I am going to give a fairly critical review, so I am aware certain aspects are a little more nit-picky. I camped here as a child with my family for years. I was very excited to stay with my own family and show them where I loved to spend my summers.
I rented an 8-person deluxe cabin. It states it has cookware and kitchen, bathroom, living space with pull out, and two bedrooms (queen bed and then four bunks). I will start with our cabin review: Our cabin was overall okay. There are things that I expect, especially with COVID, that are being done in addition to general upkeep. The banister was loose on our deck. We did not have a screen for our sliding door (there's a track), and I will spare the photo of the dead bird hanging from our outdoor light that my kiddos found. The windows all appear to work well, but certain blinds are broken and they are absolutely filthy. A quick wipe down I don't think is too difficult. There is a floor vent for the AC in the living room (AC is awesome), but there are broken prongs on it and you could easily step into it or cut yourself up pretty good. It's not hidden- it's in the middle of the room (literally). Our TV is nixe- it had Roku too, but the channels didn't work as it looks like the satellite is broken outside (stick in half with it pointed at the ground). You have to pay for internet. Not a big deal, but fyi. Lots of storage space in the master, but BOY. Is this bed awful. It's definitely more of a double bed, and it's really uncomfortable. There's like four outlet options in the master which is nice. Bunk space is decent, only two drawers for four beds. There is not a lot of head space for the top bunks. There are no outlets in the bunk room. None of the windows have a curtain rod or curtains, although they have the curtain rod mounting hooks, so I thought that was odd. Bathroom is small, but not unexpected for a cabin. The shower head is short- so anyone over 5'5" is bending for sure. The hot water lasts about 1.5 showers, which was not great considering it's an 8-person cabin. It had a really musty smell the entire time. The counter space is pretty good in the kitchen. Big fridge. The stove is two pot deal, but the knobs were like melted and you have to use a lighter to light it (said it's in drawer, but thankfully we have our own since it wasn't there). The vent hood is absolutely disgusting. Don't look under it unless you want nightmares. Mold and more mold. Sink didn't stay stopped to wash dishes, so thankfully I had my wash bin that I could use. No stove in these units. Microwave looked clean and worked well. The coffee pot was really grimey. I rewashed everything and sanitized everything anyways due to COVID, but I like had to really wash it. The inside wasn't great, either. Super slow at brewing, too. There's a toaster- we didn't use it. Lots of cups, mugs, four bowls, small plates, and 12 plastic cups. Lots of silverware. Awful cookware. No prongs or spatulas, knives werent great. No peeler. Had hot pads and a can opener. There are two pots, a strainer, a pretty gross cutting board, some stirring utensils, and a couple of mixing bowls. They provide paper towels and TP which is nice, and there was dish soap. I brought our own hand soap. We didn't try the sleeper bed, and there's a four person table with two folding chairs in the master to pull out I assume.
The pool was disgusting. It was already quiet here for the last three days, but the pool was brown/green and no one in it. Ever. I remember water (and have photos) of it being blue. So where is the CPO? I definitely did not go near it. Another review said the pool was down there weeks ago- I think it still is. Didn't see any water circulation... gross.
Man the beach was EXCELLENT. The water is clean and clear, the beach is nice, and they added those comfortable chairs for use down there (which I definitely pulled into the water to relax). We loved the beach. Then there's the weird sewage small wafts through the resort. It comes and goes. Oof.
Overall it was okay. We might try again...
