This is a great place for an outing. I've been going here since I was a small child. This is a large park: it completely surrounds the lake and is over 350 acres. I can only list what's there, and have you make up your own mind. To start with there are two sides to the park: the near, West, side, which is closest to town and the far, East, side, which has the camping area.||||To start with, there’s an asphalt/dirt walkway and nature trail that goes completely around the park. The whole walk is about three miles. Starting at the boat dock, go South down the road to a second part of the park, through the woods, around into the camping area and down the camping area road, walk around the end of the lake, go by the swimming area, down the lake shore, and back to the boat dock. Take a short stroll or a long hike. Whatever you like.||||The near side has a swimming area, complete with changing/bathrooms, and float for diving. There are several picnic areas along the lake shore, starting on the South side with a small secluded area near a stream that runs into the lake, to a larger area near the dock and boat launching area, to the third, fourth, and fifth areas strewn along the lake shore under the trees. There is a dock to fish off of and a ramp to launch boats from: fishing is allowed all along the shore. There's a park area with a gazebo, benches and a porch swing. Walk North down the path and the swimming area comes into view, with its changing/bathroom area and benches. Behind the swimming area and up a hill is more park with tennis courts, a play area, and more picnic areas. Keep going down the road, look to the left and get a good view of the Public Library – it used to be the local hospital, but that was moved and the library built in its place. Keep going down the road and there’s another picnic are on the left with another play area. Keep going.||||This is the North end of the lake near the railroad tracks. On the right is a look out area, with more picnic tables and a natural portion of the lake set aside for wild birds such as geese, ducks, and swans; look closely and you’ll see a few white domestic geese that have gone wild. The North end and part of the East side is kept in its natural state for wildlife. It’s very pretty, but swampy.||||On the far side of the lake, the East side, is the campground. There is a wooded area for RV’s and tents. There’s a parking lot, a large park area with picnic tables and trees, and a sandy shore with a beach for swimming. There’s a baseball diamond, tennis courts, horseshoes, play areas. There are both water and electrical hook-ups. Non-campers can come and swim and have fun as well as the campers. There’s also a wooden lookout built over the swampy area near the head of the nature trail so birds and wildlife can be observed.||||On the South side of the lake is another park area with trees, pavilions, and the head of the nature walk. This is the part of the lake that’s been silted in, so the lake cannot actually be seen from here. Most of the South side has been set aside as a nature preserve and bird sanctuary, so the nature trail is a wildlife area. It’s a very nice, quiet area for a picnic or to observe the flowers and plants.||||The park has several special events during the year. The Fourth of July Fireworks are wonderful seen over the lake and there’s a Christmas drive that practically the whole town...
Read moreWe stayed 3 nights first off the campsites are labeled wrong at least at the site we were at and they had us repack up and move 3 times the 3rd time we went and had them show us where they wanted us. The second night there was people who took the spot right infront of us they were like a less then a foot infront of us with 5 tents packed in one area and one tent they put right behind where we were sitting. The third night they wanted to complain about our dogs barking when we put up a tarp on the second night to block the dogs views and there kids were constantly teasing the dogs peeking around the tarp and there kids were throwing a baseball right beside our cars and we asked multiple times for them to go play in the empty field or baseball area parents would not make them listen then there kids were left unsupervised at 11pm while parents went to bed so they were being loud during quiet hours. We use to go to this campground when the older guy ran it and had 0 issues with him so we will...
