I stayed at the Shiny Motel for 4 nights at the end of July 2022 so I could attend a wedding. I was driving a long distance and called to make sure they could accommodate my possible late arrival. Both owners were very nice. The memory foam mattresses and pillows were very comfortable. There are fans in the window and a portable A/C unit in the the room. I had a small fridge with a freezer, a microwave and coffee maker. I had car battery trouble on the morning I was leaving and the owner was out to walk her dog. Her husband helped get my car started and get me on my way. The main roadway was under construction - so there was not as much traffic as there could have been. This may be a problem during the high traffic tourist seasons. The complex is pet friendly - so there may be a little noise at times from pets getting to know each other. Not a LOT of parking - but I was able to find a spot each night. There is a free shave ice dispenser outside of the front office.

Bottom line - clean towels, clean sheets, comfortable bed and...
Read moreI got back from a 3 week trip across the country in an suv a few days ago. I had an appointment in Hoquiam, which is a beautiful little town, and decided to stay in a motel to get some better rest after driving all those days in a row. I chose the Shiny Motel and I'm glad that I did. I will stay there again the next time I return to the area. I arrived later in the evening in heavy rain, but the proprietor was there to greet me and helped me to my room. She was so kind, and when I checked out we had a talk that meant a lot to me, that I will cherish.
As far as the room goes the windows open if you like, the heat took a bit to turn on but was very toasty (I even turned it down after a while). There was a little coffeepot, fridge, microwave, tv. They had some soap in the shower if you needed. The tables next to the bed had charging connections, which I found very helpful. The bed was more hard than plush, but I got a great night of sleep on it. Everything was clean and the parking lot has a stunning view of the forest. It felt cozy and safe. My only issue really was struggling with using the key card fob on the door, but I'm sure it was user error more than anything.
Thank you for a lovely stay at your motel, I hope that you have many happy years there, and that everyone who comes to stay feels just a bit better after visiting, like I got...
Read moreThey gave us grief for having a cat. Booking through Expedia it said they were pet friendly. They switched us rooms because of this after checking into the first room.
The room we ended up staying in was definitely a dog room. Smelt like dog, dirty floor and walls. Bathroom worked fine, but was put together very poorly and was a mess as a result. The first room was much nicer (by no means anything special, but smelt nice, and appeared much cleaner). They charged us $30 extra for having a pet (they said this was standard for anyone with a pet) and wanted it in cash... I made sure to get a receipt for that before leaving.
They seemed very concerned that our cat made messes in there (which I understand, but not any more than a dog). We did get our deposit back, so they obviously didn't find anything, though I'm sure they looked very closely.
We had neighbors that were constantly smoking, and our room (not sure about the others) only had a window fan for cooling (stayed the middle of July), which was a bad mix for us. Not the fault of the motel, for sure, but it would have been nice if there was a restriction of smoking right outside our door (literally).
Overall, it was a place to stay for two nights. I guess you get what you pay for. However, being charged $90/night in the end, I would have expected a...
