This was my TENTH trip here, and each time I go, I don't want to leave. This is where adults can become kids and do all of the fun activities you miss from your childhood - kickball, lake swimming, Color War, archery, volleyball, boating, campfires, arts and crafts, and so much more to do!
Need to feed your outer adult? Throw in treetop zip-lining, water skiing, an aerial adventure course, sky-cycling ABOVE the trees, water skiing, mixology classes, pickleball, a "pub hike" through the woods, lakeside happy hours, Boozy Bingo, Costume Parties, and hundreds of fellow adults looking to unplug and relax from the strains of adulthood, even if for just 48 hours.
Club Getaway GENUINELY excels and shines thanks to the most amazing, caring, kind-hearted, and engaged staff. They are here to help you try new things, keep everything safe, and ensure all of your needs are exceeded. There is an amazing crew of social leaders (shoutouts to Hunter, Bluto, and Weekend Ken!) who help organize the activities and "Weekend "Counselors", and motivate you to get out there and try as many new experiences as you can.
Food at Club Getaway is way better than you think it is going to be. Upon arrival on Fridays, there is a welcome Happy Hour with finger foods and light bites, followed by family style dinner with salad and rolls, two proteins, starch and vegetables, and dessert. Breakfast in the morning is a buffet with omelettes/pancakes/waffles made to order, scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, home fries, oatmeal, pastries, fresh fruit, juices, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Lunch is an EVEN BIGGER buffet with literally 50 different food options (including chocolate bread, and yes, you need to eat it - picture a loaf of bread stuffed with warm cake frosting). Saturdays also include a lakeside Happy Hour with a BBQ, and Sundays also include a sundae bar between breakfast and lunch, just because. I should also point out that each formal meal includes a large screen listing the food items with allergen information - CG takes food seriously and there is always something for everyone to eat no matter one's dietary needs/restrictions.
Each weekend also includes photography! Leave your phones in the cabin and let the camp's amazing photographer capture your best (and most embarrassing) moments - within a week of returning to real life, you get access to the hundreds of photos that were taken.
Each trip is choose-your-own-adventure style where you are presented an activities list each morning and decide what you want to do (there are only a few activities that are compulsory: the welcome happy hour, the lakeside happy hour (with the lake open), the after-dinner parties, and meal times). My most recent weekend consisted of the following activities:
FRIDAY: Welcome and unpack Happy Hour (w/ games, mixers, and light bites) Dinner family style Karaoke/Dance party Courtyard socializing with mini campfire
SATURDAY Breakfast Treetop Zipline Archery Pickleball Volleyball Sky Cycle Aerial Park Lunch Color War Water Balloon Contest Pub Hike Softball Lake Swim Lakeside Happy Hour w/ BBQ Shower/Rest Time Costume Party Dinner with Live Band/Dancing DJ Party with Dancing Campfire with S'mores and AMAZING sing-along guitar music
SUNDAY Breakfast Pickleball Boozy Bingo Kayaking Lake Swim Lunch Pack up and Goodbyes
At lunch on Sunday the staff gives out superlatives (Bingo champion, musical chairs champion, best paint-and-sipper, craziest dancer, best pub hike joke, most drunk, etc.) My friend who came with me won the CAMP SPIRIT award and was given a special trophy.
These words cannot properly do justice to the amount of fun I have every single time I come to Club Getaway. This is a magical place - if you've read this far, your next step is to call and book a weekend there. Club Getaway is perfect for groups of friends, bachelor/bachelorette parties (there were four this past weekend), couples, and solo campers too - everyone is welcome and everyone is made to feel special, no matter how many people are (or...
Read moreOverall, the weekend was amazing. I’m going to break it down into sections to really go into detail
Check In Really easy and simple. The shuttle to the grounds was perfect. The people that checked us in were efficient and quick.
Lodging Literally perfection. The beds were so comfortable. I mean, I wanted to be horizontal in the bed whenever we had a break in our plans. The bathroom was big! The shower was on the smaller size so plus size folks might experience it being very tight. The water was SOOOO hot. I was worried that with 4 people taking a shower that the hot water would ‘run’ out but it stayed hot. Sometimes even scolding. The location of our cabin was perfect (Lakeview). It was right near all the buildings, so it was easy.
Food&Drinks All the meals were reallllly good. They have plenty of options for everyone. A solid three course meal so we never felt hungry. However, we are big snackers so we wished we have some cheezits or goldfish. Ya know, the elite of snacks. Drinks were good but we were kind of limited in what we wanted - I asked for a mojito and miss girl looked at me like I have 5 heads LOL. Also, lets get some ‘spressy martinis!!!! Those would have set it all the way off! Also, the BEEEEEES we out of control. I am unsure how to rectify this but it was pretty insane. Maybe offer indoor seating for lunch as well as breakfast. We wished the bar opened up earlier for mimosas/bloody marys! Even if not a full bar, maybe just for those drinks. Also, why was the main bar all the way down near the lake??? Literally in Guam. We wished there was an up the hill location incase we weren’t frequenting the lake at whatever moment. The unlimited it worth it if you’re going to drink every second of the day. If you are not a big drinker, I would not recommend!
