Spring Lake Park — Hotel in Jefferson

Lovely park, unfortunately the guy in charge does a terrible job of communicating..they have a policy of no refund on cancellation. Which I didn't find out about until I went on their site on my computer. transmission went out in my truck and I reach out by phone 3 times well in advance ..sent emails. Explaining the situation. And when I realized they weren't going to respond back. I said we would be there as I didn't want them to rebook our spot and still make money off of us. Come to find out I recommended this place for a friend who also canceled in the last minute but finally got a chance to talk to them after several attempts themselves and they allowed them to rebook for a later date. That offer was never on the table for us so we lost 5 days worth of camping. We definitely would have rebooked had we been given that opportunity.. I wrote another email to the guy in charge and he has ignored them. For these reasons we will not be back even though we love to park.we have crossed this park off our list ..only because it's near ti impossible to talk to someone there ..an the no refund policy ..most parks charge a cancellation fee .I have never seen a no...

It would be a higher rating if more campsites were reservable. We drove over 2 hours on a Thursday night and the place we basically full. Spots are tight and campers reserve walk up sites for others by placing tiny (child sized) tents in the site. From what I read online a camping unit must be present in the site when tagging but it makes it difficult for others to find a spot when walk up site are tagged but no unit is on the pad. And the post to see if the site is taken is all the way to the back of the site, makes it easier to back in but harder to tell as you drive by if it is taken. They definitely need to have more sites reservable online and that is the only way we will come to this campground again is if we are able to reserve ahead. This is the best place of its kind in Iowa. Very nice area. Beautiful. The beach area is like a pool with a concession stand that nor only has awesome ice cream and other food but you can rent canoes, paddle boats, and kayaks.

The skating rink is like going back in time and if it rains at least there is still something to do.

The cabins are nice with excellent rates.

Many camping spots just feet from the lake as well as other areas a short distance away.

There is so much you can do from hiking and fishing to Frisbee golf and more.

They also grill on Friday afternoons so if you want to take a break from cooking or just want to get out, stop by and get something.

Is better now than when...
