My husband and I made reservations to stay at Dove Creek Resort and Marina from November 23 and leave on November 27. We looked at the photos online and decided that would be a lovely room to stay in. We picked the Full Kitchen, which turned out to be room 309. When we checked in, I was led to the room. I was told that the door had just been painted and the room no. was not on the door yet. As soon as the door was opened, I could smell a strong musty/mildew odor. I figured it is Florida, so that might be par for the course. We brought up out luggage and relaxed. The patio was lovely, except you could not see the water. The trees were so overgrown and needed trimming. We were told it was just painted and we notice paint was splattered on the curtain, lampshade and floor. I believe that paint was poured down the sink. It looked like paint on the drain. Now the room looked nothing like the photos on the website. The bed was foam or something, not a normal bed and very hot. The headboard was a painted piece of wood and the frame was a painted piece of wood that was hand made. Nothing like the pictures. The door leading out to the patio had 2 wooded dowels to keep the doors closed, as the lock did not work. The lock apparently broke and they never fixed. Above the bed it appeared that the ceiling had fallen before because some of the wood was bowed. When I took a shower later that evening, I noticed they had dispensers for Body Wash, Conditioner and Shampoo, but there were no labels on them so I had no idea which was which. The shower wall had mildew on the grout and needed to be cleaned. The bathroom door had been oiled at the hinge on the inside and the grease was still on the door and had not been cleaned. I did notice some dirt/grease on the Bboard after you entered the room. There was a Panasonic radio or something but it did not have a power cord so it was useless. We explored the drawers in the kitchen and the one next to the stove smelled of sour dish rags. We looked around and finally found the fire extinguisher under the kitchen sink in the far back. Shouldn’t it be close in case it was needed? Was this room supposed to have and extra room because there was so much furniture that seemed out of place. After we got home, I started to compare pictures of the room and pictures of our room. For some reason they cut a hole to make a new door above the pool. It was where a window had been. When I checked in no one told me that we would have to call for room service because of Covid-19. I found that out on Wednesday. We tried Wednesday morning to call the desk and could not get the phone to work and if it did there were not instructions how to call the desk or how to make a call out. The gentleman at the office brought us soap and clean towels. Thursday, someone came to take out the trash and dirty towels. Since we had done without our room being cleaned, we could do without another day. We did notice that some of the railings by the steps were broken and a safety hazard. Dove Creek Resort and Marina could be an awesome Resort but is in need of repairs and tree trimming. The staff were awesome and very helpful. Unless some repairs and cleaning are done we will not be staying there again. After we arrived home I looked at reviews again and found that the room we had stayed in had the ceiling cave in on the bed with water from all the rain. Maybe that is where the mold/mildew...

I have been visiting Dove Creek for over 10 years and never once did I think I would ever be able to write a review listing anything other than perfection ! Once we arrived we checked into the "Key Lime" suite. Once inside we began to realize that the Hotel had sadly fallen way below its normal standard. We had a large screened in porch that over looks the Atlantic however the handle on sliding glass door was literally hanging off, as well as issues on screen door. Our "view" of the Atlantic was completely obstructed by trees that haven't been trimmed. These should have been signs of things to come however we were so happy to be back in the Keys we simply let it go. The next morning we were due to go offshore however weather was not our friend and we opted to take a daytrip to Key West instead. Upon our return to our room later that afternoon we noticed that part of the roof in our room had caved in directly over the bed. Chunks of the ceiling were laying on the bed and the bed was soaked completely through the mattress. We proceeded to call the front desk who responded quickly and moved us to another room. The room they moved us to was nothing close to what we booked however we also understand the concept of availability !

The following night were had decided to go to bed early as we planned on being on the water at 6am. Once we laid down the kids came running into the bedroom screaming as both the roof and door were now leaking in this room too. There was water pouring in through both the front door as well as the sliding glass door, Not to mention water coming through the ceiling and through outlets on the wall.

