting down the days until we get to go back...

My husband's cousin's have a permanent site at Sherwood Forest along with their daughter and son-in-law|My husband and I had planned on staying in a cabin for a week unfortunately my husband's new job he could not come but I came by myself I'm having a wonderful time the cabin is nice there isn't much to it there's air conditioning electricity obviously it does a front porch Loft and a sort of table no running water but the price is really good and it's really all I need| this is my kind of campin|g it's like a tent that solid so if your a tent camper you have all your supplies you need to bring you have your bed you have your kitchen you have everything so this is the best kind of camping don't have to worry about the rain and you're leaking for being too hot we will definitely come back here again hopefully soon.|They have a bathroom about halfway from from this cabin to where the shower house and bathroom are then they have the shower house and they also have a laundromat which I haven't seen yet the laundromat that is the shower house and the little bathroom which they call Little John are very clean I have to say it's one of the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at...
