I really wish that I didn’t have to write this review. It still feels unreal that such an expensive and exclusive place that prides themselves in their customer service would do such a terrible thing to us. They ruined our Honeymoon by cancelling our reservation 2 weeks before our reservation date (we had October 2nd to the 6th reserved at one of their New Honeymoon Treehouses,) leaving us with just 2 weeks to plan out an entire honeymoon. To be clear, we booked all the way since February of 2023.
Their team messaged me on Wednesday, September 13th, saying that they had an important message for me and that I should schedule a call with them. I scheduled the call for that Thursday, and spoke to Rebecca, who started off by asking me if I knew that those treehouses are new construction. She then proceeded to tell me about issues they’ve been having with the county about Septic System approval for the treehouses (they don’t have a Certificate of Occupation yet,) and how they wouldn’t be able to honor our reservation. I told her that’s terrible, and how I couldn’t believe that they were just telling me that with just 2 weeks left before the reservation. She said she was sorry but that she had just found out about it yesterday, which makes no sense to me since they’ve been aware of this issue since May, which was the official start date of stays at the New Honeymoon Treehouses. Rebecca confirmed that nobody has indeed been able to stay in them since May, which means that they’ve indeed known about the issue since, and they didn’t even have the decency to let us know with AT LEAST a month in advance about the issue. It’s completely irresponsible that they would do this, especially with how strict they are with their cancellation policies, and if we would’ve tried to cancel with them at that time, they wouldn’t have refunded us our money. How complicated is it to let your PAYING guests know about this with much more time?? How then can they get away with doing that?? We had booked our reservation since February and they had without fail been charging my card, collecting their payment Promptly.
My fiancée and I are extremely upset and are appalled that a company charging this much money for their properties would do such a thing and get away with it. We understand that county approvals are mostly out of their control, but notifying their guests about this with much more time is not, especially when they know that most people booking these are for special occasions. To this date, we haven’t seen any notice on their social media notifying guests about the septic system approval issues, nor of their new honeymoon treehouses not being able to be stayed in. This is terribly irresponsible.
After telling us that they couldn’t honor our reservation, I asked if they had any other properties in their land that were available for our dates, but of course they were all booked out. Thanks for nothing, Bolt Farm. They refunded our money and offered to help us just find other properties around the area (keywords are Just Find; they’re not offering to pay for anything,) and plus, the damage is already done. We had booked your property because we liked it and wanted to stay in it, not another property (which, the ones they sent us weren’t nearly as special for a Honeymoon.)
My fiancée and I will be alright by the grace of God, but we wanted to ensure that this case didn’t go unnoticed. Bolt Farm, please do better.
Sincerely, a Groom and Bride who now need to plan out an entire Honeymoon in 2 weeks on top of the rest of...
Read moreI’m sad to have to write a review like this one, because we REALLY wanted to love this place! And there were some lovely things about our stay – primarily the company, since I was celebrating our 15-year anniversary with my husband. But we cannot say that the $2K+ we paid for a two (weeknight!) stay in November was worth it.
We were willing to splurge because of the special occasion, especially after being assured over the phone that we would be in the most private unit on property, and the amenities would be well worth the cost. We were even told a week before we arrived that we were being “upgraded” from the Original Honeymoon Treehouse we’d booked to one of the New Honeymoon Treehouses. What we still can’t figure out is why we were moved away from the most private area on the property to a construction zone, where a new building was being built directly behind our unit. The sounds of chainsaws were not very relaxing, nor was the crew’s 7 am arrival time. Though the view was beautiful (when we weren’t fogged in), this “upgrade” didn’t feel like one. And based on the costs displayed on their site, our “upgrade” to the new units was actually a downgrade from the original unit. When we asked them about this, their only response was to give us a discount on a future stay. Needless to say, we will not be taking them up on that offer.
Potential guests should also be aware that rainy days can completely obscure the beautiful views, which is something to keep in mind when you’re weighing the costs. One other bummer for us was the housefly situation – the beautiful views from the windows were covered with flies when we arrived, and the wasps buzzing around the room were also disconcerting. We killed more than 40 flies the first morning, but they kept up their invasion throughout our stay, even with the door closed the entire time. When I asked the concierge about them, I got what felt like a condescending reply (“Ah, the one downside to glamping… keeping the outside out!”). This is touted as a “5-star mountaintop wellness resort” on their website — we didn’t realize we were paying $1K a night for glamping!
All in all, I wish I’d done more research on the property – I’d encourage anyone to read all the reviews carefully (there are some doozies), and not just be taken in by their social media posts and drone footage like I was.
There are many beautiful treehouse experiences available on Airbnb, often in more accessible locations for far less than we paid. I wish we’d done more looking around. If you really want a luxury experience, my husband and I absolutely love Canoe Bay Relais & Chateaux. You’ll find so much more than “glamping”: beautiful, truly private accommodations, an excellent onsite restaurant and many more things to do than this “5-star mountaintop wellness resort” offers. Hard pass...
Read moreWe celebrated our 1 year anniversary with Bolt Farm this past weekend. We began seeing posts on social media when we first met and at some point decided that we had to go. We made that a reality and I have zero regrets.
We checked in Friday night and by Saturday afternoon, we already knew we wanted to make this "our place" for our anniversaries in the future. Before we left, we had already reserved our spot for next year.
First, we stayed in the mirror cabins. We got M3 which has an insanely beautiful view of the valley and the town below with a full view of the ridgeline of the mountains behind the town separating it from Chattanooga. The cabin itself was quaint, cozy, and perfect for what we wanted and needed. Each cabin has its own hammock, grill/pizza oven, and hot tub. We also opted for the meals package which was well worth the money. We never had to leave the property for any reason while there. The meals were surprisingly tasty and we enjoyed each of them.
The Welcome Dome experience is very nice. Saturday evening, they hosted a happy hour for all the guests with drinks (the smoked old fashioned was excellent for my whiskey/bourbon people), food, and prizes. They also host bingo and mimosas on Sunday, which we did not attend, but would absolutely do so in the future.
The Wellness Haven is amazing. The hot springs, the dry and steam saunas, the Treehouse Spa, yoga, all here. There is also a cold plunge which neither of us decided to try this stay. We took the yoga class Sunday morning and it was a very nice way to start the day. We relaxed a bit after before our couples massage in the Treehouse Spa. Our team was highly professional and we both left feeling refreshed and relaxed. Will definitely be doing this again next time.
All in all, this place isn't cheap by any stretch, but if you value peace, serenity, and having everything you could need on-site and handled professionally, with incredible location and views, it's worth the splurge 100%. While we were both sad to leave, we will also cherish the memories made and will be looking forward to next visit until it happens. Do yourself a favor and enjoy.
I will say that we were either the youngest or second youngest couple we saw (early-late 30s) but we never felt out of place or like we weren't welcome because we were younger than the rest of the guests by a full decade or more. So, if you're a younger couple, don't worry about it. You will still enjoy every second...
