I was so happy to have found The Sanctuary on Huron River. I’ve stayed at several B&Bs, but none compare to this one. Dora and Ed, the owners, are the sweetest couple. They welcomed us with a delicious charcuterie board upon our arrival and sat and talked with us, which was very entertaining. Dora has an amazing history and held my attention every time we spoke. I visited in January 2024, which limited my being able to enjoy the river or the activities they offer on their grounds, but my visit was so enjoyable. Breakfast was like eating at a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ restaurant. Dora is a well trained cook and served my husband and me a 5 course meal. I was full for pretty much the whole day. She is accommodating to serve breakfast whenever it suits you. She uses only the freshest fruit, even in winter, along with mock mimosas and fresh squeezed orange juice, Salmon, shrimp, vegetables, pancakes, bacon plus more with everything served in such an appealing presentation. The beds are very comfortable, the bathroom is shared with any others that may be staying there, but that was never a problem while we were there. The main living room was open to us at anytime. The Sanctuary on Huron River is not your typical B&B, while Dora and Ed sleep in their finished basement, you are still offered the privacy of a typical Bed & Breakfast. However, any amount of time you can spend with Dora is a pleasure. I can’t say enough about this special place along the Huron River. Bird watching from the expansive windows in the dining room, the cleanliness of the business, the proximity to so many venues and all that is offered in the downriver area. Your first visit here will make you want to schedule your next trip, just so you’re sure to get a room. Every visit we make to Michigan will find us staying at The Sanctuary on Huron River. Thank you Dora and Ed for your amazing hospitality, your love of God and the friendship I feel we’ve created after only one stay. Cheers to our next...
Read moreWords cannot describe the incredible experience my husband and I encountered when we set foot on The Sanctuary of Huron River! It was two days of pure PEACE and SERENITY! The kindness extended toward us was nothing but par excellence in every way. The accommodations exceeded our expectations. Our private bedroom was beautifully decorated, the bed was nice and comfy, and we were surprised with an overflowing welcome basket filled with goodies in case we wanted to snack. We arrived late in the day; however, Mama Dora, "as the host is called," kindly asked if we were hungry, and before we could reply, she had prepared a meal for a king. We woke up the following day and decided to explore the grounds, and there I found a magical kingdom. Being a city girl and used to the hustle and bustle of city life, it was a pleasant surprise to walk through her perfectly manicured forest and bask in the peace and quietness. I learned all about different species of birds, saw small wildlife, and even took a nap in the woods. They treated us like Royalty at each meal. The table was beautifully set, the food was deliciously prepared, and everything was perfect. Dora and Ed are excellent hosts and were very attentive to our needs. While Ed and hubby explored the lands, which "by the way" has a boat dock and you can stand on the shore and fish, Dora and I would sit and have deep, thought-provoking conversations on life. It was hard to leave the surrounding peace, quietness, and beauty. All I can say is "I can't wait to visit again"! I call this place my "home away from home". See you soon Mama...
Read moreI visited The Sanctuary Bed and Breakfast on Huron River in Flat Rock,MI, for a 6 day stay. Dora and Ed were the perfect hosts, very accommodating and detail oriented. Dora is a gourmet chef and her breakfasts were exceptional, served on fine china, mocktail mimosas, and everything imaginable. She respects dietary restrictions, and only serves the very best fresh ingredients, to include fruits and vegetables, which are purchased locally. It is a pleasure to have breakfast and watch the many variety of birds that flock to the feeders that Ed has placed outside for guests viewing. You will see red squirrels and babies, bunnies, deer, etc. on their 5-acres which is beautifully manicured. There is also access to Huron River and you can enjoy that view as well. This B&B provides a peaceful setting and is ideal to decompress from the hectic lifestyle. For those of you that may need handicap assistance, there is a riser on the toilet, and other provisions. You cannot go wrong with your stay here and I plan on returning for...
