Honestly, this place is a sustainable hotel for short term (my opinion). we had a beach front balcony. It's very affordable compared to many of the other beach front hotels in jacksonville.
The Good- gorgeous ocean views, it's quiet. They have outdoor seating with a gas grill for patrons to use. The TV in the rooms is equipped with netflix(as long as you have your own login) and live TV. The rooms are spacious for being a hotel room.
The CONS - As far as I saw, there was no direct access to the front desk without first calling. I'm assuming a corporate line, which then would forward your call to the front desk. The phone didn't have a "front desk" option. The water pressure of the shower was no stronger than your outdoor water hose on half power. The mattresses are really firm, and the comforters provided are very thin. You could almost classify it as a regular bed sheet. The parking does get very full on weekends as the beach access is public obviously since it's on a military installation. Their selection of items for purchase at the front desk is minimal, aka orange or apple juice, water, and some pre-packaged food pastries. If you want to buy something, they'll only use the card on file. If you try to pay with a different card, it's almost like they can't do it or refuse to... again, this was our experience. I wouldn't care about the in hotel item purchase options being minimal IF the gas station/NEX on base stayed open later than 3-5 PM. As the nearest store is off base and actually takes some time to get too. Which is inconvenient if you're there at the hotel to relax. The TV as I stated before has options, but it's quite small. Thus us an exaggeration but the elevator take s 5 years to close. Even after pressing the close door button, I don't believe it actually works. The Air conditioner has a funky smell, I think they need to replace the filter, or replace the whole ac unit itself. There is no pool that is attached to the hotel. There is a base pool run by MWR but it's only open, On/after memorial day weekend but again, it's not hotel specific, it's for all military and their families, which is fine! Hopefully they build a pool into the new addition to the hotel under...
Read moreI've had many issues with this hotel. One time we reserved a room, in advance, and when we arrived was told we could not stay because the room we had reserved couldn't accommodate two adults and two children (1yo&newborn). I left furious as we called days in advance and told them how many adults and children their were. The women called back and said they "just" had a cancellation, and booked us. Next day I see a family of FIVE staying in the room we were NOT allowed to stay in. Although the woman booked us, she was very rude and only booked us after I told her I'd be reporting it.
Back to now, my husband just got home from deployment three weeks ago. I'm 38 weeks pregnant and we had to evacuate because of hurricane Irma, since I'm so far along the ship left my husband behind. My husband is a geo bachelor (lives on ship due to I living a few hours away currently), and was called back to work/exam. Since the boat is GONE he tried to get a reservation, watching others bringing luggage into hotel. He called and they said "were not taking any reservations of ANY kind" so he asked why people are bringing their luggage in, as he's in the parking lot, and they say "only for key west evacuees" as she stutters nervously. He explains his situation of driving his family safely home for 36+ hours, and hasn't slept, showered, etc and also evacuated, she asks his name as if there's some type of hope, and just says "yeah sorry, there's nothing I can do I'm not authorized". Okay... why are you asking his name then!?!? What a tease! My poor husband slept in the car, had an exam the next morning, drove his family to safety in all the chaotic traffic for HOURS on end as I'm sure all of us did, and these people can't even work with us!?!?!? We have a baby in four days, and my husbands just exhausted from driving his family all over the state of Florida and Georgia to assure his family is safe. We are trying to PAY to sleep there! Enjoy the...
Read moreWe always love staying here. If you get the second or third floor...it is a beach view. Pet friendly, but you need to bring your dog's shot records. That is a bit dumb, but understandable. You can fish on the beach (only near the jetties), or on the jetties. Bring plenty of tackle for the jetties because you will a lose lot of it, BUT there are some monster fish to be caught. Bait/tackle store is about 1 mile from the base gates. On base bait/tackle store is horrible high price, and only have frozen bait. Get your fishing license off-base.
The Lodge itself is clean and the upkeep is real good. The kitchen units are nice, BUT they only have a SMALL fridge vs most Air Force base lodges have big friges. Only a stove top, so no oven. Microwave is pretty small, but handles most things. The beds are pretty firm and nice pillows. Water pressure/hot water is pretty good too.
Price is a little pricy compare to Air Force lodges, but this one here at Mayport is better than commercial ones off-base for prices. There are a few fast food places nearby and the bowling ally is next door for food and beer. The pool is right in front of the lodge for summertime use and a few bar-b-q grills nearby.
Overall, great place and highly...
