When my husband and I arrived at Elk Refuge Inn we found out they were not pet friendly. We did not know this before hand and happened to have our dog with us. At check in we were told if we were to bring the dog in our room and violate their rules they would charge us $500 for pet damage fees. My husband, not knowing what to do, honestly asked the guy at the front desk if he had any ideas of what we could do with our dog and he replied “she could sleep outside”. If you read the agreement form, they actually do not allow pets to sleep outside or in a vehicle unattended. This seemed intentionally dishonest. We decided to try to find a pet sitter in town to watch our dog and were able to find someone using the Rover app. A few days after we left we received an email saying that we were going to be charged the $500 pet damage fee because they found a lot of “pet” hair on their floors. The pictures they sent us were of a little bit of hair on the floor which could have been hair from any previous occupant, or even my hair, and was clearly not our dogs hair. Since we did not violate the agreement and had proof that our pet stayed somewhere else for the night, we felt this was unfair and wanted to speak with the manager to resolve this and show them our proof. We called them but were told that the manager wouldn’t be in till a few days later and they wouldn’t be able to help us till then. We also emailed them our proof that our dog didn’t stay the night there. The emails we received back told us they couldn’t help us and our emails were being forwarded to a different manager. On the day we were told that the manager was supposed to be back in office we called multiple times and when we finally got a hold of someone they said a manager with a different name than the first one would help us the next day. They continued to show that they did not want to help us or communicate. We continued to call multiple times the following day and no one at the reception desk picked up once! We were convinced that they somehow knew it was us calling and were purposefully avoiding us. Since we were unable to get a hold of a manager at Elk Refuge Inn by phone all week, and by email they kept forwarding us to someone else, we decided to file a claim with our credit card to fight the charge. A day after doing that, we got an email back saying they would refund us the money. It is truly not worth staying here because you may be unjustly charged money and will not have adequate customer service to...
Read moreWhen arriving things were ok. The person at the desk was a little sarcastic with us when we asked if we could use a different credit card to pay for the room. We would have been charged more to do that and most hotels we were staying at were perfectly fine with letting us switch the credit card we wanted to use. The room was fine. Carpet was new. Bathroom was pretty small. The screen door had a huge hole in the side where the screen was coming out and also kept coming off track and the patio door wouldn't lock shut. The night was going fine though until there was a huge noise outside. We then lost power and water...and that was at about 11pm. We still didn't have power or water in the morning and the room was very hot and stuffy without a/c. We also had kids with us and using the bathroom was a problem. No one came to tell us anything and there was a sign on the door at the office letting us know that someone was working on the problem. At 8am someone actually showed up to work on the problem...and this was after we checked out and let them know we would not be staying another night. I was expecting a refund of some sort since we were out of power for the majority of the time we were in the room and if so, I would have given a better review. Nothing was offered other than coffee and muffins...from their other hotel. It would have been nice to have been offered a room at that location just so we could get a shower or freshen up. It would have been nice to have been given something for the horrible night that we had. The woman that worked in the morning were very nice and apologetic...but a refund should have been given for our stay. I don't recommend this hotel...stay...
Read moreWe really liked this hotel and loved the room we had. It was a one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, sitting area and a separate bedroom with a nice bathroom. It had an entry foyer and 2 entry doors, although we were asked to only use one of them.|The hotel faces the main street and is across from an Elk Refuge. The street was very noisy and we were a bit concerned that traffic noise would affect our sleep. There are even ear plugs in the bathroom just in case. We found that we didn't have any trouble with noise at all. We did mostly close the bedroom door and that may have helped.|The office staff was lovely and easy to work with.|There is a free laundry available onsite and includes soap and dryer sheets. We wished we had more time to do a load of clothes!|My only criticism of our stay is that our room was at the end of the property and sits out a bit from the rest of the hotel. The office is not easily marked and we had 2 different people come to the front door and try the door, thinking it was the office. It would be good to have better signage telling where the office is.|My other criticism is along the same line. There are beautiful glass windows in the front doors, however you can see into the room if you bend down to look inside and there is no way to cover the windows over. This made us a bit uncomfortable particularly after dark. We were very careful not to leave the bedroom unless we were fully dressed. The windows are beautiful, but maybe putting some kind of coating on the inside of the glass would not allow others to be...
