Beautiful and can't wait to go again. We're staying in the newly renovated cabins in the newly in progress renovated, what used to be the Twin Dikes Marina and is now the Rayburn COUNTRY Resort. You have to go to the Country Club to check in and pick up your keys. They are expensive, but nicely done. We stayed in the COVE area, one room with 2 queen sized beds, nice large bathroom, and kitchen area has a regular size refrigerator, instead of an apartment size, it does have a microwave, but no stove or stovetop, which makes sense if you're familiar with the prior cabin layout. The OLD KITCHEN area was where the lavatory area is now. So, to add a stove and sink, they would have had some extra MAJOR EXPENSE to do that. Trust me, they have put ALOT OF $$$$ into this to get them done RIGHT. Beautiful white walls and ceilings, carpet off the floor, ADA ramp on the cabin we're in [#16], covered porch with steps facing the lake/cove, with ceiling fan. Like l said earlier, they are not finished yet with ALL the cabins, but they have made progress. You can see how bad a shape they were/are in by just glancing at them. They had multiple hurricanes and tropical storms blow threw here and not only did they not survive, the Marina was torn to shreds as well. It was really sad and heart breaking to see. We've camped here in the park area since our oldest son was 4 and he is now fixing to turn 49. My husband worked offshore 7 & 7, so we were here every other week ALL SUMMER, and weekends during school. Our camper was stored here, so all we had to do was call ahead, it was moved to it's usual site, and we were ready to set up when we got here. It was awesome. The boys would fish from daylight to when it would get too hot to do so. Come eat breakfast. Take a nap. Then go water ski until they were too tired to hold on, then come in for lunch and another nap. Then ski again until it was time to fish until dark. The boat was at the bank, waiting for them to come back and climb aboard. Boy have things changed. They would never even take anything OUT, except when they fished they'd put the skies on the bank and when they skied, they put the fishing gear on the bank. Over 25 years and NOTHING was ever STOLEN. THOSE were the DAYS that we never thought would change! How wrong we were! How wrong are those changes!? Ok, back to progress. They NEW Marina is almost finished as they had to start from scratch. We saw all the materials last summer when we rented a camper at the Twin Dikes State Park next door. It was amazing and we thought they were going way OVERBOARD with the size, quantity and quality of the materials we saw, that was going to be put into the NEW MARINA. Perhaps, my husband said, they want it to withstand any future storms. GOOD IDEA! The cabins on the Lake Side of the RESORT {no longer a camp ground} have 2 bedrooms, 2 porches, one is small at the back end and the other is huge. The kitchen/living room area is also huge, with full kitchen, Island bar to sit at, dining table and chairs, and several other chairs. Large windows to look out over the lake, with steps to walk down to the SANDY BEACH AREA. The swim area is LARGE, and has buoys to keep the boats out and off the beach, so guests can swim and play safely. There are fenced in play/relaxation areas with thatch roof covers and tropical colored chairs to sit on. A play ground for the kids and grandchildren. They are still working on what used to be the little store. I'm sure there's going to be a restaurant around there one day. There are still areas with new picnic tables for campers and tents. They have all the hook ups. The old bath houses are the SAME. They have not gotten to them yet. There are still hotel type rooms that look like they have not been touched yet, but they are for fishermen only, usually, so hey, it's all they need! Sorry guys. Lol We get the best BBQ in Texas at RUE'S BBQ on hwy. 63. Take a right as you exit the Resort, and take a left when you get to the intersection of hwy. 63. NOT FAR, ( we had to turn around because we passed...
Read moreFirst let me say the staff was excellent & very accommodating-but that was where the buck stopped. My husband played golf & loved it-there was absolutely NOTHING for me to do. I hung out at the pool for 3 hrs. (No alcohol allowed) no floats, really boring. The bar was closed from the time we arrived till we left, the restaurant was closed-couldn’t even get a decent cup of coffee. The first night we were here we woke up to a room full !!! of cenepedes (worms) crawling everywhere! I called the office & they moved us immediately to another room. Or I should say I moved us..they gave me another room. Our 2nd night was much better. My husband & I don’t get away very often & I had visions of hanging out around the pool (nearer) to the club house, ordering cocktails, food, relaxing. Enjoying my time while he played golf..but that didn’t happen. If you can’t afford a nicer place to stay, then yes by all means come here...I won’t drive 5 hrs again to come back. Sorry Rayburn it was very disappointing...if you could have been honest with me & said “we are going thru a transition-I would have booked it for another time. The room was comfortable & clean, a/c...
Read moreRestaurant Review Only. Very few people(customers) sparsely scattered around when we arrived. Seated but sat for several minutes before anyone noticed we were there, same waitress across the room chatting. Tried putting in our Starter order to be asked if we knew what we wanted so she could "put it all in at once" um well No.. no we are not ready to order. After putting in the order we did enjoy the appetizer, fried ravioli- definitely nothing homemade but was tasty. Ordered a Ribeye and he got Surf & Turf.. with all the sides and a salad. Salad was great. Steak was ok. Sides were really really bad.. we both left our sides on the plate, so salty it burned my tongue (usually you can't salt stuff enough for me).. the Shrimp on his were supposed to be grilled- they were blackened- he doesn't eat blackened season so the Shrimp were left. We basically paid 150$ to eat 2 steaks and 2 house salads. Was really hoping it was better than last time because the Stump is about all we got to go hv a good steak & shrimp.. but we will keep going to the Stump- 3rd times a charm. 3rd time this Summer we paid to much money for pretty...