At that point I made my way to the front office justifiably upset only to find that there were no Hotel employees anywhere on property. I called a number that was listed on the door several times whilst standing in the pouring rain, When I was finally greeted by a contractor that was there "working" on one of the rooms. At first thinking that he was a Hotel employee I explained my situation. He then told me that he understood as the Hotel never wants to fix things correctly, But rather just "patch" issues as cheaply as possible.

Some time later I finally received a call later from the "Manager" who was less than helpful and when I voiced my extreme frustration was told that he didn't like my tone and suggested that we "Simply check out" as he was not prepared to drive back to the hotel.

The following day I met with both Him and the Owner who just walked off mid conversation after zero resolution. The "manager" again refused to understand my frustrations and made it all about him and the fact that I hurt his feelings in the way that I spoke to him.

We ended up checking out a day early as that afternoon a room once again started to leak and we had simply had enough !

We were offered a "partial" refund however quite frankly we should have been paid to stay there!

In short we miss the way Dove Creek used to be and wouldn't stay there again if our vehicle broke down out front and they offered us...

I usually do not feel compelled to write reviews, but this was a uniquely terrible experience. I cannot, in good faith, recommend that anybody stay here. We stayed for a night, and it is one of the most disastrous hotels I have ever visited.

Images of this hotel are wildly misleading and not at all what you receive. Furniture and TV (of which there are almost no channels) are obscenely outdated by what feels like decades. The rooms are dirty and tired; almost all of the floor and wall trim were chipped and lacked any sort of polish or upkeep. The walls themselves had marks and dirty stains that had not been bothered to be cleaned off. One person complained of bugs. Rust and dirt mar every bit of this hotel, and it is sad.

The pool area is small. There are no towels. The pool itself is almost constantly warm because of the hot sun. Because of the nearby marina, equally as run down, and the boiling sun, the pool smells heavily of fish; one person in our party said they could smell it from our room's deck. Everyone who went down there ended up having to take showers in case the smell stuck. Believe me, it is potent. The marina itself is not pleasant on the eyes and is an awkward, sore thumb compared to other views of Key Largo's waters. Snappers is hosted there, but do not anticipate going anywhere else within the general vicinity. You will have to drive out back onto the main road to find anything else to do or eat; the hotel lacks any other amenities or options.

It is terrible. The entire property is very clearly unmaintained and unloved. The disappointment between all of us was thick and uncomfortable having spent well over $300 for just one night just to be misled by what was shown online. I can only wish more reviews were honest about what this place is. It was a terrible first night to a highly anticipated trip and left everyone feeling bad. More time was spent trying to think of the positives of what we would do when we left the following morning to distract ourselves from the financial loss of booking even just a single night than actually enjoying a stay at Dove Creek.

This is an embarrassment. Family booked this hotel simply because the Wyndam name was attached and they had seen the grandiose resorts in Central FL only to be greeted with this sham of a resort; if you want to attach your company name to something, perhaps take the presentation of it into account, if only for your reputation. This place is scummy, and it took no more than a half hour for us to become saddened at it all. Please hold onto your money and find anywhere else in Key Largo-- an inconvenient location is many leagues better than one that feels like a deteriorating tourist trap...

Disappointing to say the least. This was our second visit to this property that is formally known as "Dove Creek Lodge". During our first visit we found that the place was clean, cute and a great hidden gem that was quiet and secluded. For this stay it was very different. The staff was friendly like in the past and the complimentary breakfast complete with do-it-yourself waffle station is a nice offering. The beds are comfortable and the linens are clean. The rooms do have a refrigerator which is nice to be able to bring your own snacks. However beyond that this place needs some work. Its clear that the property was affected by the recent hurricanes. To us it seemed that this new ownership made repairs that would bring the property up to "operating standard" and they stopped at that. There were several things wrong with our room. The curtains were not only old and dingy but broken. There is no way to let natural light in the front room without the whole world seeing into your space, there needs to be your standard "double curtain" option with a sheer layer and then the black out. In general the furniture is old and worn and fixtures are chipped and old as well. There was an attempt to update with a fresh coat of paint but large spaces were missing. Patch repairs where abundant and not done well at all. The bathrooms are small but fine for just 2 people. If a family is staying in this room I'm not sure how well that would work out. The bathroom also had mildew stains and the handrail needed repair as well. MB Resort uses toiletry dispensers which is eco friendly but ours were not full and we ran out (we did not have maid service come during our stay but these things should be full upon check in). The view from the bedroom window. I understand that the whole focus of the rooms is the FRONT porch overlooking the resort and the water, HOWEVER, what is behind the hotel should not look like it does. There are still dumpsters filled with debris and random garbage strew about. Lastly, the overall feel of this place is different. There were many families who were LOUD. In our previous visit it felt like more of an "adult" atmosphere but this time that was not the case, I'm sure its because its during spring break and more children were able to travel because of school being out. And yes, I understand that ANYONE is allowed to stay in a hotel, including children, I"m just making the point that during our previous visit the vibe seemed more relaxing. Overall I dont think we will stay here again unless the hotel is completely renovated.

