Been here a few times and every time has always been a blast! This time we rented a cabin. Basic cabin, with covered mattresses that sleeps up to 12 I believe. Bring your pillow and bedding! Cabins have electricity, AC and Heat. There is a full size fridge and freezer as well, no water but we made it work. Microwave is also included. Private Portapotty right beside each cabin that was stocked well. The cabins are spaced out which provided plenty of parking and are located off in a corner behind the office. There is a bath house just up the hill and was nicely stocked with soap, paper towels and toilet paper. The park was very clean and there are trash cans along with portapottys on the main trail. Good size park with an app that includes the map which is helpful, if you have cell signal. Recommend taking a screen shot of the entire map to have on hand. A paper map would be awesome to have as well. There is a mini store there onsite as well. One of the best features of the park is the radiator wash out station. It is very hidden but best land mark is just a little left about 25 feet from the electrical post and breaker panel. There is a PVC pipe sticking up about 5’ above the ground with a faucet there. Lucky there was a hose there but the end was cut off. Probably won’t be a bad idea to bring your own hose and sprayer for backup. Trails are awesome and you will get lost often but that’s the fun part! When you see the big main trail, signs are posted with...
Read moreHaven’t been to General Sams in a couple years. Well not since the new owners. Despite a disagreement with them online over discriminatory charges for campers vs tents, we decided to give them another shot and go for a day trip. The day was fun and the trails were mostly passable, but could have used a little attention from the recent rains washing out some places making some of the trails impassable. The old charges to ride used to be a lot more friendly as well. $10 atv $10 driver $5 passenger. Or quite simply $25 a day per couple. Now it’s $20 ea so a $15 a day increase with no additional area to ride or added amenities to justify it. 10 RV sites have been added but there twice the price as before also. The old rate was $25 a night for full hook ups. Now $35 a night full hook ups, $30 for water power only. That’s what they advertise but once you get online to book one there’s additional fees and taxes and even additional charges to guarantee you get that exact site, why would I chose and pay for # 19 if 16 would be ok. Long story short a weekend for 2 with a site went from around $110 to something like almost $200. Not worth all that extra money. It’s kind of sad really. This is perfect mudding weather, nice and wet but not too cold. They were nearly empty. Less than 1/4 of the RV sites in use, only saw a half dozen camp sites. This place was always packed before. #CANYOUSELLITBACK...
Read moreI would give more stars IF the "well stocked general store" were open. Not only is it Disappointing to load all my junk and go into Huntsville to get food then come back, it's time consuming. I wasn't expecting the weather to turn around and have as much fun as I am, and so I didn't bring anything but my cooler full of Docta Peppa and Mean Bean . I usually keep a bug out bag with me(3 days of food inside) but not today obviously!!
Other than the store being closed this park is really fun and family friendly. Some trails are kid friendly and others are challenging even for a seasoned vet such as myself, the creek riding is always fun no matter where you go.
The park is considerably smaller than the border town / river border park I usually ride but I can still have a blast here, being smaller has its advantages though; you're never far from something or someone that can lend a hand or point you in the correct direction.
3/5 stars from this guy, I will be back...hopefully there will be much needed brisket or something to sustain ourselves until Whataburger on the...
