My husband and I spent a week at Hidden Cove RV Resort in April 2016. As Thousand Trails members we found this park to be quite delightful. We got directions off the site before heading out. We found the roads in to be 2 lane but not bumpy at all. We were in a 37 foot Class A and pulling a car. Upon check in we met Becky, the camp manager, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Becky also lives on site. This park is out in the relaxing country side with lots of trees, birds, rabbits, squirrels, and a very beautiful river. There is a boat ramp and then a separate super nice river viewing platform with large rocks that allow you to easily access the river. The park is very clean and well kept. There is a beautiful Clubhouse with a wraparound porch overlooking the river. The laundry facility I used had two brand new front load washers and dryers. Cost was $1.25 to wash and $1 to dry. While doing laundry we met Neda who takes care of the activities and facilities. She was very friendly and takes great pride in keeping the facilities like she would like them in her own home. I have to say this is one of the cleanest parks we have stayed in. We had no problem getting our satellite hooked up to Dish and we were under some trees. We did have very spotty reception with our Verizon cell phones (AT&T is the best carrier for the area) however, we found that if we walked to the pool parking lot we could make calls out with no problem. The park did offer free Wi-Fi that we felt was very good so we were able to hook up our computers and phones to the free Wi-Fi and communicate via Facebook, texting, and email. The park also has an underground shelter in case of emergencies, which as full-timers we really appreciate, although Becky says that the seven years she has been there they have not needed it. Our site was gravel but we had no issues leveling. There was a fire ring and nice picnic table. The town of Cullman, AL is about 35 minutes away with a 3D movie theater, Wal-Mart and many places to eat. The drive there is not bad. We went twice while in the area. The Ave Maria Grotto is on the way to Cullman and we enjoyed the 125 miniature reproductions of some of the most famous religious structures of the world. The town of Arley is only about 5 miles away and has The Sons of Arley gas station/grocery store on the corner where you can get all your necessities, including produce. There is also a post office and a Dollar General with a Redbox. There are a couple restaurants in Arley but we didn’t get to them. We had a great week here and we recommend you give this...
Read moreBeautiful place. Clean well kept. However you can’t book a spot in advance. It’s first come first serve. So we got there early hoping to get a good spot only to discover that all of the shady spots, and all of the lakefront spots are occupied by long-term residence. The only spots available to short-term people is a huge empty gravel parking lot. No trees. No shade. Decided to make the best of it. We were getting unpacked and we discovered really quickly that there are long-term residents that basically walk around and police the RV park. One of them actually had the audacity to force my child to stop what he was doing and sent him walking down the road sobbing to find me. I think this behavior is completely unacceptable. And not only did management condone that behavior, the management came over to threaten to kick us out. Simply because when my husband went down to get the cart, This old man ( resident ) got so irate he was swinging his stick at my husband threatening him with actual violence. So definitely keep your children very close to you because my son was scared the rest of the weekend to do anything because he was afraid that the “old man” would attack him again. And just for reference the crime that my son had committed ?? Was driving a golf cart under age. Yes it was breaking the rules absolutely. ( that we didn’t have at the time Bc no one was there to check us in ) But do they have any right to do what they did to him and terrorize him? No absolutely not! That is not their place to discipline anybody else’s child. Let’s not forget it was not a member that worked there it was a long-term resident. And yet we were the ones that were threatened with having to leave. They forced him to stop. Made him get off and told him to walk. He came back crying and scared. I was watching too. Bc I was waiting for him to come back so I could ride with him. We will not be back. There are tons of other campgrounds that are first come first pick, where you’re able to get waterfront or a nice...
Read moreGranted we have only stayed at 4 other Thousand Trail Parks but this one is the best one yet. Every site is full hookup. The A-Loop is 50 amp and mostly annual members who enjoy coming on the weekends. The B-Loop is 30 amp and the C-Loop is the newest section with 50 amps. Most of the sites are not water front, the sites that are waterfront are taken by annual members. The sites are large enough to sit outside and not be on top of your neighbors, with lots of trees. planted nearby. The staff is friendly and helpful, the grounds are well cared for, the roads are in very good shape, the clubhouse is large and in good shape, the lake is beautiful! The pool is clean and has a great polymer lining that doesn’t scratch your feet. While the bathhouse in C-Loop is new and clean, seriously one of the nicest campground bathhouses we’ve seen, the other bathroom is older and outdated and smelled like someone had washed their dog in the shower (the one time we went over there on a walk). The laundry room uses an app and is $2.25 a load. If one of the machines doesn't work you have to report it to the app and it's royal pain in the backside, but that's a whole review in and of itself. Hidden Cove also has a small playground, mini golf course, 9 hole disc golf, basketball & pickle ball court, volleyball, and horse shoes. If you like to walk there is plenty of room to walk the campground roads. If you put on more mileage and/or run you might want to use the paved road, but bring something to deter the slew of dogs that run at your heels. AT&T gets 3-4 bars while Verizon’s service was sketchy at best. Our favorite part of this park was swimming every afternoon, either in the pool or in the beautiful Smith Lake! There are some historical places to visit but they are about 40 minutes away. There is a small grocery store in the town of Arley, but you might want to stock up before you come, if you use a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. All in all a great...