Activities Okay - really good options for people of various comfortability levels. The one gripe I had was that I feel like we missed some that we wanted to do because we were a little confused how the schedule was written. Some activities overlapped in time block so while we may have did one thing that overlapped, we may have missed another that was only offered 1 time the whole weekend. So we were bummed but I guess we just have to come back!!! Also, being notified of any activities that were canceled would be great. A simple email would have sufficed in order to let us know. For example, we went to archery but we called and found out that no one was scheduled for it but it was still on our schedule. Also, the crazy Olympics being after lunch was not appeasing to me bc I was pretty full so I didn’t want to work up my hangover that was already making me fight for my life. Speaking of hangover, rave bingo and karaoke on the same night?! An extreme sport. I wish it was broken up but I understand why. Rave bingo was a fan fave!!! I was shook at how wild it was. It was my favorite. Also, can we have a rest hour?! A girl needed a nap!!!! Oh! For tie-die, I wished it had club getaway on the front!! It would have made it top notch.
People Overall, most people were really kind, nice, and fun!! We really enjoyed mixing and mingling with people. However, there was a group of women who really threw us off at the last dinner. They were very rude to the staff members, poking them with the sticks, and saying things like “work for it” meaning they should be dancing to earn their money. It was very rude to us. We know the staff works so hard to make sure we had the best experience. It didn’t make our experience any less but we did feel badly about the staff because they clearly looks uncomfortable. On a lighter note, I want to shoutout Bluto for being the best. He was hilarious and his energy is unmatched. Special shout-out to Hunter for being so kind. He helped us with before and during reserving our spots!
Wildlife We had a skunk on our porch!!! It was cute but just so y’all know! Hahahaha.
My friend and I really enjoyed our time. It was incredible and not your basic “drinks and dinners”...
Read moreI visited Club Getaway during their Fall Finale, this past weekend and I had a blast. I was part of a group celebrating a birthday party and they were excellent at accomodating us.
Check in took a while because the parking lot is a little bit of a walk from the main buildings. So if you drive up, you'll have to disembark from your car and then wait for their shuttles, which I was fine with. To my [pleasant] surprise they were also requiring negative Covid Antigen Tests. My only gripe here was the fact that the check in table was inside of a main lodge while happy hour was happening and it wasn't apparently clear where to go after getting off of the shuttle. I know they did that because of the sheer volume of people that were checking in at the same time but maybe they could've transitioned to the information booth after a period of time?
The rooms were basic cabins consistent with what I was expecting on camp grounds and they were clean. They provided towels but no basic toiletries (e.g. shampoo, conditioner & soap/body wash) so bringing your own was a prerequisite. Beware of the heating and A/C elements during the Fall. They're pretty powerful. Light adjusements were best.
As far as food, I was pretty satisfied. Actually, I probably ate too much. Their lunch buffet was the best! Make sure to have the jalapeno and white chocolate breads. Breakfast was a full spread too. Dinner offered multiple protein options nightly. My only "ding" on the food came here as the salmon I tried had a questionable texture/temperature (as far as I know, no one got sick).
As far as activities, they were STELLAR, which is no surprise. You can go absolutely ham or take it easy. Some improvements can be made in some of the equipment though (e.g. The feathers were missing on some of the arrows during archery leading to errant flight). For their Halloween Themed night, the crew went over the top with an incredible Haunted trail culminating in a fantastic DJ'd party in their boathouse!
The initial Halloween night operation could be tweaked though. We had an anticlimactic live music performance in the Main lodge that went on for a while. The shuttling to the Haunted trail should have began a little earlier during that performance and I would suggest two shuttles to move things along a little bit. There was a LOT of milling and waiting that tired some people out.
Otherwise, the Halloween party was epic. Music was great but some of the more mixed cultural music didn't get played until half of the crowd had already left for the night. My suggestion here is to play the same Pop/Top 40/EDM in the begining. Then mix in the Reggaeton/AfroBeats/Hip-Hop/Musica Urbana midset. Finally finish with slower Pop/Top 40/Old School Hip-Hop etc.
Bottom line overall: If you have the chance, you should definitely go! The staff is super friendly and very accomodating. You'll definitely have a Great time!
Special Mentions:
Maggie: Appalachian Trail Hike Leader - She was very pleasant and good at explaining things along the way. James: Cocktail Mixology Instructor - Very knowledgable and well spoken on the subject. He was an absolute gentleman! Lisa: Tailgate Staff - The sweetest person and super athletic. Gary: Groups/Event Coordinator - Excellent work accomodating our group of 18 people. There was also a Hispanic/Latina young lady with Black curly hair who assisted me with check in, at the bar buring the day by the boathouse and room checkout on the last day. I feel terrible for forgetting her name but she was ALWAYS smiling and always...
