My husband booked this bed and breakfast based on the many glowing reviews, but our experience was the complete opposite — to the point that we truly question the authenticity of the ratings.
From the moment we arrived, the property gave off a terrible odor that made it hard to breathe. There was no staff present, and the only way to enter was through a Ring doorbell and door code system. After nearly 10 minutes of confusion, a gentleman finally came from around the side of the building. Instead of offering a warm welcome, he was abrupt and insisted we should have received a code via email (we never did). He reluctantly let us in, but the lobby smelled as though the property hadn’t been used in years.
When we reached our room, we were met with an even stronger odor of mothballs. It was overwhelming and unbearable. We didn’t even set our bags down before walking back outside to look for help. After some time, the same gentleman reappeared, and we kindly explained that the odor was too strong for us to stay. He offered no assistance, only saying that he couldn’t help us, despite clearly knowing that we never occupied the room.
Overall, this was one of the most disappointing lodging experiences we’ve ever had. Between the lack of hospitality, the terrible conditions, and the overpowering smells, I cannot understand how this property has received so many 4 & 5-star reviews. I would not recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone. Sadly, they also refused to refund & said that they did not know that we left which is NOT TRUE. We happily booked another property and had none of these issues. Do yourself a favor and book The Waters...
Read moreI was looking for a restful getaway for a few days, and after much research, I chose the Hilltop Manor.
The building itself is beautifully restored. I've never seen a historic home that was more carefully converted to a commercial space. Almost everything is original, including huge stone fireplaces, giant pocket doors, intricate hardwood floors, and craftsman light fixtures. The grounds are meticulously kept and very walkable. I lit a fire in the outdoor fireplace my first night. There is also a huge fireplace in the great room, and I had one in my room as well.
The breakfasts are elegant and delicious. I generally didn't actually eat lunch, because the breakfasts were so big. I ate my breakfasts on the huge front patio, overlooking the gardens, which was one of my favorite parts of the day.
I reserved the Sycamore Suite, which I recommend for anyone who wants to relax. The jacuzzi tub is literally a foot from the giant, historic stone fireplace, and the bed was large and very comfortable.
Finally, the hosts are just lovely people. They were remarkably welcoming. They recommended great sites and restaurants, and Joanna actually wrote down the name of the Pandora station that was playing in the great room, because I liked it so much, and handed it to me on the way out the door.
I don't generally spend much money on lodging, but I am so glad I spent the money for three nights at the Hill Top Manor. Three nights here did me a...
Read moreThis was a surprise weekend getaway for my wife and I can't tell you how happy I am I chose Hilltop Manor! Jennifer and Joanna truly have created a beautiful experience and are incredibly helpful with planning the trip, extras and even a late night visit to help us figure out the gas fireplace 🤦♂️🤣
We stayed in the Oak suite and man it was a beautiful room and incredibly spacious. I had opted to add on champagne and a personalized cake for my wife and both were ready and presented beautifully when we arrived. The fireplace in the room was amazing and my wife spent lots of time curled up on the chase lounge in front of it. The room also had a jacuzzi tub which we enjoyed and a HUGE walk in shower.
Now for the breakfast.......Joanna is a master in the kitchen. Every meal we had was different for the 4 days we were there and each were fantastic and very generous in portion. They also offer to pack up a to go breakfast if you have plans that day. We enjoyed our breakfast on the front porch overlooking their fountain and waterfall and my wife can't stop talking about it. Joanna also helped me plan a picnic for my wife and packed us a delectable charcuterie board complete with a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, assorted meats and cheeses and a fruit tray.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful and if you are looking for a romantic serene getaway look no further! I highly recommend Hilltop and we will definitely...
