I've never given a bad review, as I am usually quick to empathize and understand other perspectives, but this stay had so few wins, that I have to be honest and share my experience.
We stayed in our 5th wheel RV which is almost 45' long, so they get a star for being able to accommodate us. Be warned that the roads are falling apart with very jagged edges and deep potholes. The road signage (ie One-way, street names) is placed for maximum confusion.
The staff are snarky and blameful. This can best be shared by our check in experience, but occured with every staff encounter. After a very awkward check in where I guess I was supposed to read the front desk girls mind and know, by her silent stare, which questions to ask, we were directed to site "C" and it was occupied. No biggie, site "B", next to it, was available. So I called the office to make sure we could take B. The call was sent to an after hours number. While that person was helpful in calling the front desk, he made it clear that I shouldn't have called him during business hours.
The front desk called us back and would not let us have site B, stating it was booked. Instead, we were sent down to site X on the same row, with staff claiming it had 50 amp, so they moved us. We didn't ask for 50, but thanks!
Site X did not have 50 amp, and theres a notice on the post at one of the two 30 amp outlets: open ground. Do NOT use!!! The site was very awkward to get into for our size, and there was no sky view (as requested in booking,) due to beautiful tree coverage. The trees also gave the bonus treat of ticks crawling on all of our outdoor surfaces.
Since we didn't get a site with sky-view for starlink which we need for work, we purchased access to the campground wifi ($35). The speeds and connection are abysmal- could not load a webpage.
The lake is quite large, and long-term sites block the shoreline everywhere but the main beach which was a 5 minute drive from our site. Normally, we would suggest riding a bike to the beach, but the campground has long, steep hills and fast vehicles.
Boat rentals are available, but only during the hottest part of the day. They have a water obstacle course that is only open during the weekend (its mid-August)
The pool and lounge furniture are very nice and there are no shade structures. The campground has extensive trails, all closed until further notice.
Oh, and if you've read this far, I can tell you site B was occupied for 2 nites and the trailer would have easily fit...
Read moreThis place stinks. Never coming back here again. 1) No pool for hot days. Playgrounds old and sparse. We did see the new pool being built (positive direction). 2) Afterhours packet we received on our night we arrived gave us no handwritten directions on the map. No clue where RV spot "Lake 3" is on map. There were three sites names "3" all near a lake. "Area 1 & 2", "Phase 1, 2, 3" on map but nothing "Lake Site 3". We drove to all three sites name "3" according to the large map at the front gate and the map given to us, taking us down the treacherous rutted roads. Roads are dangerous for large 5th wheelers. Lots of uneven deep pot holes and rain water divots, huge hills, DANGEROUS! Map is super old, labeled "KOA". Or bare minimum, a staffer couldn't take 5 seconds to draw the path?! 3) We had called ahead to inquire if an envelope could be received at Natchez Trace, they said yes, for $2 each. The main entrance sign on the door says open from 8am-5pm, Mon-Thurs. No one was there at 8am or 9am. Finally at 10am was someone showed up at the main entrance building. While I waited the 2 hours for someone to arrive, a nice maintenance guy told me I could pick up my mail at the business office nearby the main entrance. I spoke with a female manager who was very upset when I asked for mail. I also told about the confusing arrival and she was disinterested. She angerly apologized about the mail but was pissed toward me like it was my fault. The male maintenance guys saved me a lot of headaches and overall they were best staff there. Not the females including the front desk staff and management. I did buy propane with zero issues, which was the only thing that was nice the whole stay. Wow.4) They give "security" codes to the park but the gates are open 24/7. They also have spike strips for opposite direction. Is the park TRYING to damage rigs? Rough park! Yes? 5)Zero cell reception. Left two days early and stayed at a cracker barrel in KY just to get away....
Read moreThis was my first Thousand Trails campground that i had the misfortune of staying in. I camped in the "Phase 2" section (site 106-B) in which i was very disappointed at the camp sites, my first impression coming into the Phase 2 section was met with very unappealing camp sites that were very trashy in appearance. I will list the Pro's and con's of what i experienced.... Pro's The Ranger station staff was very helpful and Friendly The Restrooms, Showers and Laundry facilities were kept clean (Very Dated) The Grounds for the most part were kept free of litter debris
Con's 1.Annual Sites were allowed to have Car ports over their trailers along with with vast amounts of Yard ornaments, Shelters, Yard chairs, tables, Decks, Off-road Vehicles just to name a few!! My Particular site was missing the Grill in which i only ha a rusted steel post The sites in the full hook-up section are very close together which didn't allow for a very enjoyable experience. I was embarrassed to have visitors come see me at this campground! Once i had my Trailer parked my fire pit was under the back end of my camper (33ft. 5th wheel) Campers on each side of me had to move to other sites due to electrical difficulties at their sites 6.Spoke with other Campers about their experiences here to get an unbiased opinion and all conveyed their disappointments with this Campground and all informed me that they would not visit here in the future Some annual campers leave the portable shelters up all year which end up being torn, destroyed by wind and other environmental elements and left for all to see while walking the park. **There are many other discrepancies i could list but i think i got my point across. I am assured by other thousand trail member that this campground doesn't represent most thousand trail campgrounds, that i shouldn't base my decision to rejoin this organization on...
