An AMAZING experience & vacation. HIGHLY recommend. Is practically off the grid to unplug, rest, reflect & relax in Benezette, Elk County, PA. Celebrated a birthday & an anniversary. Perfect place to do it😀👍 Stayed in 1 of 11 single, rustic, private & beautiful lodges/cabins in the deep woods with most of the comforts of home. We weren’t really roughing it! We saw more wild animals than I’ve ever seen. Elk by the dozens, deer, black bear, flock of turkeys, black squirrel & others. The Elk are freely roaming between homes, downtown & through the vast plains. It was amazing & the views were breathtaking, not to mention the fall foliage. Drove 200+ miles around the area & so many of the remote gravel, dirt & other roads ‘elk viewing’. You just never knew when an elk is standing in the road just a few yards away. The trout streams are picturesque & the fishing is a popular spot for anglers. Our Lodge was “Trout Lodge”. Just the 2 of us but it could sleep 5! Some other lodges on property accommodate larger families/groups if need be. The Visitor Center was most interesting. I also learned that many people have never even heard of this area in PA. Highly recommend as a quiet vacation destination. Sept.- Oct. the elk are in rut so lots of movement & looking for their ‘mates’. Peak season is summer months. Much quieter when we went.👍 Pete was definitely in his element! For sure, we will return to Medix Run Lodge. Accommodations were impeccable & while we didn’t have a fire, there is a firepit & picnic table at all the sites as well as a screened porch. The owners & hosts, John & Liz were so warm & friendly. A chapel was recently built on the property in memory of John’s dad who passed away a few years ago. It’s so quaint with panoramic views & they host several weddings, services & have cabins for guests. A wedding on Saturday with their guests staying in the Lodges. And, just a few miles away was “The Cross”, overlooking the beautiful countryside. This Saturday is a Halloween party, a band & gathering at the owners home just up the road from the cabins. Our mid-week stay was just what we needed for a most memorable vacation. That part of PA & the country is evident of our Creators magnificence of nature & wildlife. FYI, they do have a dump station, 30 amp and water, but they don’t advertise it! Back to reality...
Read moreWe stayed in the Whitetail Lodge. It has a master bedroom, bathroom, and loft. Bathroom has a tub/shower, sink & toilet. My son fell in love with the loft area. There was a small couch, tv, and the 2nd bed (full size). The steps to the loft are quite steep. We didn't let the two kiddos under 5 on them. The cabin is fully furnished. All the linens, and towels were there. Plenty of pillows & blankets as well. There is an outside fire pit with tables and chairs. You can purchase wood there for $7 a bundle. The grounds have shower houses, a swing set, a kennel fence to contain pets, lodge cabins, and overnight cabins. The lodge owners, John & Liz, are super nice. They were on the grounds daily to repair things and clean. They stopped by once to let us know Elk were up on the main lodge's yard. We saw a good many elk in the area, none near our cabin tho. We were told there are a few family of bear living around the cabins. We didn't see them. However, you could find random pieces of garbage with claw & teeth marks, and the dumpster has obvious bear damage. There is no cell phone reception anywhere on the camp grounds, and there is no wifi in the cabins. There is wifi at the main lodge, you just have to ask for the password. The nearest cell reception is roughly a 1.5 miles up the road from the camp. Its only a few bars, however. There was a motion sensor light on the one shower house that was directly across from our cabin. It would detect out movement when we were at our firepit. It also would detect every movement from the firepit of the trout lodge. It was nice for loading & unloading the car at night, but was annoying while having our campfire. There are a few signs posted around camp that say to call John & Liz if you need anything. Only problem is, no phones. They should install one in each cabin for emergencies, even if they only connect to the main lodge.
The camp had everything we needed. We really enjoyed our stay. If we are back in the area, we...

We had the best time! My husband and I stayed here in one of the efficiency cabins with our mini poodle, Bailey, for a short weekend. We had searched on Airbnb/Google and this was the best priced/located/amenity-offering location- we are so glad we found it! We love camping without actually camping- haha! This place was the perfect fit for us. Immaculately clean and offered amenities like AC, lawn chairs, microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, etc. the bath house and small camp store were just across the driveway. These cabins are truly set up for convenience! The location of these cabins is amazing! Quiet and peaceful- perfect for some R&R. You are away from the hustle and bustle located at the heart of Benezette but minutes away from sight/elk seeing. On top of all of that, the owners and staff were so kind and friendly. We hope to be back again!

We love this place! My husband and I stumbled upon this hidden gem last year. We make an annual trip to elk County for a day or a brief weekend. My husband loves checking out the elk and I love kicking back and relaxing while being unplugged from cell service. The prices here cannot be beat and the customer service is top notch. This year, we weren’t sure if we were going to be able to make our annual trip due to our work schedules. The owners were so kind and accommodating a very last-minute trip – like hours before we arrived last minute - so kind, so thoughtful, so trusting and so accommodating. If you are ever looking for a place to stay in Benezette, this place cannot be beat! Best prices and even better...
