amazing views right on the lake. quite, peacful. staff are super friendly and their always working on improvements. little remote from town and small back roads to get their so use caution if your a big rig. cell service for Verizon is spotty, wifi is good at the park. wish they had cable i couldn't get many over the air channels
Update July 30th 2022 Sonya & Maurice Have lived and up to there responses since my last post. They have really put labor, love, and finances into this hidden treasure!. I noticed a lot of differant things from last year and it really shows. Starting with the pool which at night time has beautiful colored lighting. Second the transient pull thru sites have hard standing concrete patios!!!! Amazing and no need to put your ground coverings down. Rubber maid picnic tables so no more butt splinters and easy to sanitize. Owners have spent some serious money and added these PA made smokeless fire pit inserts from Breeo!!!. They are super nice and to boot they built paverstone exterior frame for the fire pit. Camp wood is top quality as well.Down by the marina they have bought all new furniture and lighting so day or night it's a great place to relax. Cableboxes are gone Ya!!!! Now the sites are cable ready no more cable boxes to rent . Bathroom are so clean and smell great. All staff are super friendly and courteous. The grounds are maintained beyond the normal maintenance of other campgrounds I have visited. For big rigs no worries they can accommodate you and getting into the park is a breeze with my 13'6 high 44ft fiver with 5 slides. In closing being here is a peaceful and emotional experience. Guests can feel the love that Sonya,Maurice, and there staff have put into it. We travel about every weekend to different rv parks along the east coast from SC to VT and this campground is number 1 on our list. Clayton Escape will be a forever on our list. Please keep up the great work and be proud of what you guys have all accomplished. Clayton Escape is definitely a Bucket List check off. We love ya guys and will see ya real soon
For the Negative comments which I have read. I cannot substantiate their claims, however I can say that I have been RVing all over the country mostly visiting high to low end parks.Clayton is not a low end park just the opposite. Deffinantely is a must stay resort.
PS Hot tub would be killer!!! Just saying lol!!!
Outdoor family movie night down by the lake Pavillion with popcorn would also be a really cool experience. This one rv resort does it and they have a projector screen with speakers popcorn machine and candy byoc. So much fun and also boosts morale for the community at a really I expensive overhead.
Another cool idea I experienced was the food truck industry has become pretty popular. You could host your own local food truck war competition and have campers get local culinary experience exclusively here at Clayton Escape!!!! Campers vote for their favorite truck and food!!!!! Ice cream truck to roll around the campground would be fun for the young and old let's face it we are all drawn to those crazy chimes you can hear a mile away!!!!!.

Read moreThis campground reminds me of an expensive resort campground, given all of the amenities they have. This place is so clean. The sites are level with large concrete pads and gravel on the side. Quality picnic tables at each site with two nice Adirondack style chairs positioned at your own personal fire pit. It is just all perfect, and it looks so new. Yet we were told this place has been in operation for 100 years, still being owned and operated by the same family, now in the third generation.
There is a boat landing, a very nice swimming pool, a super clean laundry room, and a store in case you need something you forgot.
They offer cable TV at no additional cost, and their Wifi is the best I've encountered in any campground.
There are a considerable number of seasonal campers here. All of their sites (that I saw) are well maintained.
It really is amazing how nice this place is. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They will go out of their way to assist you.
Now, a bit of some surprising finds with this place. Well, let me preface what I'm about to say. My wife and I have been traveling six months out of the year for ten years now. Plus, before we retired, we had years of experience with campground stays. So, understand we have considerable experience with campgrounds, and we were camphosts one summer in Montanna.
Here are the surprising findings: This campground is run with military efficiency. You must arrive between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. If you arrive outside this window, there is an additional charge for your early or late arrival.
If you have a dog, the dog must weigh less than 25 pounds, and you must have vaccination records to prove the dog has had its rabies shot. And, you must have a copy of your home owners policy to prove that your home owners insurance covers the dog in the event the dog bites another dog or a person.
The rules go on and on. None of them are unreasonable, but again, we have never seen anything remotely like this level of attention.
The registration process is amazing. After you have made your reservation, you will receive six emails detailing information about your stay, roads to take, a recap of the rules, etc. In our ten years of being on the road, I've never seen anything that even remotely approaches this level of corresponence. Normally, if you get anything after you make a reservation, it will be just one email. The most we have ever gotten was two. One day, we made the reservation, and the second came the day before our arrival date.
Still, all in all, this is an amazing place. Don't let all the rules, paperwork etc. scare you off from coming here. It is...
Read moreI am always reluctant to write a bad review anywhere but when we travel we count on the reviews to make our decisions where to stop. The website is beautifully done and inviting and we found not at all true to what you find when you get there. It has about 90 sites MOST of which are permanently set up with 100 pound propane tanks, porches, furniture and stuff is everywhere. This "campground" accomodates seasonal guests and lots of people living there which changes the entire character of a campground. There appear to be about 8 overnight spots for real campers which is what I guessed and was told by the maintenance man. The sites are lined up in a row, not on the water which you're led to believe could be booked according to the website BUT anyone anywhere near the water are permanent or seasonal people. Sites are narrow and have no grass or landscaping at all. You're just lined up, piled in together, closely crammed in. When you're in your camper you really need your shades down as you're surrounded on all sides by campers, and at a close distance. I have read the reviews and wonder where these people have gone camping before that could possibly think this is a good experience. WIFI was not working at all while we were there and I had to walk around the grounds to get any telephone reception (Verizen is what we have) and calls kept being dropped. If this is the case people should be aware of that before they book in case this is important as it was for us waiting for news on issues with a family member. The cable for the TV did work as did the hook ups. Very misleading information all in all on what to expect when...
