I wasn’t going to write a review for this place but after reading the owner’s response on airbnb, I felt the need to explain our experience.
The location is excellent. It’s secluded and in a beautiful location in Arkansas. It’s close to Whitaker Point and many other hiking trails and when we were looking on airbnb for places to stay near Whitaker Point, this place was it. We messaged the lady on airbnb and got prompt response about our questions. She also asked us if we’d like breakfast and if we’re allergic to anything. Super thoughtful and we were very excited to have a weekend stay!
Once we got there and met with her, she gave us a quick tour of the place. Immediately when we entered the lodge, there was a musky smell. I looked up and apparently it’s due to mold that wooden cabins often get when left unmaintained. In the airbnb response, she disregarded this by saying that the smell is from “the clogged toilet we left behind” but ill get to that later.
The furniture was dusty and when she showed us our room, she pointed out that there’s a wasp that somehow made it into the room. She went and grabbed a fly swatter and asked us to go downstairs while she kills it. She came down and told us she couldn’t get the wasp and left us with the fly swatter to kill a giant wasp. We legit spent 20 minutes of our time after she left finding and eventually killing the wasp. We’re young professionals in our mid 20s so maybe our expectations were too high, but i dont think any place should leave their guests to deal with giant stabbing insects.
She had informed us that there was gonna be a couple who would be staying at one of the other rooms in the lodge so we weren’t surprised when they showed up. We had plans to go see Whitaker Point the next morning at 4 am so we went to sleep around 9 pm. We got woken up at midnight with the other guests being obnoxiously loud and having s*x. We could hear everything and couldn't fall back asleep. Our phones didn't have network so we panicked a little about sharing a place with drunk people we’ve never met before being noisy at 1 in the morning now.
Due to the slight anxiety, we used the restroom and to add to the already frustrating situation, the toilet was clogged. 1 am for a clogged toilet probably isn’t a good reason to call the owner, don’t you think? THAT’S why we didn't call.
The noise from the couple wouldn't stop so we quickly packed and left the place at 2 am, drove an hour to Fayetteville and got a hotel room for that night (Friday night going into Saturday morning) till Sunday morning (when we’d travel back home). We went back to the lodge around noon on Saturday, picked up everything we had left in a hurry the night before, and never came back to the lodge. Despite having the stay paid for from Friday till Sunday. (Oh btw, when we came back to pick up rest of our stuff, there was another wasp just chilling in the room.)
I realize the noisy guests wasnt the owner’s fault but the fact that she was so rude in her airbnb response, i needed others to see this too.
I took pictures of how dusty the place was, the number of dead wasps under the bed and the bathroom, and even voice recorded the noise from the other guests in case we need proof when we want to put a request for 1 night refund (because, again, we didn’t even stay at the lodge for longer than a few hours). We were so frustrated that we didn’t wanna deal with the refund process which, i feel, was very well justified.
So please, take reviews from your guests as constructive criticism and dont try to defend yourself when you can actually work on making the stay better for your guests.
I will not be coming back and do not recommend anyone to deal with the smell, dust, and dead/live wasps when it was meant to be a relaxing getaway. UNLESS this is taken in a positive way and they fix...
Read moreMy husband and I recently came here on an anniversary trip. We stayed at the Beauty Bed & Breakfast. It is a multi-level lodge/ log cabin with a nice walk around porch. I would describe the interior style as Victorian eclectic.
The Good: There is a nice little trail on the property that we enjoyed that leads to a waterfall. The breakfast was good, about the quality you would receive at a nice continental hotel breakfast, but with good service. The wait staff was very nice. Our bedroom was quite lovely looking. There was also candy all over the place set out in bowls, which was a nice welcome.
The Bad: One of the reasons we chose the room we did was that we wanted to enjoy the 2-person jacuzzi tub. We were the only people staying at the time, so there should have been plenty hot water, but it didn’t even fill up a few inches before it was completely cold water running out the faucet. We called the main office and received little help (and even a bit of snark, as I was corrected that “it isn’t a hot tub, it’s a jacuzzi tub”), and ended up doing what we could to try to fix the issue, to no avail. If you take the time it took to contact the main office, attempting to figure out what was wrong and try to fix it, testing the water, and, this is almost embarrassing, resorting to boiling water in pots to pour into it because after all this, we were going to have our jacuzzi bath, we spent probably over 2 hours of our vacation time dealing with the issue. After all that work, it was pretty anticlimactic and not relaxing.
The staff said that they have received complaints about the hot water before, but when they test it, it works, and that it might be a breaker issue. I think if they would test trying to fill up a tub to the level they would bathe in, they would see the problem, and I think it’s a hot water heater issue.
We were given a discount for the inconvenience, so I am thankful for that.
Other than that, the only other thing I would say is that it could have been cleaner. Particularly the tub, floorboards, ceiling beams, etc. The bed looked clean though so I felt...
Read moreThere were seven of us senior citizens who stayed in this beautiful lodge at the beginning of November 2022. We stayed at this location because it is near Wilderness Rider Buffalo Ranch where we rented a 6 seated UTV for two half days. It was a short distance to the ranch. The lodge was well-equipped and very clean. We counted over 80 pieces of artwork that adorned the lodge. The kitchen was well-stocked and appliances worked well. There is not a washer/dryer, but the owner offered to wash any clothes we needed to have laundered. We did not have to impose on her. I normally would not have rented a lodge with so many stairs, but it was definitely worth the slight inconvenience. There are many stairs to enter the lodge and stairs up and down different levels within the lodge. Beds were very comfortable. I slept on the pull-out couch by the kitchen area - very comfortable. The master bathroom is good sized, but the other two are quite small. We had plenty of parking for three vehicles, and dropped our one UTV trailer at the parking area designated for trailers. The furnace worked well and kept us comfortable. We didn't light up either fireplace. My only recommendation would be some updates in the bathrooms such as shower heads and toilet seats. Otherwise, it was a totally awesome experience!! There is beautiful scenery all around including a waterfall. There is a lot of outdoor seating to enjoy the spectacular nature. It is definitely worth the winding drive to eat at Ozark Cafe at Jasper. We also enjoyed the food at Kingston Station. I would highly recommend this lodge! Just be aware, there is...
