Ok, a lot to unpack here at this place. First, getting there is a challenge because this is basically pretty far out in the woods and once you turn onto Trussel road, there really are no other signs and things get a bit confusing. However, my suggestion is to keep going and once you come around a curve you will see the sign on the right side of the road for TerraLodge. This is how the directions in the email are given, but in reality, it's a bit confusing when you are on the actual road, but just keep going and resist the temptation to think you're a bit lost. Watch out for the local Sheriff's department, apparently they have nothing better to do than sit out on this road way out in the middle of nowhere and pull people over...It is really weird, think Dukes of Hazard.......The speed limit goes down to 20mph in some places and the road is very narrow, think Europe.
Second, once you manage to find your way to the Terralodge, this is in the woods. The pics on the website are accurate, however, what is not explained is the parking situation is very tight, if you have a truck, expect to do a 6 point turn to get parked into your spot and out of it. Given the amount of land they have, I think it could have been better designed. One good thing is the main entrance has been recently paved until you get to the top then it goes back to gravel. The main entrance is steep so be careful if it's wet.
The treehouse I stayed in was The Cumberland, it is exactly as advertised on the website. I think it is perfect size for 2 adults, but I would not recommend kids for more than 1 night as it gets cramped very fast, especially if you have a dog in the mix. The bed is in the loft which, is very comfortable but the ladder going up and down is a bit tricky and if you have any orthopedic issues, you might want to think twice about the treehouse and go with one of their cabins. Plenty of pillows and everything was great as far as sleeping. AC worked very well, although I brought a box fan just in case and for static noise. The couch pulls out into a second bed and is great for a child, but I wouldn't want to sleep on it as an adult for more than a night. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you might need. My only complaint was the small fridge, it was not very cold and we kept most of our stuff in the cooler. Further, the "freezer" portion of it was overgrown with ice and randomly decided to unthaw on day two so I was cleaning up water the whole day on the floor until it was done melting, very weird to say the least.
The bathroom is done very nicely, plenty of towels and they do have shampoo, body wash and conditioner in the shower. The water is plenty hot. The only thing I can nitpick here is the location of the water handle, it is not directly below the shower head and is on the side wall and is at elbow height, so every time I moved in the shower, my right arm would basically hit the handle moving it to very hot water and I would have to move it back, it's a very strange place to have put the water valve and not something I would have designed (seems a bit DIY).
I did not use the fireplace inside, but did use the SOLO stove outside. I had to clean it out first as it had over 12 inches of debris that was packed so tightly there was no airflow from the bottom and if you have used a SOLO stove before, you know the design is dependent on airflow from the bottom. Once I got that done, getting a fire going was easy. I purchased 2 bags of firewood from the locker outside, just remember the lock code they send you in the welcome email when you purchase the wood.
The hot tub was great, I turned it up to max temp and in a few hours it was good to go. I would say 2 adults and 1 child can comfortably fit, 2 adults is perfect. I did not use the BBQ grill. The deck is very nice, it was great sitting out by the fire making smores and listening to the wind.
Overall, a bit pricey, but I enjoyed my stay and would come here again without the kids for the treehouse and would consider a cabin rental with any...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting the Terralodge Tiny Cabins. The description of the cabins on the website were deceiving because it states that the cabins had a bedroom and a loft which was not the case when we arrived. In fact, the cabin only had a living room with a pullout sofa bed and a queen-size bed/mattress on a platform upstairs in the loft area. There was not an actual bedroom in the house.
The first night (Friday) we arrived things were okay until we inspected the cabin itself. The extra pillows inside the cabinets by the kitchen were dirty and had stains and human hair remains on them. The bathroom had hair on the floor from previous guests or the cleaning crew (if the cabin was actually cleaned) on the floor.
The sheets on the pull out sofa bed had stains on them and were not cleaned properly. Additionally, the cabin had no additional trash bags in which we had to purchase more to be able to take out the trash when the first bag got full.
Furthermore, the next morning (Saturday) when we awoke, the maintenance personnel had to be called out because the battery inside of smoke detector of cabin #3 had gone bad and was chirping throughout the morning. However, once they were contacted, they did come and replace the battery in a timely manner. On Saturday night, we received a call from Christy accusing us that she had received multiple complaints claiming that we were playing loud music outside, and that we were not supposed to be playing music outside at all. However, according to welcome board inside the cabin, it does not state that we cannot play music inside or outside, in fact, the guidance only says to “please be respectful of your neighbors and keep outside noise to a minimum”, which we did and never had music playing loud at all, for the neighbors to hear.
Moreover, the neighbors in cabin #5 had multiple visitors and cars over on Saturday night and were so loud that you could hear them from the front porch and back patio. In my opinion, I felt that we were targeted and the alleged noise complaints were filed because we were a group of black women surrounded by cabins that were rented by white folk and didn’t want to see us there having a good time. We didn’t bother anyone and we stayed to ourselves the entire weekend, therefore, I am unsure what the issue was. We were not some teenagers just out there partying and acting obnoxious as if we didn’t have any sense. We all were a group of older women, that are retired military personnel and government civilian workers that were over the age of 45 years old. We were simply there having a bridal celebration for a friend that was about to get married. I do not recommend renting these cabins if you are a black person. Please see attached pictures of the areas/things that I pointed out were dirty...
Read moreWe stayed in the Redbud dome and found it a delightful place for our 50th anniversary getaway. The facility was clean and well appointed. There is a comfortable living / dinning area with a fireplace and TV. The dome features a large bathroom with a huge shower including a powerful shower head and a large rain head. They provide quality shampoo, conditioner, and body wash along with 2 robes. The kitchen was well stocked with quality cookware, appliances, dishes, and glassware. The hot tub was clean and warm - ready for use when we arrived. The king-size bed was comfortable and situated so you have a panoramic view of the woods through floor-to-ceiling triangular windows. (Leave the curtains open and enjoy a beautiful sunrise through the trees in the morning.) There are plenty of plugs on either side of the bed for your USB and other electronics. The outside deck features quality outdoor furniture and is a quiet place to enjoy your surroundings. There is a firepit available for those cool nights. Although we never saw them, the staff were quick to respond to emails and provided timely instructions for arrival and departure. As far as activities are concerned, if you are a golfer, The Course at Sewanee offers a challenging 9-hole experience. Situated on the campus the The University of the South, the course was in excellent condition and offered wonderful panoramic views of the valley below on a couple of holes. The university campus features some beautiful architecture, new and historic. Don't fail to step inside the gorgeous chapel on campus. There is a wide variety of quaint restaurants not far from the Terralodge complex, such as Shenanigans, Pearl's, or our favorite, High Point which offers the best in fine dinning. We recommend Terralodge for that unique, quiet getaway that every couple needs from time-to-time, or to enjoy that special anniversary. We are confident you will enjoy...