Read moreMy wife and checked into Twin Mills Indiana on 6.15.2022. We were given a site of W5 by the office staff and proceeded to the site. Upon arrival we noticed the site is unacceptably un level for such a long 5th wheel Rv as our RV is 40 ft long, and I believed the site would be insufficient in grade to accommodate us. We both complained to a young lady and an older man who identified themselves as staff of the camp ground, which the older man later admitted to be a maintenance worker and not office staff. The campground staff was extremely unwilling to offer any sort of help or remedy to the situation so my wife and I along with our 7 month old and 2 year old decided to try to put the RV in W4 knowing it would not work. I tried to level the RV 4 times unsuccessfully. The heat index was well over 100 degrees, with my family in the sun while I tried to get set up. I then proceeded to go back to the office to try and request a different site as I was unsuccessful at leveling. No one in the office seemed to care that I was having any issues and still would not offer any help. I felt my health was taking a turn and asked the young lady behind the desk to please call the fire department or EMS as I feel I was going to be a heat casualty and may pass out. The young lady proceeded to go to the assistant manager of the office and asked her, who she should call. There was no urgency by the staff to get me help at this point. I had feel I was starting to lose consciousness so the tone of my voice was more stern to which the assistant manager told me to to get into my truck and go back to my camper as she took this as threatening. I noticed this would be an absolute terrible thing to do as someone in as serious a condition as I was experiencing would likely cause more damage to property or lives if I had headed her directions. I then told her to get me some expletive help FAST as I have was having trouble breathing. She then took great offense of my expletive verbiage and said she was kicking me out of the campground and threatened to call the police. I replied to please call the police. I heard Bob again in the office talking to the dispatcher saying I was threating and aggressive and assaulting people, all of which are fabricated by him. Lastly I hear Bob say I had claimed to be a veteran. I am a 100% Disabled American Veteran with the US Army serving two combat tours to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division. Finally the Sheriffs showed up and found me on the brink of a serious heat related condition to which the immediately notified the local EMS to help. No one from the staff called medical help for me. The negligence and incompetence and terrible service of this office staff place my life directly in danger. My family and I were in very serious danger due to the heat exposure I endured by a situation the staff created and refused to try and rectify at all. The absolute neglect I felt not only as a human but as a disabled veteran will be at the fore front of my experiences with this Thousand Trails Campground. We are Adventure members, and have had pleasant experiences with the system to this point. The complacency and irresponsible actions of this staff worry me that someone else that did not have the training I had to notice the urgency of the situation could be exposed to a potentially deadly incident and will continue to discuss internally what our next action will be with the campground. I HAVE STILL NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY ANYONE FROM THOUSAND TRAILS or CORPORATE ABOUT...
Read moreAll in all, a decent place. The property is on the larger side of the spectrum. One drawback is the property straddles a state highway where the speed limit is 55. If you are on the south side of the highway, you will have to cross to get to the office, camp store, pool, laundry, beach and fishing pond. I witnessed a very stressed out mother scolding her 6ish year old daughter for crossing unattended. The girl was understandably crying. A family with children might want to consider this fact when reserving a site. There are many seasonal sites, so you get the "seasonal culture" that comes along with it. Not a bad thing, but just something that the travellers understand. The golf cart parades were nice. The seasonal campers were the most prepared with the candy. It is always a hit with the kids. Golf carts are allowed as long as you provide proof of insurance. The sites are large enough. I do agree with the other reviews that the groundskeeping in general is somewhat lacking. Our fire pit was full of trash. Many of the vacant sites that I passed had fire pits with trash in them. We're talking liquor bottles, plastics and uneaten food. The weeds around the trees were very high. Most sites are level. Only when you get to the extreme north and south ends of the property does it get hilly. Many of those are taken by the seasonal folk. I did notice in our particular area with full hook up sites, they took the 20 amp outlets out of the pedestals and left the breakers. As such, if you do not have an 30 amp RV plug, you will need to adapt it down. There is some tight maneuvering in some areas, but for the most part, many large rigs use this place.
The pool is heated. The heater is right near the entrance of the park. It appeared to be new this season. Every time I went past it, I could hear it running. The pool however, is very small. For a property this size, it is somewhat of a joke. Our party avoided it as is was just too small for the crowd.
The booking service they use is very professional and polite, However the lady I spoke to did not seem to understand the layout. So, if you are trying to get a specific site, have the site map handy.
The shower facilities were clean every time I visited them. But truth be told, the place wasn't very busy. And yes the timed faucets are a shame. The water quality did not appear bad at all. I have definitely seen worse.
There were several playgrounds throughout the park. All of them were different from one another. Some of the equipment was really old. I saw nothing that appeared to be dangerous due to disrepair.
Again, not a bad place. There is some tweaking that would help make this place better and safer, but I...
