Campgrounds are well maintained and the river area is as it states located next to the Loxahatchee river...has a boat ramp so there can be lots of traffic of boats and kayaks during the day passing by... however it's not excessive...lovely well kept bathrooms..has a washer and dryer but they are a little older than other state parks and at this time charge $2.50 for a wash and the same for the dryer... quarters only..no credit card.Wifi is available at the information center....the campsites are nice with 50 and 30amp service and a water tap..they are slightly close to the next one and not a lot of privacy for most of them..the one issue for us was that the dump station was 4 miles away at the main campsite which made it really difficult to empty out tanks...if you are only there a few days it's probably not a problem but we were booked in for 2 weeks...I could not tow our portable dump tank as the wheels would have melted .lol..so had to lift the tank into the back of our SUV...other than that though the campsite is lovely...there are many walks...bike paths..the river is great for exploring...if you go upstream you can make it to Trapper Nelson's reserve...we did that in our small motorized dinghy...was very interesting and the river journey was great...just feels like you are in the jungle...if you go downstream it will take you out to the ocean past the large mansions...
Although the dump is an issue for us I would still recommend this campsite...it is one of our favorites for Florida...to clarify there are 2 camping areas...one is the riverside which as I mentioned is a 4 miles drive into it...the other is located near to the main entrance near to the A1. There is a train track nearby but we really didn't hear any...
Read moreVery large state park. Planned our daily outings in the area allowing for ample travel times only to find out the cabins are 12 to 15 minutes to get to from the guard shake.
Three stars because the cabins were dirty. I mopped the floors before we unpacked, black all over the cleaning cloths. Kitchen items were dirty, like put back into the cupboards dirty.
Guests are required to strip all the beds and gather all the towels, as well as wash all the dishes they use before check out. While I would always wash the dishes I use during the stay, it would be nice if we didn't have to wash the breakfast dishes the day of check out, in addition to cleaning the cabin, packing, and getting out by set time.
Worth noting, if the guests are doing most of the cabin cleaning, why can the floors not be cleaned?
I would not stay at this state park again. We have visited many throughout the state and this is our...
Read moreCamping should equal freedom. That is not the case here at Jonathan Dickinson Campground. As a true Floridian and native of this particular area, I'm an experienced camper, respect the land, and do my part for the environment. I've never camped somewhere i felt so uncomfortable. Men were walking around in their skivvies as children were riding their bikes. Nothing was done about it. Yet, we were constantly policed. So many ridiculous rules. Never have we been under such a microscope while camping. Prepare for a bazillion rules, most of which are illogical. Though the hosts were nice and on top of maintenance, they're very involved and eagle-eyed. The sites are tiny, so don't expect any privacy whatsoever. I give our experience at the money-sucking concrete jungle that is JD...
