First, let me say, we have been coming to Corinth to use the boat ramp for a long time. We love the ramp area. Plenty of room and it is maintained very well. However, we decided to give it a go and camp last night. This was a different experience. Our family was harassed and attacked by the campground attendants the entire 18 hours that we were there. The flyer says park on concrete or gravel and no more than 2 vehicles not including recreational vehicles. Well, my daughter parked in the gravel and we made sure she didn't protrude in the street but we received a notice saying she couldn't park there. We weren't even finished reading the notice when the attendant came flying through the campground on a golf cart yelling from the road that she couldn't park there. We repeatedly told the man that she is leaving. She was literally in the car and he was still telling us over and over that now we cannot park there and no more than 2 cars. My husband explained that we are aware and she is leaving. We had our other vehicle at the lake ramp all day and were simply swapping vehicles the the man couldn't understand this information. He was irrate and again, yelling from the road. The next morning we were leaving early because it was storming. My son pulled out ahead of us and pulled to the side to wait on us and the boat so he could follow us home. Immediately, the angry man came out again yelling at him that he cannot park where he was. He wasn't parked. He pulled over at the trash dumpster where we were otw to dump trash and leave. This man and his wife were horrible hosts. We didn't feel comfortable or at ease the entire day or night. We are clean and respectable people. My husband was a scout leader and highly aware of rules of the federal and state public lands. These gatekeepers ruined our evening and we will not risk returning here again for the mistreatment...
Read moreThis may be my new favorite campground in Alabama! I went tent camping here on Memorial Day Weekend and will definitely be back. The camp staff greet you with exceptional friendliness and with maps to help you get to your site.
The campground is gated and so it feels particularly safe to camp here. The campsites and the wash rooms were well maintained.
There is also a boat ramp to the water. We set off with paddleboards with ease. Lots of little coves to take refuge from the waves of larger boats on the other side of the lake.
For tent camping, it looked to me like campsite 59 was the smallest site, so if you have more than two people, I recommend going with a different number.
The only thing I would change about this place is that the onsite trails were not very well maintained - they were pretty overgrown so walking on them you have risk of ticks and poison ivy in the summer. However, there are so many beautiful flowers in the spring, and views of the lake.
We asked the front office about other trails in the area. They actually gave us print-outs of of maps with directions to places to hike, with additional printed history of these locations. Wow! We went to one of these places - Kinlock Falls. Not a long hike, but...
Read moreThis campground is definitely a hidden gem. It is located three miles off HWY 278 just east of Double Springs. That is just 55 minutes out of Cullman. All sites are large and many of them are very spacious. All sites have sewer, water, 50 and 30 amp electric. Many of the sites are quite level. There are lots of trees and it is a very quiet park. There are clean bath houses and they have a beach to swim in Smith Lake. The beach is a little ways from the campground. You would have to take a bike or car to the beach. While this campground is considered to be on the lake very few sites have even a partial view of the water. There are a few nice hiking trails around the perimiter of the campground. All of the sites are blacktop pavement with the patio areas being fine crushed gravel. All sites have a firepit, grill and lantern pole. If you have a big rig I recommend the Firefly loop as it is more big rig friendly. There is no dust as all roads are paved. This park is a US Cradle of Forestry campground. It operates from March through October. All of the hosts have always been very nice people. They do offer a very good discount to seniors who have the USA National Park...
