We really enjoyed our stay at the Bungalows. The location is great, just a 15-minute drive from the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park and close to Yucca Valley’s stores and restaurants.
Our “deluxe suite” was spacious and well priced, with a massive king bed, full living room, and a fully equipped kitchen. It had everything we needed for cooking, including a full-size stove and oven, fridge, toaster, kettle, and all the necessary utensils and tableware. It would be a great spot for an extended stay.
We made good use of the on-site barbecue and loved eating dinner on our patio while watching the sun set over the desert. The included binoculars were a nice touch and came in handy for spotting roadrunners and desert cottontails right from our porch.
The design of the bungalow was beautiful - modern and well thought out. It was also interesting to learn about the Institute of Mentalphysics and its connection to Lloyd Wright. While the bungalows themselves weren’t designed by Wright, some of the nearby buildings were and you can walk around and explore the grounds. Parts of the property are worn down and in need of maintenance, but still worth a wander. One downside was the pool area, which felt like an afterthought and didn’t fit in with the organic architectural style. It had no shade, awkward fencing, and not much of a view.
Service-wise, everything was completely digital. We didn’t interact with a single person during our stay. It was smooth and easy, but very impersonal. Overall, we still had a great time and...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to spend our tenth wedding anniversary visiting Joshua Tree National Park, and when I found the Bungalows by Homestead Modern, I knew this was where we would stay. We are huge fans of anything mid-century modern, so this was the perfect place, and honestly, the bungalows are even better in person. The space is thoughtfully designed down to the last detail, including the soaps and even the Bluetooth speaker. It was refreshing to come back to such a great space after a day of hiking.
The retreat center itself is located about 5 minutes west of the town of Joshua Tree and about 15 minutes from the park entrance. With nothing else around, the nights were peaceful and the mornings quiet. We had people staying on all sides of us, and we never heard a thing.
Overall, I can't say enough great things about the Bungalows. It was a wonderful stay, and I recommend anyone stay there if they are visiting Joshua Tree or...
Read moreBeautiful, unique, modern small hotel, nestled within the Joshua Tree Retreat Center, with spectacular views of the surrounding desert through wide picture windows! The unit was spacious, immaculate and interesting, with comfortable furniture, a quiet split-ductless cooling system, room-darkening curtains, and a wide open living and dining area.
The retreat grounds were fascinating, with architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright and his son, fountains, cacti, and wide vistas towards the desert. A serene and relaxing environment.
The Food for Thought Cafe had great and varied vegetarian breakasts and lunches, with an attentive staff. The hotel is right off 29 Palms Highway (though a bit hard to find at first), with nearby restaurants, such as Sky High Pie, and easy access (a few miles away) to Joshua Tree National Park.
A wonderful and unusual experience! We would...
