I feel that we all agree our world is trying to find our footing again. An effort to get beyond a period of time that drove us into difficult, dark and lonely corners. We’re getting there…but it’s taking time. As a psychotherapist, I see this first hand. People eager to reconnect, but not exactly sure what the first step might be. I can tell you about one of my first steps. I discovered the Three Points Ranch. Just a few songs outside of Austin, this unique Texas gem has been hand crafted by a very dedicated and special Texan family.
I have personally rented this amazing spot twice and have attended two other retreats. Each time I arrive a bit overwhelmed, tired and convinced it’s all about me. And I’ve left every time feeling truly calm, deeply rested and reminded that my connections with others is what makes life colorful and valuable.
You suddenly notice that iPhones disappear. That people are looking you in the eye, patting you on the back as they pass. And you compete with the sounds of nature as you enjoy ‘real’ conversations. You laugh and tease one another after cleaning up from an amazing meal that you and your friends have created and devoured. It’s humans being humans. At our best.
There’s a majestic 700 year old Oak tree about a ten minute walk from the main camp…named Eleven Oaks. (One Oak tree with eleven different trunks/arms). I headed up there one morning with a close friend. Coffee in hand, we sat on a bench under this awe inspiring tree. We shared pleasantries, but then realized it was time to have a difficult conversation that we’d conveniently avoided for a few years. The details are private, but the results are to be shared. We went for it. We confronted a problem that was driving us apart. We shared, challenged, cried and eventually laughed. We hugged. Like a wave knocking over a sand castle, the years of pain, fear and misunderstanding dissolved.
Call me ‘wu-wu’ but I’m certain we were just the latest people to find a way to navigate the struggles of being human. Native people had been settling their differences under that tree for 100’s of years. There’s no doubt. That spot is special. You feel it. We returned to camp different. We returned better. We returned understood.
I was born in Texas, in 1969. I’ve seen damn near every corner of this state. But this corner possesses an energy that is helping people reconnect and find that emotional footing that eroded a few years ago. Grab a group of people you need to reconnect with (you know who they are) book a few days at the Three Points Ranch and see what happens. Trust me! With much love, respect and...

The booking experience was so smooth ,correspondence was easy, clear, and delightful. As our trip got closer, we received a thoughtful series of emails to set us up for success with details on how to get there, what to bring, and fun things to do nearby.
When we arrived, the land did not disappoint. The oaks, the wildlife, the barn, the airstreams, and the covered porch—all perfectly curated for a rustic yet elevated experience. The kitchen was fully equipped and had everything our chef needed to prepare meals for a large group of women.
Michelle and Sally were an absolute gift to work with,so kind and accommodating. I can’t recommend TPR enough! And the sleeping porch…YOU MUST sleep on the sleeping porch. The linens and beds were high quality, making it an unforgettable experience.
This land is truly magical. Thank you for having us!
During our stay, we also enjoyed day trips to Longhorn Caverns and Krause Springs—both fairly close and such a treat to explore. Coming from Houston, this place feels almost like...
Read moreWant to feel like you’re living out in the wide-open spaces of the Texas Hill County and have all the comforts of home at your fingertips? Three Points Ranch is the place to be! We very much enjoyed the Pavilion and I snuck in a few refreshing outdoor showers, which are not to be missed on spicy hot Texas days. The kitchen is well-appointed and truly has everything you need for simple to lavish meals. There’s also tons of cold storage space with a commercial fridge. The family has owned the acreage for decades and they care deeply about the land, its animals and of course, all who visit. They are very ecologically minded and take a lot of care to recycle, which I really respect. They cater to groups,...
