No idea why the other 2 reviews have 1 star and no explanation. Stayed here with my wife and 3 kids, (12, 8, and 18 months) for a long weekend upon recommendation from a family that has been going for 20 years. One couldn't ask for more bang for your buck. Small enough to let the kids run wild and not be worried, but big enough for the kids to run wild and let every one spread out and enjoy themselves. Ample river front and beautiful surroundings, canoes, tubes, water slide, tennis, basketball, ping-pong, video arcade, lodge area with TVs and games, playgrounds, large green lawns, picnic tables, grills, lounge chairs... could go on and on. There was a mix of young and old, owners and renters, and just pleasant hospitality all around. I really took it personal to see that there were 2-1 star ratings because my family had such a great time here. Perhaps someone was looking for what consultants at the major hotel chains say the Hill Country should look and feel like and was turned off by the charm and lack of pretentiousness at the River Inn, but I would stay here for the $100 a night they charge than at one of the major hotel chains Hill Country resorts for free. I was hesitant to even write a review because this is such a diamond in the rough that I want to keep it...
Read moreLook there are some bad reviews on here and I get it, this place isn’t some 5 star hotel where you have a wait staff and room service for every need but you know what this place is? It’s every child’s favorite place to find new ways to ride down the tube chute. It’s every kids dream of having a safe place to run and play at night with the new friends they met staying a few room overs. It’s a place where you can take your kids on a small canoe trip to a tiny what we call fish racing island to explore and go on adventures. It’s friendly faces at the check in and helpful hands when you are trying to unload suitcases and river things. You may not get the nicest bed or best WiFi but as a child coming here since I was born who now takes my 3 kids EVERY summer this place is another home. I promise you, that when you leave here your kids will be happy, exhausted and filled with memories for the rest of their life. I love river inn. I was well traveled as a child and this is still one of my favorites places to come every year. To the people working outside, inside, and wherever, thank you for always being helpful, happy, and keeping this place the same since I was a little girl. The brooks family, and now my ware family can’t be more proud and excited...
Read moreWe bought a Groupon and went for a family weekend. My son (8) daughter (5) husband and I had a blast. We canoed, read in the quaint little "boat house" for lack of other word for it. The kids were kids and able to handle the water and loved the waterslide, but agreed that we wanted to come back in the summer. The room was welcoming. The grounds keepers and office staff were very friendly and helpful. Just some tips we learned. The closest store is 20 minutes away and expensive so make sure you have everything you need (charcoal if bbqing on one of their pits). They provide the firewood for the wonderful fires at night. The game room has 3 arcade games, a pool table and a air hockey table, all cost $1.00 each. But there is a free ping pong table. Bring your own board games to play in the game room, but they do have puzzles and a TV with DVD player if you wanna bring a DVD. There is tennis courts with a basketball hoop on it. The room does have a microwave and a coffee maker. The swimming "pool" does not have a shallow end, but the other side of the damn where the waterslide ends is shallow. Can't wait to go back and make...
