We were excited to come here based on other reviews, but overall, it was just okay. The lots were spacious, and the grass was awesome. The store was great, had everything you could need for great prices, plus slushies, donuts, ice cream, and coffee. The pond was clean and sandy, but very small for the number of people (not their fault). If you want a spot by the beach, you need to put your awning out there early Friday. The blob and slide were fun, but they were over the top with some rules and many times screaming at kids for very weird things while not addressing other things.
One of the first issues we had was when we booked our sites (5 families) we were told we could park in a "square", but when we arrived they would absolutely not allow us to do that. It worked out, just annoyed we were told that when it wasn't allowed.
The 2nd issue we had was the small fire pits and how overboard they were about fires staying in the ring. Just a few pieces of wood, and it was full of coal. The "security" guy came by and said we needed to have it cleaned out by staff. I'm not sure why it was our responsibility, but we approached 2 staff members the next day, and we were told they'd do it when we left. That night "security" came by again and said I had to dump water around your pit at 2am, and wanted to know why we didn't have it emptied. We explained what we were told and he was rather upset and said he'd address it with the owners. We never did get our pit cleaned. Seems it would behoove them to just put in bigger rings. Also, no firewood is allowed to be brought into the park because of the state law, but the state law is no longer valid, and we were scolded for that, too. The fires had to be out by 2am also, which is strange, in my opinion.
The one lady in the office was not very friendly and I didn't think much of it, but I said to my hubby when we checked in that our welcome wasn't very pleasant. Reading other reviews, it seems other people have commented about it, too. First impressions are important.
Overall, just be sure to read their rules very thoroughly and be prepared to have some of your "fun" governed by them. We likely won't be back, but we are glad we...
Read moreLooking for a handicapped friendly camping experience? Look no further! I'm here to tell you, I am currently re-learning to walk due to a medical condition. Some days I need a wheelchair, some a walker, some a cane. I have spent 2 weekends at LOD since being diagnosed a year ago. I first stayed in the cabins. These offered raised beds for ease of getting in and out, ramps on the front porch, and are located close to the bathhouse. They are roomy and can accommodate a wheelchair with lots of room for easy transfers. They offer both heat and a/c. The bath house has a large handicapped stall with grab bars to assist. They also have smooth transitions from crushed rock/sand parking lot Infront of the bathhouse, if even the short walk can be too much for some. I most recently stayed in a tent. We had a beautiful site that accommodated all 3 assistive aides. In the front of the park they offered a lovely beach. If you are not able to get down in the sand they have a lovely patio that is easily accessed that over looks all the festivities on the beach. They have two stocked fishing ponds. I was able to join my son's on mother's Day and watch the bass hit the line and the not so littles real them in. The ponds offer great frog hunting opportunities. If you are lucky you may get to view the northern lights here. The staff does a great job of enforcing quiet time and keeping night noise to a minimum. LOD gave me my confidence to camp with my disability, and make new memories as a family. The staff is friendly and welcoming. If you call directly when making you reservation they are well aware of their sites that can assist people with disabilities, and instead give them the ability to camp. Well done Bob and all the...
Read moreOkay got a site for the weekend. Nice place, reasonable. The one problem was with some of the staff members on the water. 2 women in particular, if I had their names I would post them.
If they seen something that was against "the rules", they did not approach anyone and talk, they just YELLED at them, blowing whistles and yell, LOUDLY!
I would think they could get one's attention and talk to them in a calm manner would produce more compliance than just flying off screaming and yelling then running to the office getting a paper with the rules on it, come back and scream some more.
One of the rules I am referring to is fishing from a paddle boat. (1 male staff member actually took the time to go to the man and explain why there was no fishing from the paddle boat, that was while the woman was flying in golf cart to office to get the rules)
Another was with some of the kids on the slide, they were doing nothing wrong they got screamed at for going down slide, going around and getting back on, supposedly not letting anyone else slide. Those kids were given a warning and next time their bands would be cut off. Kids were down that thing all day long. There was no problems that I seen.
I sat out there for 3 hours and seen nothing but kids and some adults having fun. There is no reason staff needs to be acting the way they did
Please have a meeting with your staff and correct the way the interact with people. Remember people coming there are what keeps...
