Things can turn from beautiful to UGLY really fast! As I filmed this rough green snake we herped up, my cousin’s new dog named Copper gave Archie a quick bite to the side of his neck which queued Archie to return fire. I am not excusing Archie’s retaliation, and as you can see in the video, I correct him immediately even though he didn’t start the fight. This is fairly normal behavior for dogs as they work out a pack’s hierarchy. However, with bully breeds, owners must be extra cautious. A playful show of dominance can quickly turn into an all-out death brawl. I love the breed, I know they’re not inherently bad dogs, but they are capable of mass destruction if not properly trained. Thankfully both dogs were fine and we continued our walk with plenty of other good interactions! Some things that led to this: 1. Leash jealousy. The less experienced pup was on a leash while Archie and Maya were free to roam (since we can trust them). He wanted to get in on all the action and finally got a chance to wrestle around with Archie while we were stopped! Leash jealousy is a real thing in dogs that you can research. 2. Pack hierarchy. Copper is only 8 months old, pumped full of testosterone, and full of energy. Although not yet quite a threat to his assumed position as alpha male of the pack, Archie senses this bit of competition and wants to ensure that copper knows HE is still the big dawg around these parts. 3. Distracted owner. I literally said ā€œwhat are we doing hereā€ because I was trying to see how Archie was doing with the other dogs. Those few couple seconds of distraction while taking this video are 99.99% of the reason this accident occurred. My fault fully. 4. Rescue dogs. These are both rescue animals who have gone through some extreme trauma and have not been able to train or proper socialize with other animals during their youth. Copper was in the shelter just 4 days ago! While Archie and Copper are both naturally great dogs, their past experiences do affect them a little! #dogfight #herping #bullybreed #roughgreensnake #texasdog #texaswildlife

I was excited for 3 weeks to camp here with my family after making reservations and talking to Victoria on the phone and getting everything situated, but the staff seemed a bit confused due to changes in the company and switched everything Victoria told me and were not sure about which rules to follow. They let 15 of us camp on one campground when the rules say only 8, I repeatedly said I don't want to break any rules but Tammi said it would be fine. Then the next morning they asked us to leave and threatened to call the cops and made up stories about how bad we were acting, they were very impolite when asking us to leave, and stood and watched us pack up and continuously said negative things about us in front of us as we respectfully packed and left. If we broke any rules, then it's understandable to ask us to leave, in a polite way, but they were under the impression they could talk to us how ever they wanted because we are hispanic, as there was even another group playing music louder than us and they were not asked to leave. Park is beautiful. But the staff just wasn't very polite or informed. That's my...

Giving 5 stars only because it looked like a great place for a picnic and dock fishing or boat launch once they finish the construction. The trailhead is not open so you have to go to Oak Thicket Park a couple of miles away to pick up the trail. But the trail was not that great to me...very wide for a vehicle or 2 (though not allowed, that is just how wide and cleared it is) and not very nature-y. It is close to the road and very groomed. Not my thing. At Oak Thicket, there is a poorly maintained Rice Osborne bird trail that is awesome with no signage and seems to end at a pond...without signage and maintenance, we were not sure if that was the end but we found no continuation. But I loved that trail...very much...

The park is very nice, but it ends there! Friday night 6 rv's were in the park setup. By 9pm all the other sites were filled with people in cars and trucks with 2 vehicles per site. Some had one tent, but most sites had a blanket across the front window of there vehicles. The vehicles were stuffed full of clothes and other junk. None had any camping gear! There was 6 to 8 people at each site. This changed the whole atmosphere in the park. Changing it to a very uneasy feeling. My wife and I packed up the next morning and left early even though we still had reservations left. I waved at some of the people in these groups. Not one waved back! All they did was stare you with more...
