Canon Del Rio is hands down the finest bed & breakfast I have ever stayed in. It features a full service spa in a stunning setting in the Jemez mountains, what more do you need? My wife and I celebrated our 40th birthdays here and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Danya and her staff were incredibly attentive to our comfort level and needs even when they ran into a scheduling hiccup with the spa which was out of their control. It gave us a little extra time to talk to her and get to know the area which we were happy about. We stayed in the "Apache" room which was delightful and the lack of TV allowed us to totally unplug and relax on a level we haven't achieved in years! The grounds are well kept, the pool and spa were clean and we mostly had the place to ourselves. There are trails that lead down to the river where you'll find several sets of chairs to lounge riverside with your favorite beverage, my wife and I actually ate our dinner by the river one evening. We had a couples massage and both of our therapists were wonderful. If you're a guy and you think you don't do full body massages because it's not manly, well you're totally missing out. Breakfast! OH MY GOD the breakfast was the best I've ever had, no exaggeration. Danya owned a bakery at one point so she's a professional chef, I suggest staying here just for the breakfast alone. I'm not going to give away what we had, you have to experience it yourself. As an added bonus we met some wonderful people and made some new friends. We actually played a card game in the great room one evening for the first time in a decade and rekindled our interest in doing something together that doesn't require a power plug! Our only regret was only spending two nights here, we will be back in the fall to see what the Jemez look like with a dusting of snow. Pro tip: We brought a cooler with wine and snacks since there aren't many dining or shopping options within Jemez Springs (Los Ojos Bar has good food). Definitely visit Jemez Falls, it's a short hike from the Falls campground. And most of all, enjoy the drive on your way in, it's...
Read moreI gave this rating describing just my experience . Pros: property is absolutely beautiful . So many fine details and as art lovers we were impressed how this place was decorated. Breakfast was amazing . So many varieties including my favorite quiche. Everything was organic . Jacuzzi was wonderful amenity. Walk by the river was beautiful . And hot springs near by was a nice addition . Drive from Albuquerque is non forgettable. Everything was very clean and plenty of commodities in the bathroom. Cons: room was very small. We brought luggage in and there was nowhere to walk . It’s an ok size for a bedroom in private house but not for hotel room where people bring their suitcases . I forgot the last time me and my husband were sleeping in queen size bed . If you don’t mind it then it’s fine but for us it was exhausting experience . None of us got a good night sleep . Price: first we thought it was so high because of balloon fest in town but then I looked at other dates and price seemed to be fixed . We paid 210$ and for the room the price is outrageous . I don’t mind paying that much if room was bigger and had comfortable bed but for such small room in my opinion was definitely not worth it . Hot springs : the checking in this hotel is at 3 pm. Hot springs last call at 4:15 pm. Pay is by hour . I have never been in hot springs anywhere in the world where I have to use hot spring by the hour. When we arrived a lady told us they are at capacity . In the morning they only open at 11.which is check out time . So first we have to check out and only then go to hot springs . Also we had to bring our own towel and since we don’t take towels with us and we already checked out of hotel we have to air dry ourselves before putting our clothes on . That was quite a bizarre...
Read moreIncredible views, great breakfast by the housekeepers right in a quiet town. Pricing for room was affordable you get access to so many amenities on site - hot tub, pool (heated), sauna and spa services. We were not able to use the spa services, however, there is another spa/bathhouse nearby. Santa Fe is the closest big city, and we went there for skiing and I was able to get a worthwhile massage and scrub (Absolute Nirvana). Breakfast is served at 9 AM, and it is done in the common area where you have access to drinks and snacks. It is a different approach to general hospitality where it is serve yourself and sit, this is more family style and you interact closely (if you choose to) with other guests at the same big table. I will note that each housekeeper who is charge of cooking has their own different cooking style, and there is gluten-free options. The have plenty of books and a little bit of games if you choose not to go out in town (Jemez Springs or a big town) and Wi-Fi. This is definitely a zen place and you will relax here - many people from different areas around the world come and go and its an overall positive experience. I recommend going to the Hot Springs ($25 USD) for a soak and the San Antonio Hot Springs if you have a good sedan or car with AWD/4x4. New Mexico has a lot of great scenic views, but the most romantic has to be a really starry night - its gorgeous and I have never seen so many stars in sky in my life. This place just got new management but we enjoyed it so much it just seems like it was operated by locals (which most of the staff is). As for restaurants nearby, there is not many choices and if you are not a picky eater than it would be just fine - if you are a picky eater Santa Fe has some...
