Read moreWrenwood Ranch is about 6 miles west of Johnson City on US 290. I can see how it can be tricky to find since there is no signage, but as long as you follow navigation directions from your GPS and follow the instructions that Chad provides, you should have no troubles finding the location.
The "ranch" is a collection of cabins. My wife and I stayed at the Tritch Cottage, which is one of the newly built ones by the owners. It has no front porch but has a nice area off to the side with chairs and a grill. The Tritch Cottage is a two-bedroom cabin and upon arrival we found the cabin to have been very clean. We used only the master bedroom during our stay and found that the bed was quite comfortable.
The cabin has a fully-equipped kitchen - electric stove, microwave, fridge, dining table, cutlery, plates, mugs and cups, cooking utensils, cleaning supplies etc. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find that the owners, Chad and his wife, also provided coffee, tea, popcorn, quick-cook oatmeal, breakfast bars, ice cream and eggs. In addition to the provided supplies in the kitchen, the cabin's bathroom was equipped with hand wash soap, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and an ample supply of towels.
For sightseeing the local area, the location is perfect. It is situated nearby several wineries and Chad and his wife provide discount coupons for wine tasting for you to use. My wife and I visited the Lyndon B. Johnson State and Historic Park in Stonewall, about 3 miles west of the ranch. If the weather is not cloudy I highly recommend seeing the stars at the park since it is an officially-designated International Dark Sky Park. We also savored some local cuisine and beverages at Pecan Street Brewing in Johnson City. East of the ranch about 16 miles away is Pedernales Falls State Park which offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, swimming, and examining the wonderful geological features of the falls. This state park also has bird blinds from which you can watch birds; when my wife and I were there we saw several hummingbirds!
We did not interact much with the owners, but for the one time we did - when we first arrived - the service rendered was great. I needed to charge our EV but found no external outlet in our cabin. I approached Chad and he said I could use the external outlet in the neighboring cabin. He also provided an extension chord for us to use. The owners are friendly and will go out of their way to make sure their guests are welcome and have everything they need to make their stay pleasant and...
Read moreMy family stayed for the first time last weekend in The Tritch cottage for a two-night staycation for my birthday. I'm so glad we chose to stay here! Our cottage was one of the larger ones with two separate bedrooms, and I appreciated the privacy and spaciousness it offered, since we were traveling with our two children. The cottage was fully stocked with everything to cook on site, if you prefer to dine in, but it is also close enough to several attractions in Johnson City and Hye, if you prefer to dine out or hit the wineries. The owners were so attentive and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They really thought of all of the little details, including providing popcorn and ice cream in the cottage in addition to the standard coffee and tea provisions and all of the cooking essentials like oils and spices. Not to mention complimentary fresh eggs from their on site chicken coop! There was a communal fire pit, which we enjoyed using at night, and an enclosed puppy park area for pet owners. They also have a beautiful event venue near the front of the property, which would make this an ideal location for a wedding, corporate or social retreat, reunion, etc. There was a sitting area with Adirondack chairs and tables just outside of our cottage, where I was able to enjoy my morning tea among the trees. My son enjoyed throwing around the football with my husband outdoors too, as there is plenty of space. Last but not least, they included some free wine tasting certificates in the cottage, which we were able to take advantage of during our stay.
The feel at Wrenwood Ranch is very warm, welcoming, cozy, and private, and the proximity to Johnson City and Hye is great. All in all, I would highly recommend Wrenwood Ranch for the comfort, location, friendly service, extra perks, and value that they offer! I hope to stay there again, and I will be sending my friends their way...
