First of all, I would definitely recommend this place to someone looking for a comfortable, different, and local experience to Sleeping Bear Dunes area. ||||My boyfriend and I are both teachers in Northern Indiana, looking for a relaxing fall break. Originally we were planning to camp, but as the date approached, the weather got worse and worse. We emailed the night before, frantically looking for a place to stay. Susan answered within the hour that she would call the following day. I was drawn to staying at Sleeping Bear Dunes because Van and Susan seemed like really interesting people, and appreciated art as much as I do! We ended up arriving later than planned due to car troubles- but Van and Susan were very understanding and greeted us with a smile anyway! ||||The space is very warm, eclectic, and inviting. They have a beautiful art collection, featuring some of Northern Michigan's most renowned artists. We stayed in the Gilbert Room, named after the original farmhouse. It has a bed, daybed, DVD and TV, lights, plenty of hooks, and again- beautiful artwork. Each room has a different aesthetic, which has been carefully curated. We used a shared bathroom space, with plenty of towels, hair dryer, and complimentary soaps and shampoo. ||||We had delicious breakfasts! We are both still talking about the herb cheese and roasted pepper omelet we had on day two! Susan is a wonderful cook, who obviously puts her heart into each delicious dish she creates. During breakfast we would have interested conversations, but Van and Susan were very flexible to our plans as well- in other words, the conversation was good but they knew we wanted to go explore Michigan! They gave wonderful recommendations to area cider and beer breweries, restaurants, and local attractions. ||||Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Sleeping Bear Dunes Bed and Breakfast. They were very welcoming hosts, had delicious meals, and offered a different, more comfortable, experience for our first...
Read moreOne of the best B&B’s I’ve been to, and Libby (owner) was an absolute pleasure to make our stay perfect. This was so much better than just a room at a hotel anywhere else!
The breakfast was legendary, and truly gourmet! We had avocado toast with eggs that she added a bit of cooked broccoli (never tried eggs with it before but trust me it’s amazing!) and turkey bacon. We even got to add some of Libby’s home-made violet syrup to our drinks which was an absolutely unique and tasty experience (can’t say she’ll have that for your stay but it shows the level of care she takes with her guests).
The Sleeping Bear room is private with its own bathroom and you can use the kitchen just outside which is a huge plus! There’s also a small dvd collection if you want to watch a movie with the room’s TV and player.
Immediately outside a small walk-way to the fire-pit and the houses pet rabbit. It lit at night and looks magical. It rained our night but it something that we would have done, everything’s set up.
There’s a barn with a TV (w/ dvd player) and some puzzles and a few board games if you find yourself rained in on a night! We made a puzzle! Really cosy!
Definitely reserve one of the rooms here over a hotel, will be much more romantic and so much...
Read moreMy husband and I have stayed with Susan and Van Wilson at the Sleeping Bear Bed & Breakfast eight times, 3 of them with our young son. Susan and Van are awesome people. Susan is a chef who provides gourmet breakfasts and leaves treats for guests to sample later in the day. While you eat your breakfast you can enjoy the view of birds visiting very popular feeders, with hummingbirds coming right up to the window, so close you could reach out and touch them! Van is an artist who works tirelessly to improve their already beautiful property. Every time we visit there are new features to enjoy, such as an outdoor eating area, flower, herb, and produce gardens, and campfire circle. The inn itself is located on the corner of M-72 and Gilbert, easy to find, but out in the country for peace and quiet. It's a perfect home base from which to visit Traverse City and the Leelanau Peninsula. On our most recent visit there, the Wilsons accommodated our small extended family for a 5-day vacay! This...
