Let me start by saying a couple of years ago we really enjoyed the Sons Cibalo location. We were deeply disappointed with our recent stay at River Ranch, While we understand that camping can be rustic, this experience fell far below even the most basic standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service. We specifically reserved Bell Tent 1 months in advance due to its location, but upon arrival, we were placed in a completely different tent farther from the river. We were also told back in February that a cabana would be included with our booking. When we inquired at check-in, we were told we had not reserved one, and that it would cost us $200 extra, despite clear online pricing closer to $49. The site itself was in unacceptable condition. The grill was rusted, unstable, and literally falling apart when we tried to move it. The bathroom and shower facilities were filthy. There was toilet paper and human waste on the floors, standing water in the showers, and no efforts from staff to clean them in a timely manner. We ended up showering off-site at a hotel just to feel clean the second night. To make matters worse, we returned around midnight to find the lock missing from our tent. Not knowing if someone had entered while we were gone, I spent the night unable to sleep, worried my toddlers might wander out or someone come in. The next morning, staff acted unaware of the situation but returned the exact same lock to us. We later learned from another family, who also did not receive the tent they reserved, that staff had in fact been at our tent. This family believed we were on their reserved campsite. The A/C unit in our tent was not functional. After it was replaced, it was installed incorrectly, and we woke up to water pooling on the floor. We used one of our own towels to clean it up, and although staff eventually brought another towel, it took over an hour and required a follow-up call. Despite our complaints, the manager, Rachel (who declined to provide her last name), refused to acknowledge any fault or responsibility for the multiple failures we experienced. While we were offered a refund for the final night we didn’t stay, we had to push hard just to request a partial refund due to the disorganization and nasty conditions. We were looking forward to this trip as a simple, low-stress getaway with our toddlers, but it became anything but that. Having to lift our children onto bathroom sinks to avoid standing in water mixed with feces was the breaking point. We've had far better experiences at other campsites, including River Road in New Braunfels, which costs significantly less and offers much better maintained facilities. I don’t write reviews lightly, but I would not recommend this campground to anyone, especially families with young children, until serious...

Read moreTo begin the location is very hidden and road is not a great drive. I really don't mind the hidden part as it builds anticipation and exciment. I drove a long way to experience son's River Ranch for the first time. Upon driving up you kind of just need to follow signs while it is a bit confusing to find location of check in. I feel check in should be at the very entrance not in the middle of the grounds with a one way in and one way out. I pulled up to the little yellow truck and after checking in I kind of just got an odd look and told that I needed to make an awkward turn around because now I was in the way. For first timers, not many people are going to be aware of that. No biggie on that because the place is beautiful and wasn't super packed for a Saturday. Plus I got the Cabana on special, thank you for that yay👐. The water is very low not even 5 feet so it was perfect for small children of course. There are garbage cans, tables, grill and hammocks that come with cabanas. Personally my experience was good but not great or amazing, unfortunately. The tubes for rent are way to expensive in my opinion being $20-$30 per person when the Cabana was already on $99.00 special and the water is way too low so I wouldn't be able to enjoy the "tubing experience" at it's best. I did appreciate the small life jackets they had for kids ages 2years old, it fit perfect and did it's job turning my child upright if she fell over LoL my child loved it. There are lots of signs for snakes which I had to be on the lookout for with our large group of small children is definitely a con to the location. With the very murky water it is hard to see a bit so just be careful. Because I rented a Cabana it includes parking for at least 2 vehicles (pro). I guess depending on what kind of experience you are looking for it may or may not be a fit for the family. For a good adult time I would not choose this location. For my little ones and being able to supervise, yes. To be honest it was a mediocre experience for the price of what your getting. While it was mediocre I will say it was clean but very muddy the day I went. The mud can be dangerous in some places especially when children are using the swinging rope . Instead of them having port a potties, maybe in future they will have a permanent restroom. I think they could use a few upgrades before I would choose to rent a glamping tent it's just not worth it right now to me at least. Lots of pros and cons to place but to each their own. I would like to thank Son's River Ranch for the time anyway because all the little children in my group ranging 1 years old to 10 years old had fun. The water is cold y'all and it felt...
