We stayed at the lodge August 4-8, 2012 while we were visiting friends in Kake. We wished we had reversed our itinerary and stayed longer in Kake instead of Sitka where we just just stayed 6 nights at a Super 8 located at a noisy intersection. The lodge was just about everything we hoped it would be. We loved the quiet, cozy room with a lovely view of the water. I enjoyed sitting in the armchair each morning drinking coffee and looking out our windows to watch the bald eagles and other birds down at the water and in the pine trees, as well as the occasional water vessels passing by. So peaceful and restful. I was happy that a lodge in such a small village had almost all the amenities you'd find at a hotel chain such as Super 8/Days Inn, etc. (coffee maker, microwave, mini-fridge with a small freezer area, washer/dryer available on the premises for $3.50 a load, but there appeared to be free detergent on the table, free Wi-Fi, a great shower, satellite TV, and an adorable, welcoming dining room area with a free continental breakfast, as well as a dinner menu for purchase). Tinker Williams, the manager was friendly and helpful. She picked us up off the ferry and then took us into town for the Dog Salmon Festival (we arrived on the day of that event), and she even stopped on the bridge over Gunnuk Creek so we could take some photos of the black bears eating salmon there. Oh, by the way, you can get a ride to the store from Tinker during the day so you can buy groceries to prepare/eat in your room if you want (and you will want to as there won't be any other options for getting food after the dinner-ordering time at the lunch ends at 6:30 p.m.) Also, although sometimes there aren't any lodge employees available on the grounds, there is a cell phone to reach Tinker at just about any time. ||||Although they're really not all that big of a deal, there's only two things that keep me from giving it a 5-Excellent rating: 1) there was no transportation to our departing ferry which arrived around 3:30 a.m., at least no complimentary transportation like during regular business hours. There is a night driver but she would've charged us $30.00 for about a 2 minute ride. Though some friends offered to take us at that wee hour of the morning, we decided to just hoof it to the ferry terminal as it's less than a 10-minute walk from the lodge...I was a little nervous about running into a moose or bear that time of day/night, though. If you have a lot of luggage, this option might not work for you (we just had small items and carry-on roller cases); and 2) We were just a tad disappointed in the breakfast as the lodge's website says "breakfast buffet" when it's really just a continental breakfast of bagels, muffins, oatmeal, cereal and coffee/tea/hot chocolate. However, I understand as everything at the local and only store in town (SOS) is super expensive, as are most stores in Alaska. Overall, I highly recommend staying at Keex'...

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the lodge! It is a beautiful lodge that looks practically new - inside and out! I am surprised to see reviews going back so many years! ||My room was spotless and well appointed. It included a double bed, arm chair, table for 2, microwave, oven, stove, frig, cooking pans and utensils, coffee maker, and sink. It also had a private bathroom, TV, and internet. ||The furniture looked brand new, the room was spotless, and I could not ask for more! ||I was on the 2nd floor so I had a great view of the water and nearby islands. ||I highly recommend this lodge if you visit the area. It exceeded my expectations in all areas! ||(Some earlier reviews insinuate there is a restaurant onsite - there is not. There is a local grocery store within walking distance - maybe .5 mile. Tinker, the manager, is so accommodating, I think she would take you to the store...

Was booked into the lodge, but then found out about the "Superintendents" house which is located below the lodge on the boardwalk to the old cannery. The house has three bedrooms, is full of rustic charm and is also on the National Registry. It is in the process of some needed repair, but you soon forget that after you've spent an evening on the porch watching the sunsets, eagles and marvel in the scenery. Because it's off the beaten path, it's also very quiet and I had several great nights of sound and peaceful sleep. I was there for a week and I would highly recommend this as an alternative if the lodge is booked, which...
