There is no better place for a traditional cabin getaway on Lake Superior. My family has been coming here regularly over the years. We've celebrated milestones (our wedding) or just escaped from our everyday world. Here are the five reasons you should stay here:
Location. Lakeside really means right by The Lake. Newer places may be sleek with modern amenities, but you can't match having your own sliver of lakeshore right out your door.
Location. The sound of The Lake is mysterious and soothing, and you don't have to stumble down a trail to catch the sunrise. You wake to the sound of loons and other birds. Don't forget to look at the stars before bed.
Location. So convenient for several of my favorite North Shore places: Tettegouche and the Baptism River, Caribou Falls (great swimming for kids), Crosby Manitou SP to get away from crowds, charming Finland with its friendly grocer, farmer's market, and idyllic picnic spots.
Amenities. It's a comfortable traditional cabin for a family. Cabin #5 is my favorite with two bedrooms and an indoor fireplace, well-appointed kitchen and comfy living room, with a deck for dining and water watching. So easy to make a simple meal. Sadly, no wine glasses, but I get they get broken so easily.
Management. Friendly, helpful, informative. And you don't have to sign one of those dizzying corporate contracts and do a lot of chores before you leave. Tip the amazing housekeeping staff well. They do great work.
This is the kind of place people hesitate to leave reviews about because they want to keep it to themselves. But honestly? Everyone should be so lucky to experience the feeling of having a lakeside cabin in Minnesota, even though you'd never have the energy or the financing to keep a private place. These cabins are...
Read moreMy family and I recently stayed in Cabin 6 and were thoroughly disappointed with our experience. The cabin was far from clean upon arrival. It was evident that proper cleaning had been neglected and only the bare minimum was done.
Additionally, the cabin needed several repairs. The bathroom needed renovating, lights were not working with unsafe wiring/plugins, the ceiling next to the wood stove pipe needs repairs, the oven was dirty and disgusting, the kitchen smelled gross, and the window screens had large holes which let a ton of mosquitoes inside, making it difficult to sleep and stay comfortably due to there being no AC.
To make matters worse, the management was unprofessional and exhibited poor communication from the beginning. It’s a shame that they obviously know of the condition of this cabin, but continue to offer it to the public with no effort to correct any of the issues.
The lack of cleanliness, necessary repairs, and unprofessional management made my stay in Cabin 6 extremely disappointing. I would not recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable and hassle-free vacation. Spend your money elsewhere, you won’t regret it. Don’t make the same mistake I did with this “3-Star...
Read moreNice view of Lake Superior. Elsie's cabin is located in Little Marais, MN off Hwy 61 it was the only cabin they had available at the time of our booking. There is no AC in this cabin but there is a fan. Becuase it is close to the Hwy we did not put our windows up in the bedroom becuase we could here traffic. The attached deck is nice especially at night to listen to the water from the lake and look up at the stars. We did see a black bear from our deck during our stay at the cabin. It was nice to have a kitchen to enjoy and prepare a few meals. There are two bedrooms, living and family room with flat screen TV but no wifi. Overall our stay was very nice becuase we came to hike and enjoy a fantasic view of the lake. The owners are very accomodating and we enjoyed shopping at The Eagles Nest gift shop where we found unique souvenirs and purchased 2 walking sticks. The owners were very helpful in providing maps and information regarding parks close by for hiking and their favorite restaurants. Over all we enjoyed our stay and...