Dove Creek Lodge feels like a UFO, something out of place, just waiting for the right person to bring it back down to Earth. It has everything it needs to be a great destination, yet nothing really works as it should. Let’s start with the positives. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable, and offer fairly nice views. They are well designed to keep noise away from the bed. I slept very well. My best night. That's the most important thing in a hotel. The place is peaceful and quiet, which is a real luxury. The setting is charming, even if there’s a strong smell of algae. Nothing has been cleaned up along the shore, so it piles up and the odor becomes quite strong but that’s nature, and it can be overlooked. Unfortunately, the real problem lies in the service. You arrive in a small room with a basic desk and visible clutter in the background. The receptionist, a young man chewing gum the entire time, didn’t seem to know what he was doing. It’s not a reassuring start. The front desk operates during limited hours, and breakfast is another low point. A woman wanders around the room but doesn’t seem to grasp that cereal requires bowls. The service is, quite frankly, catastrophic. Breakfast itself is extremely basic though it technically does the job. It’s served in a warm, non-air-conditioned room with just two sad little tables. Why not set up a few tables outside to enjoy the fresh air and lovely surroundings? It’s such a shame, because the potential is clearly there. I had a restful night in a quiet environment, and that makes it all the more disappointing that the rest doesn’t follow through. What this place truly needs is a competent owner with vision and ideas. Maybe there is one who tries to develop this hotel.. I hope so. Dove Creek Lodge could be a gem. But with service like this, it doesn’t live up to its three-star rating. I talked with the manager and all thoses issues are known. They are creating a new restaurant on the top floor. So I think this hotel will glow up in 1 or 2 years. Give it a chance then.

Very disappointing to say the least as we were checked into a storage room that should have been OOO. Only because I booked through Wyndham Rewards did I receive my points back. The manager has dodged me and offered NO assistance at all after we left and ended up spending $1100 at another property last minute as it was a holiday weekend. To my knowledge, we as the guests should have been "walked" to another hotel with availability and paid for by them. I know this because my property is extremely careful and way more put together. "Walking" a guest is not something anyone wants to do but they failed miserably as nobody was even at the property to greet us. Our keys were left in a box outside and a note was at the front desk telling us this. Office hours are until 7pm. We showed up at 6:30pm to nobody there and then found our keys eventually and entered our room. Pictures below are time stamped at 6:54 and 7:01 after taking 15-20 minutes to find keys. To our surprise it was full of boxes and storage and a disgusting bathroom with urine unflushed in the toilet. I tried and tried to speak with someone in the following weeks and was always dodged or was told they would call me back. They never did. It's a shame to the Wyndham name. Where was the "agent" that was supposed to stay until 7pm as the website reads? The manager or agent I did speak with was even curious as to why a note was left saying to find my keys outside in a box well before 7pm. Total let down with no compensation. Shameful in so many ways. I gave multiple opportunities for them to fix this issue. They have decided not to. Wyndham should maybe stop putting their name on everything if they don't want to take responsibility for the absolutely terrible experience. Note to Wyndham: who cares about being the biggest hotel group, try being the best. This could have been avoided had someone actually assisted my girlfriend and I. Now we're just out $1100 with a terrible taste of Wyndham in our mouth. Never again. Adam 12/22/23-12/24/23
