Rented a cabin here for a long, relaxing weekend getaway. I was very happy with the entire experience! The manager, Wendy, was very nice, professional and helpful! We stayed in Cabin 6 on the property, tucked right up against the wood-line, off to the left side of the front(ish) of the property. The cabin is the prefect size and has a cute little front porch with a small bistro table and chairs, perfect to sit and drink morning coffee. There is a fire pit about 6 feet away from the porch, in the grass, which we made good use of during the evenings/nights, as we enjoyed a warm fire and stargazed for hours - I even saw a shooting star! I was very happy with how clean and pleasant the cabin was. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was soft and warm. There is a full size fridge and microwave, coffee maker with complementary coffee/creamer and mugs, Direct TV cable, and WiFi. There is also a coal grill outside and the fire pit has a removeable metal grate that you can add to cook on. The cabin has a full bathroom with standup shower, which is greatly appreciated after a long day of hiking through the miles of trails on their property! Aside from the cabins, they also have tent camping sites and RV sites that are rented out - which tends to slow at this time of the year, but they do provide hook ups to RVs and rent spots through the winter. So, we did have a few RV neighbors while staying there, and everyone we saw was very friendly. There are 3 small lakes on the property with catch and release fishing. Once of the lakes has a small beach for use in the summer, and there is a cabin that is right near the beach that can be rented as well. There is a big recreation center with a pool table and other cool stuff, a big playground as well. We were having such a good time hiking and relaxing at the cabin that we didn't make use of the rec center, but it's a great option to have, especially if you have kids! There are plenty of things to do in the area too... We took a ride over to Ohio Caverns, about 15 minutes away, and did a tour there which was really incredible, highly recommend checking that out. We went horseback trail riding at Marmon Valley Farm (only about 8 minutes away) - best trail ride I've ever been on! Took a drive into Bellefontaine to have lunch one day at Don's Diner - they have the best burgers... had dinner our last night in town at 2 G's Barbecue - really, really great food and service there. Everything made for an awesome getaway and we'll definitely be back to A&E for another cabin rental...
Read moreFirst off, the website gave very limited information about the cabins and neglected to give a precise description of the standard cabin. Contacting the office wad painful! I would have to leave a message and wait days for a call back. The last call before arrival to the campground, I was trying to verify what exactly the cabin included so that I knew exactly what I needed to pack. Traveling from Florida, I didn't want to leave things to "assumptions". I was told that the cabin contained two queen beds and two bathrooms. The day of arrival, we pulled up to the office on a rainy day and the owners son just pointed up the hill and said our cabin was #1. Small tiny single parking spot is designed more for a compact car and not a truck. Unlocking the cabin door, I automatically notice that the two so called "queen" beds are actually two double beds that are pushed against either side of the cabin wall, leaving zero space for the person on the wall side to exit the bed. I had to climb over my husband in the middle of the night to use the one bathroom that was in the cabin. The door to the cabin had a huge gap on the bottom that allowed bugs to crawl in!!! The shower drain was not installed correctly, so water was always sitting in the shower. The screws where not cut so they are sticking up. Dust is every where and I don't think this place is ever cleaned. I would give this place a 0 out of 5 if I could! Would never stay here again if someone...
Read moreOverall: Mostly an RV Campground, with mostly seasonal campers (there for the whole summer, etc.). They also had 5 primitive sites, a couple of primitive cabins, and a couple of furnished cabins. ||||Pros: Centrally located bath house with 3 showers for each gender (male & female). Since most of the people there are in RVs, the bathhouse was not crowded. Large playground for the kids. Two lakes – well, 1 pond and 1 small lake. The lake was clean, the pond, not so much. Plenty of hiking trails, although the scenery was all the same. All sites had fire rings and picnic tables. All of the primitive sites had plenty of room (room enough for an 8-person tent and your vehicle, with lots of room to set up chairs, etc.) Friendly staff.||||Cons: Most of the sites were pretty close together, with no trees or anything separating you from your neighbor (except for 2 primitive sites which were more isolated). Some of the RV sites were small, so that their car had to be parked elsewhere. The stall doors in the bathroom were only half-height, and the men’s had no means of latching them closed…kind of disturbing for a shy guy like me. It was right off a county highway, so you did get a little road noise, although not horrible. You could also hear not-too-distant train horns throughout the night, but again,...
