Read moreA stay at May River Manor is very much an experience unto itself. We spent a week in Bluffton and Hilton Head to relax and get good sleep before our baby’s arrival later in the year and this hotel by far blew us away. From the moment we arrived, everything about this experience was perfect. The hotel itself is stunning. The owner mentioned to us that he renovated it himself over seven years and the attention to detail and personalized care very much stands out in just how well cared for and beautiful this property is. Every inch is gleaming and pristine and feels very much like a luxury retreat. When I contrast this with the other hotel we stayed at in Hilton Head - a beach front property that, while gleaming in photos and renovated just a few years ago, had chipping furniture that matched its underwhelming service - it stands head and shoulders above anything else. The interior of May River feels pulled straight from a Restoration Hardware or Ethan Allen showroom and our room was a master lesson on comfort and beauty. ||Beyond the aesthetics, the service and comfort during our stay made it feel like the retreat we’d hoped to experience on our baby moon. On arrival, we were welcomed with a delicious and unexpected snack board brought to our room that helped us feel relaxed and cared for from the start. Mornings began with coffee brought straight to our room and a quiet hour of reading with coffee in bed that has become a new wish ritual to start the day. Breakfast you just have to experience for yourself. Accommodations were easily made for foods that I’m avoiding during pregnancy.||A few days of this treatment and poolside relaxation had us feeling better rested from a vacation than we have in years. The staff made every moment memorable and had so many personalized recommendations to enhance our stay. I felt like I didn’t have to think hard or stress over planning at any moment (thanks Meg!). Cannot recommend enough - Very much looking forward to...
Read moreLooking for a hotel east of Savannah, we stumbled upon May River Manor. Spontaneously, we booked it, and it turned out to be the best decision. They do not promise too much on the web site. We even extended our stay. The May River Manor is conveniently located close to many interesting spots in the Lowcountry: Savannah, Hilton Head, different wildlife refuges, golf courses, shopping, and more. Yet, it lies very quietly in the neighborhood of some private communities on its own large piece of land within a forest. At night, it can be totally quiet without any noise inside or outside. The house is a marvel, renovated over several years by the owner. One can simply sit somewhere and admire all the affectionate and skillfully restored details. At the same time, the electrical and digital infrastructure of the house is modern. The five rooms are all different in size and furniture, offering several possibilities for guests. All rooms have access to the front or back porch with comfortable seating. The community room downstairs is a hall with an open kitchen and several cozy seating areas. The breakfast is prepared by a chef who not only offers interesting and delicious combinations but also prepares what you want. Soft drinks and water are complimentary, as well as snacks and beverages in the late afternoon. The garden is large and features a reasonably sized pool with another set of comfortable seats and loungers, tastefully combined. The staff is very welcoming, responsive, and friendly. They treat you as a house guest, giving recommendations and assisting with reservations, etc. It is worth mentioning that this place is brand new, having started in 2024. It is poised to become a highly appreciated travel destination in the...
